Životní styl lidí bezdomovců v Českých Budějovicích / The lifestyle of homeless people in the area of České Budějovice

KRÁLOVÁ, Inka January 2009 (has links)
The life style of the homeless in České Budějovice is varied, and these people do not take homelessness their own life style. The most common cause of homelessness is disagreement between parents, even if the majority passed their childhood within the properly functioning family. In most of cases, the men are single, without a partner. Over a half of the homeless people in České Budějovice are healthy, and they regard health important. The majority of them do not use health services and they do not pay the health insurance. Over a half do not get financial means by means of their own work, which means that they either draw employment benefits, material shortage benefits, or they go begging. As against this, the majority is looking for a job, do occasional work or are registered unemployed at the job centre. The unemployed in St. Paul{\crq}s House have their own meals and they keep to the regular drinking regime. People living outdoor eat of what they cadge or what they get from people in streets. In the category of those addicted it ensued that the dependence on cigarettes of the homeless is a more frequent phenomenon than on alcohol. Over a half of the homeless people in České Budějovice use the sanitary facility in St. Paul{\crq}s House. People living outdoor do their hygiene in the river, mostly. In their free time, over a half of the homeless go in for their jobs or seeking for a job. In the evening people attending St. Paul{\crq}s House watch TV, and people living outdoor drink alcohol and relax. Over a half of the homeless have a regular daily routine. Most of the homeless is not concerned in what is happening around. Over a half of the homeless people do not anything about being homeless, they are unsatisfied with their life situation, they perceive it to be wrong, serious, and therefore to be changed. As for the values, they consider health the most important value, while the least important one for them is their own housing. The primary idea of this Diploma Thesis is to make both lay and professional public acquainted, and help to increase awareness of the said problem.

Homelessness and Hepatitis C: risk factors and treatment

Goicoechea, Steven C. 12 July 2018 (has links)
Hepatitis C is a public health crisis in both developing and developed countries. Direct acting antiviral therapies have revolutionized the fight against Hepatitis C, making the worldwide eradication of the disease feasible. However, screening and access to care for vulnerable patients – especially for patients experiencing homelessness – are lacking. Homelessness exacerbates the effects of Hepatitis C, leading to poor health outcomes for individual patients and high costs for health providers and taxpayers. One potential solution is investing in affordable housing and the housing first model that provide the stability needed to address both acute and chronic health conditions, including Hepatitis C. Partnerships between patients and providers facilitated by supportive housing can benefit individual outcomes and decrease the financial and social costs to communities.

Antisocial behavior in students and homeless children: Influence of neighborhood and parents / Comportamiento antisocial en menores escolares e indigentes: influencia del vecindario y de los padres

Banda Castro, Ana Lilia, Frías Armenta, Martha, Frías Armenta, Martha 25 September 2017 (has links)
The aim of this work was to analyze the influence of neighbors and parents on children’s antisocial behavior. The participants were 96 homeless children and 96 students. The instruments applied were the Scale of Antisocial Behavior (Castell, Frías, Corral & Sotomayor, 2000) and the Scales of Addictive Behavior (Reich & Herjanic, 1989; Vazsonyi, Pickering, Junger & Hessing, 2001). First univariate statistics were obtained, after a model was tested using structural equations modeling. The data showed that children’s antisocial and addictive behavior was affected by father’s antisocial behavior, mother’s addictive behavior and neighborhood. For homeless children their antisocial behavior was influenced directly by their addictive behavior and father’s antisocial behavior. For students, neighborhood, father’s antisocial behavior and children’s addictive behavior influenced on children’s antisocial behavior. In both groups the neighborhood and mother’s addictive behavior influenced directly children’s addictive behavior.

Costa, Júlio Caetano January 2006 (has links)
This work concerns two themes of social sciences: movies and the homeless. The movies is the place for the birth of restlessness, a rich ground for reflection, and sometimes a path for expression. The homeless is an individual who, alone or collectively, contaminates the magic of surviving. Intending to make a fusion of both themes, the movies that deal with survival strategies from the homeless' mimetic transformations and peculiarities were analized. A documentary feature was made with the participation of homeless people on the topic of resistance strategies and surviving styles. The production also comprises scenes of other films about the issue.

Bezdomovectví jako sociální fenomén naší doby / Homelessness as a social phenomenon of our age

LANGEROVÁ, Lucie January 2007 (has links)
The homelessness phenomenon is extreme exposure of indigence and social preclusion. Much of world has been fighting with this problem for many years and our society is not exception. Also in our country the subjects exist which are becoming either volunteer or under the pressure of circumstances socially outcasted. It is livehood of individuals without home who are not able to solve their situation adequately without assistance of others. Hence they search various forms of social remedy. The term homelessness denotes summation of dealings and actions, causes and consequences which leads to loss of upcountry (home), life surenesses or more precisely to social preclusion. In my thesis I tried to zoom homelessness problems without prejudice and to find out public opinion on this. It should serve as basis for further research in this scope and increase the degree of awareness about the homelessness problems.

Organizing Compassionate Communication: Pragmatic Fieldwork with Nonprofits and Homeless Young Adults

January 2013 (has links)
abstract: In an effort to understand and improve interactions between homeless young adults and the nonprofit organizations that serve them, I engaged in a long-term, qualitative, participatory action project. My project involved input from homeless young adults, nonprofit organizations, volunteers/staff, and communication scholarship. While taking a community-engaged, participatory, and qualitative approach, I focused on the interactions between youth and the organizations. Particularly, I drew on homeless young adult experiences to inform services and illuminate compassion within the context of the nonprofit organizations. In the end, this project extends the individual model of compassion to include presence, identifies potential ruptures in the process of compassion, and models compassionate dynamics in organizations. It also articulates a method I call pragmatic fieldwork, a qualitative and pragmatic approach to participatory action research. Each of these outcomes speaks to varied community interests, from theoretically nuancing scholarly models of compassion to informing policy in the interest of more effectively and compassionately serving homeless youth. / Dissertation/Thesis / Ph.D. Communication 2013

The Male Victim: Sex Trading and Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Males

January 2014 (has links)
abstract: Male victims of commercial sexual exploitation and sex trafficking have been neglected in research literature, and little is known about the experiences of male victims of sex trafficking and sex trading. This research study aims to explore the experiences of male sex trafficking and sex trading in a large urban southwestern city to identify incidences, available resources, and needed services for male sex traders. Research was conducted at a drop-in center for homeless youth ages 18-24 in a large urban city in the southwest. A total of 13 males between the ages of 18 and 24 were interviewed. The results of this study revealed that male sex trafficking does exist among the homeless youth population, that childhood sexual victimization appears to be a precursor to sex trading later in life, that there are limited resources for males that participate in sex trading, and that more research needs to be done within this population. / Dissertation/Thesis / Masters Thesis Social Work 2014

Os mecanismos protetores utilizados por uma equipe multidisciplinar na promoção de crianças e adolescentes resilientes / Protective mechanism used by a multidisciplinary team in the promotion of children and adolescents resilient

Vincenzi, Maria Regina Rodrigues Costa 02 October 2010 (has links)

The objective of this research is to investigate the possibility of an institution to be a promoter of children and adolescents more resilient, describing the challenges and possible mechanisms to overcome them. Based on theoretical frameworks on the concept of resilience, has established a research project with qualitative methodology, case study, the concentration of interest was an institution that welcomes children and adolescents living in situations of risk. Field research was initially done using the technique of participant observation. Together with data that was obtained by this technique, interviews were conducted with five focus groups of interest: managers, professionals, trainees, children and adolescents who regularly attend the institution and the young graduates. The basic model is set up to use for each group tours with semi-structured questions about: resilience, risk factors, protective factors and vulnerability. These interviews were recorded and transcribed, and the categories listed. We obtained a set of information that were analyzed and interpreted in the context of the literature on each topic addressed. Through participant observation and interviews with focus groups there were also a participatory assessment of the institution. The results indicated that the importance of bonding, caring, a willingness to listen and a social support network are mechanisms to resilience in the present institution. However, the high turnover of trainees and lack of training of new members are seen as obstacles to such promotion. We conclude that an institution is able to promote resilience by providing a space for interpersonal relationships based on trust, care, conflict resolution and reducing the vulnerability of these children and adolescents are exposed. However, there is a need to engage in further discussions and interventions with the participation of civil society and greater involvement of managers so that does not simply transfer responsibility to an institution / Mestrado / Pediatria / Mestre em Saude da Criança e do Adolescente
