Hranice – redefinice městské struktury / Hranice – redefinition of urban structure

Varmužová, Adéla January 2019 (has links)
I think of a library in a small town as a social center rather than a closed institution. It should be seen as part of the public space of the city, an open place with a cultural - educational and social life. Apart from the possibility of concentrated individual study, it should also provide space for group work and social gathering of residents. Authors' readings, lectures and workshops are held in such a library. The library environment should be pleasant and suitable for a long stay with plenty of natural light and contact with the exterior. It includes a literary café, a buffet and an open-air reading room. The library in Hranice is designed as a terraced "house" with walking roofs. The building creates a link between the park and the street of 1. Máje. You can walk through the library from the street to park and vice versa, both through the interior of the library and outside on its roof.

Sportovní vybavenost v kontextu místa / Sports facilities in the context of the site

Matějka, Miroslav January 2011 (has links)
A new way of creating the imaginary boundary dividing the site into two parts, the part of the landscape and urban. In the municipal sports facilities will be located, designed for active sports like football, volleyball, basketball and existing venues, such as the Sokol in the northern part of the territory, which has the potential for further development. The publicly accessible sportovištím arises changing facilities and operations. In the scenic zone covers designed for relaxation and recreation. The atmosphere it provides the distance from the busy communication and other noise sources. The zone has a large lawn area for picnics and urged the rest by sporting venues for performances made ??active urban areas.

Fenomén Špičák / Spicak phenomenon

Dvořáková, Vendula January 2012 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the activation of the southwestern part of the Highlands Region. This section is not frequented by tourists. Those are just passing through this part, from the regional city of Jihlava in Telc, the historic town included on the UNESCO list. These two cities are among the most visited places in the Highlands, yet tourists around not delay longer. The reason is the lack of information about how to place and in particular the poor amenities.

The Slow Regard of Silent Things / Konsten att ta in tysta ting

Andersson, Matilda January 2018 (has links)
It is time for a library that does not hold all the knowledge. A library that rather deals with very well thought out collections, where you cannot check on the internet before you arrive and find out exactly where the book you want is placed, where you will actually have to browse, to find it, work for your accomplishment and there by add value to it. Perhaps find something different, something you weren’t specifically looking for. A library with a carefully changing selection of knowledge, like curating books.

Re-presenting the Waterfront: revealing the intersection of human and natural processes

Geronilla, Kristina 15 December 2004 (has links)
Water and waterfronts are appealing to almost any person, as a visitor or designer. This study challenges the author's design processes and understanding of the landscape as the sculpted meeting ground, intersecting human and natural physical processes. It progresses from assumptions through collaborated ideas of others in a literature review through case studies of various waterfront situations and finally to the design project of the Jones Point waterfront in Alexandria, Virginia. Here the intermingled aspects from cultural activities over time and local, physical movement of land by water are assessed to be revealed and enhanced for the visitor's benefit, use, and connection with place. For it is the author's belief that the landscape and space can be sculpted, experienced, and imagined for the purpose of connecting us to a larger framework of living systems on this planet and beyond. The design extends the city to the waterfront and vice versa with an understanding of both physical processes and cultural choices to the point of being unable to distinguish action from reaction. / Master of Landscape Architecture

Lina Parkhus

Asp, Erik January 2021 (has links)
Just outside of the town Södertälje, there is a vast farming landscape which is not in use anymore. My project is sett to preserve the landscape and take advantage of the close location to the city. By creating a civic center and a park at Lina, the place will get a new purse and the people of Södertälje gets a new place to meet. The civic center consists of a square and two buildings, which are encapsulated in two vast outdoor ceilings creating the perfekt place for outdoors activities such as weekend markets and concerts. The civic center consists of a library, premises for culture and sports, a restaurant and a caffe, various shops and rooms for various associations.

The Long-term Fate and Migration of DDT in Soil and Groundwater at Point Pelee National Park, Ontario, Canada

Mills , Ryan David 09 1900 (has links)
Last page is titled: Appendix 1: DVD of Model Simulations (See DVD in Back Envelope). There was no DVD present for upload. /
Point Pelee National Park (PPNP), located in Leamington, Ontario, Canada experienced widespread application of DDT from 1950 until DDT was banned in Canada in 1970. vVbile DDT has not been applied at PPNP for over 30 years recent studies have shown that the compounds DDT, ODE and DDD are highly persistent in shallow soils at PPNP and often exceed regulatory guidelines set forth by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Environment Canada. Field study combined with numerical modelling was undertaken to assess the concentrations of DDT, DDE and DDD in groundwater and provide insight into the fundamental processes controlling the persistence and migration of DDT within former agricultural areas of PPNP. Results of one-dimensional pesticide fate and transport modelling from 1950 to 2003 using LEACHMP show that within former agricultural areas of PPNP, DDT is transformed primarily not DOE under aerobic conditions. Within the Camp Henry Orchard (CHO), half lives for the production of DDE are 30 years. LEACHMP modelling showed that adsoption was the most important process limiting DDT leaching to groundwater. The depth to the water table was found to influence DDT concentrations seen at the water table throughout former agricultural areas of PPNP, and DDT is most likely leaching to the water table slowly over time. Two dimensional saturated zone modelling using OW-WETLAND was used to test various loading scenarios based on LEACHMP simulated fluxes across the water table. Model outputs illustrated the bidirectional movement of contaminants toward both the marsh and Lake Erie, depending on the source location relative to the groundwater flow divide. Simulations showed only groundwater from deep within the aquifer would have elevated DDT concentrations in 2003 if DDT leached to groundwater between 1950 and 1970. Conversely, if DDT began to leach to groundwater in the 1990's, the model predicted that DDT was not present in deep groundwater in 2003. With continued loading, concentrations throughout the aquifer will continue to rise into the future and discharge of DDT to the marsh and Lake Erie will occur.
/ Thesis / Master of Science (MSc)

The Servicing of Union Park 1909-1930

Gilliland, Jason Andrew 04 1900 (has links)

The provision of public services is an important process to consider when studying the development of urban areas. However, we know relatively little about the factors affecting the timing of essential services. Union Park, a working-class suburb of Hamilton, is an example of a neighbourhood that was serviced after a significant level of residential development had already taken place. Services were provided primarily in response to poor sanitary conditions. Residents petitioned for annexation to the city of Hamilton to receive the amenities of urban life, particularly water mains, sewers, cement walks, and paved roads. Public services were paid for primarily by the residents themselves. For this reason, they had some control over the timing of service installation. Residents could petition for or against servicing according to their financial situation. Capital availability had an impact on the timing of servicing, which occurred in stages between 1909 and 1930. World War 1 limited the amount of available capital, and shifted concerns to making ends meet in a wartime economy. Union Park was settled mainly by working-class British immigrants. Suburbs are commonly thought of as homogeneous middle-class neighbourhoods. Working-class suburbs have been virtually ignored in past research. This study on Union Park hopefully adds to the growing body of knowledge on the suburban working-class experience and the process of public service provision, in early twentieth-century North American cities.
/ Thesis / Candidate in Philosophy
