Perceived Physical Ability and Self-Perception of Adequacy and Enjoyment for Physical Activity in Elementary Students

Daugherty, Abigail D., Eveland-Sayers, Brandi M., Chroust, Alyson J., Boynewicz, Kara L., Dotterweich, Andy R., Steffey, Brianna R. 15 February 2019 (has links)
How children perceive their physical ability is important in understanding their reported adequacy, preferences, and predilection of physical activity. This relationship is useful in identifying lifelong physical activity behaviors. Purpose: The relationship between perceived physical ability and classroom engagement was investigated in elementary school children. Methods: Students (n = 120) in grades K5 completed the Perceived Physical Ability Scale (PPAS) and the Children’s Self-Perceptions of Adequacy and Predilection for Physical Activity (CSAPPA). Results: A statistically strong significant positive correlation (r = .49, P < .01) was found between the PPAS and CSAPPA indicating that students with higher perceived physical ability also reported higher scores on the CSAPPA. The high CSAPPA scores are indicative of students having a higher likelihood of choosing physical activity over a non-active option. No significant differences were noted between males and females or across grade levels. Conclusions: Based on these results students who have a greater perception of their physical ability also report being more likely to select a physically active option when given the choice. The findings of this study are noteworthy as previous studies have shown that differences between male and female students may exist with similar measures. These results may be indicative of the environment that has been created at the study site. The study site promotes a culture centered on respect, care, and a growth mindset within its student body. Future research comparing student to teacher ratio, cohesive student groups, and school schedules should be conducted to compare students’ PPAS and CSAPPA results. Programs designed to enhance perceived physical ability and enjoyment of physical activity are needed to promote lifetime physical activity habits.

Modelling Risk Management in Banks: Examining Why Banks Fail?

Okehi, Daniel Onyebuchi 01 January 2014 (has links)
The persistent bank failures in the Nigerian financial system have been a major concern of the government, depositors, shareholders, and the general public because of the important roles banks play in the economy. The aim of this research was to determine why there have been persistent bank failures in Nigeria and to investigate whether ineffective risk management in banks, coupled with poor corporate governance practices and nonadherence to regulations (independent variables), play a significant role in the banks' performance(dependent variable). The variables were operationalized by taking VaR as the proxy for risk management, having CRO as proxy for ERM , CAR as proxy for corporate governance, and ROE as proxy for performance. The square gap model formed the theoretical basis of this study. The research design was survey design, and a survey instrument was used to collect data from the target population of 300 senior bank executives who were randomly selected from the 24 operating banks in Nigeria. A multiple regression model was used to examine if risk management, governance practices, and regulation adherence significantly predicted bank performance. The findings of the study confirmed that there is a significant positive relationship between the independent variables and the dependent variable. These findings suggest that, by adopting effective risk management, improving corporate governance practices, and adhering to regulations, Nigerian banks can improve their performance. This research has positive social implications for those in the banking industry by ensuring the safety of the depositors' funds in banks, and stabilizing the payment system in the economy, which historically would have been disrupted by systemic failure in the banking industry.

Současná pravidla financování akvizic obchodních společností / Current regulation governing acquisition financing

Petrů, Jan January 2021 (has links)
Current regulation governing acquisition financing Abstract The thesis deals with financing of share deal acquisition operations. The first chapter points out idiosyncrasies of acquisition operations, providing context for the rest of the thesis. The second chapter deals with loan financing, one of the two financing methods described. The chapter starts off with Czech Civil Code's rules governing loans and goes on to provide an overview of stipulations used in corporate banking practice, including the usual arrangement of rights and obligations of lenders and borrower in case of syndicated loans. A subchapter about credit risk rounds off the second chapter. Not restricted to public law regulation, it describes derivatives used to hedge against credit risk and touches upon the influence of regulation on cost of loan financing. The third chapter is about bond financing. It offers a robust overview of Czech rules governing bonds as nominate debt securities and their issue. The consequent subchapter on placement of bonds handled by an investment firm serves as an equivalent of the banking practice- focused subchapter. Subjects that perform various tasks after placement in order to simplify the administration of a given issue are a topic which completes the third chapter. The conclusion of the thesis sets out...

<b>Patterns of Household Food Acquisition, Individual Dietary Diversity, and Child Nutrient Intakes Among Households in Rural Tanzania: Results from the EFFECTS Trial</b>

Savannah F O'Malley (17537880) 04 December 2023 (has links)
<p dir="ltr">Undernutrition affects millions of children in low- and middle- income countries, causing poor growth, poor development, and increased risk of mortality. Many nutrition-sensitive interventions for rural areas increase household access to nutritious foods through increasing home production, a strategy that has small positive effects on child diets. However, there is growing evidence that local markets are also important for dietary quality. Despite the importance of rural markets, the rural food environment and food purchasing practices among rural households are not well-characterized in the literature. It is possible that promoting improved household food purchase practices is an effective method for improving child nutrition in rural areas. Tanzania experiences a high prevalence of undernutrition among children under the age of 5 years, particularly among rural populations. This dissertation utilizes data from the Engaging Fathers for Effective Child Nutrition and Development in Tanzania (EFFECTS), a cluster randomized controlled trial that was conducted in rural Mara, Tanzania. The EFFECTS trial promoted improved diets through both home production and through food purchases through a social and behavior change strategy. We measured changes in dietary diversity (a proxy for diet quality), children’s nutrient intake adequacy, and diversity of foods purchased and produced. This dissertation presents evidence that food purchase diversity is positively associated with dimensions of the rural food environment, including high market food diversity (+0.37 food groups, p=0.01), living within 30 minutes of a market (+0.36 food groups, p=0.001) and household purchasing power (+0.14 food groups per additional million Tanzanian shillings spent by the household, p<0.001). In turn, purchase diversity is positively associated with dietary diversity (b=0.22, p<0.001), and intake adequacy of folate, vitamin B12, and calcium (all p<0.05) among children 9-23 months. Promoting food purchase diversity was effectively integrated into the EFFECTS interventions, resulting in purchasing +0.54 food groups at endline compared to changes in the control (p<0.01), which mediated 25% of the total improvement in child dietary diversity. In contrast, production diversity was associated with increased intake adequacy of vitamin A only (p<0.05), households produced +0.44 food groups at endline compared to control (p<0.05), and this mediated 15% of the total improvement in child dietary diversity. These findings suggest that promoting diverse food purchases, alongside diverse home production, is an effective way to improve children’s diets in similar settings.</p>

Capacity Market Design and Theory

Thor, Lisa, Palmborg, Simon January 2022 (has links)
Most modern electricity markets do not guarantee that generation is reliable and sufficient to provide all consumer’s electricity needs at all times. This is due to design-flaws and regulatory intervention. During the coming decades, increased electricity demand and decarbonization trends will affect the electricity market greatly. As the share of wind and solar power increases in the generation mix, the inertia in the power system is expected to decrease. This can potentially increase the systems exposure to blackout risk. Therefore, it is important to ensure that electricity is traded in a way that ensures enough supply even during scarcity events. The study aims to compare six different capacity market designs that are widely discussed in the scientific literature. Furthermore, this study uses MATLAB to simulate how the utility for the strategic reserve in Sweden has changed over the past few years. The study finds no ideal capacity market design but concludes that different solutions come with their own advantages and trade-offs. The simulation results show that the utility of the strategic reserve in Sweden has increased during the last few years. Additionally, the simulation results suggest that demand for the strategic result varies on a daily time frame. / Kandidatexjobb i elektroteknik 2022, KTH, Stockholm
