The dynamic management revolution of Big Data : A case study of Åhlen’s Big Data Analytics operation

Rystadius, Gustaf, Monell, David, Mautner, Linus January 2020 (has links)
Background: The implementation of Big Data Analytics (BDA) has drastically increased within several sectors such as retailing. Due to its rapidly altering environment, companies have to adapt and modify their business strategies and models accordingly. The concepts of ambidexterity and agility are said to act as mediators to these changes in relation to a company’s capabilities within BDA. Problem: Research within the respective fields of dynamic mediators and BDAC have been conducted, but the investigation of specific traits of these mediators, their interconnection and its impact on BDAC is scant. This actuality is seen as a surprise from scholars, calling for further empirical investigation.  Purpose: This paper sought to empirically investigate what specific traits of ambidexterity and agility that emerged within the case company of Åhlen’s BDA-operation, and how these traits are interconnected. It further studied how these traits and their interplay impacts the firm's talent and managerial BDAC. Method: A qualitative case study on the retail firm Åhlens was conducted with three participants central to the firm's BDA-operation. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with questions derived from the conceptual framework based upon reviewed literature and pilot interviews. The data was then analyzed and matched to literature using a thematic analysis approach.  Results: Five ambidextrous traits and three agile traits were found within Åhlen’s BDA-operation. Analysis of these traits showcased a clear positive impact on Åhlen’s BDAC, when properly interconnected. Further, it was found that in absence of such interplay, the dynamic mediators did not have as positive impact and occasionally even disruptive effects on the firm’s BDAC. Hence it was concluded that proper connection between the mediators had to be present in order to successfully impact and enhance the capabilities.

Streaming Analytics in User-centric Internet of Things Domains: A Fog-enabled System Architecture for Smart Home Applications

Zschörnig, Theo 31 May 2022 (has links)
A smart home is an apartment or a house in which smart devices communicate with each other to improve key areas of daily life, such as comfort, security or energy consumption. Therefore, the smart home domain is user-centric and exhibits characteristics that distinguish it from other application domains of the Internet of Things. Specifically, this concerns the existence of different 'regular' and 'smart' devices, but also the basic arrangement of each household, which is highly individual. As a result, the realization of analytics scenarios in the smart home domain is influenced by household-specific requirements regarding the configuration, composition and execution of analytics tasks. Existing approaches in scientific literature cover the resulting architectural challenges only insufficiently. With the emergence of new computing paradigms, architectural concepts and technologies, new opportunities for analytics approaches, which enable individual household insights, become evident. For this reason, the objective of this work is the design of an Internet of Things analytics architecture for smart home applications, which supports the flexible deployment of analytics pipelines, therefore enabling the generation of individual household insights. In order to achieve this goal, challenges for Internet of Things analytics architectures are identified and analyzed by conducting a literature review. Based on the resulting challenges catalog, an architectural model is designed that facilitates the processing and analysis of streaming data from smart devices of different kinds. The developed architecture utilizes the fog computing paradigm, therefore allowing the deployment and execution of analytics pipelines in the cloud as well as at edge of the network. The architectural model is the foundation for a prototype, which is implemented to evaluate the proposed solution. The evaluation is performed by conducting several experiments, which are designed in order to validate the prototypes feasibility to address the found challenges. The main contributions of this work are a challenges catalog for Internet of Things analytics architectures, an architectural model for analytics in smart home applications as well as a prototype, which is based on it.

Marketing Research in the 21st Century: Opportunities and Challenges

Hair, Joe F., Harrison, Dana E., Risher, Jeffrey J. 01 October 2018 (has links)
The role of marketing is evolving rapidly, and design and analysis methods used by marketing researchers are also changing. These changes are emerging from transformations in management skills, technological innovations, and continuously evolving customer behavior. But perhaps the most substantial driver of these changes is the emergence of big data and the analytical methods used to examine and understand the data. To continue being relevant, marketing research must remain as dynamic as the markets themselves and adapt accordingly to the following: Data will continue increasing exponentially; data quality will improve; analytics will be more powerful, easier to use, and more widely used; management and customer decisions will increasingly be knowledge-based; privacy issues and challenges will be both a problem and an opportunity as organizations develop their analytics skills; data analytics will become firmly established as a competitive advantage, both in the marketing research industry and in academics; and for the foreseeable future, the demand for highly trained data scientists will exceed the supply.

Mapping Social Media Analytics for Small Business: A Case Study of Business Analytics

Kim, Sookhyun 01 January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to develop a guideline/map for small businesses to effectively utilise social media analytics and to create appropriate strategies through an examination of Key Performance Indicators with the business analytics process (Strategy-making map). Also, the researcher examines the new sequential relationships among business analytics types, the role of human analysts in business analytics, and the reciprocal relationships among the social media marketing goals. This is a case study with a local small business’s social media analytics provided by a social media network platform (i.e., Facebook Insights). The map visualises how to interpret the KPIs and how to create effective marketing strategies based on the organisational decision-making model. The results supported that if a business could create a winning strategy based on accurate business analytics with human analysts, the business could achieve multiple social media goals at once with a single marketing strategy.

Informations- und Wissenstransfer in kollaborativen Lernsystemen: Eine strukturelle und relationale Analyse über den Einfluss sozialer Organisationsstrukturen in Wissensnetzwerken am Beispiel der Lernplattform OPAL

Stützer, Cathleen M. 03 December 2013 (has links)
[…] / In the network society of the 21st century, a key strategy for web-based exchange of information and knowledge is their collaborative distribution and use. Technical hurdles of access are mostly being overcome with technological advances and traditional forms of passing on knowledge are being complemented by modern, e-learning environments. Within research into education, the foundation for socio-cultural progress is formed by involvement with collaborative teaching and learning scenarios in a dynamic exchange of information and knowledge. The emphasis of this work lay in the analysis of structures and relationships of social organisations within knowledge networks. The aim was to describe the exchange of information and knowledge in collaborative learning systems and to explore its influence on the potential for innovation and distribution of information and knowledge. A study was undertaken of the interaction of participants in discussion forums as exemplified by the learning platform OPAL – currently the most popular learning management system in secondary school education in Saxony, Germany. On the assumption that social interaction, particularly involving collaborative media, the progress of education and the construction of knowledge networks do influence teaching and learning processes, this work explored the structural conditions of OPAL's collaborative knowledge network and identified relationships between social role constructs in order to explain the effect of collaborative activities on the process of diffusion of information and knowledge in knowledge networks. Primarily the study was based on relationship oriented sociological models and communication theory models, and research methods for relationships, including SNA (Social Network Analysis) and DNA (Dynamic Network Analysis) were applied, so as to create a basis for further implementation of social network teaching and learning strategies in educational research. Incorporating a tag management system in an agile web development process to become more data-driven

Dyrhage, Max January 2017 (has links)
Web analytics are used to track and examine user behavior on websites and web applications. In order to take data driven decisions companies and organizations working with the web look to web analytics to understand their users. A piece of Javascript code that collect user behavior and information is often referred to as a tag, which can be managed through a tag management system. Tag management systems can provide structure to how a website’s users’ behaviors are being measured. This study examines how a tag management system can enable web analytics of user data to be incorporated in an agile web development process at the Swedish company Dailybitsof. With a literature study, case study and interviews with professionals on the subject, a set of recommendations to enable web analytics is presented. This study suggests that a tag management system can enable web analytics to be incorporated into an agile web development process if it is implemented in combination with changes to the agile process. Data Gathering From Educational User Devices : A Learning Framework for the Inicio Organisation

Öhman, Simon January 2018 (has links)
Sweden is currently going through changes in curricula, syllabuses and subject plans for elementary school and upper secondary school in order to adapt to the growing need of digital competence in the society. Inicio is an organisation that strives to help schools adjust to these changes in strategy. Inicio arranges events where students can work with educational user devices, designed to educate the user in specific areas. Inicio wants to understand how their users learn, while using the educational user devices. This report answers that question through the use of a learning framework that describes how usage data can be collected and analyzed. In addition, the framework allows analysis of both the devices and the events themselves. This gives Inicio the ability to measure the quality of what they provide and make improvements where necessary. The framework is built to be general enough to be applicable for future areas that Inicio may want to expand into. The finished framework is the result of an iterative process where applicability, scalability and ease of use have been the main focus. This report provides results in the form of the framework, two dream scenarios, an implementation example for a current device, documentation and a visual aid to simplify the use of the framework. The dream scenarios are made up use cases designed to test the framework for future products in both hardware and software environments.

MULTI-ATTRIBUTE AND TEMPORAL ANALYSIS OF PRODUCT REVIEWS USING TOPIC MODELLING AND SENTIMENT ANALYSIS

Meet Tusharbhai Suthar (14232623) 08 December 2022 (has links)
<p>Online reviews are frequently utilized to determine a product's quality before purchase along with the photographs and one-to-five star ratings. The research addressed the two distinct problems observed in the review systems. </p> <p>First, due to thousands of reviews for a product, the different characteristics of customer evaluations, such as consumer sentiments, cannot be understood by manually reading only a few reviews. Second, from these reviews, it is extremely hard to understand the change in these sentiments and other important product aspects over the years (temporal analysis). To address these problems, the study focused on 2 main research parts.</p> <p>Part one of the research was focused on answering how topic modelling and sentiment analysis can work together to give deeper understanding on attribute-based product review. The second part compared different topic modelling approaches to evaluate the performances and advantages of emerging NLP models. For this purpose, a dataset consisting of 469 publicly accessible Amazon evaluations of the Kindle E-reader and 15,000 reviews of iPhone products was utilized to examine sentiment Analysis and Topic modelling. Latent Dirichlet Allocation topic model and BERTopic topic model were used to perform topic modelling and to acquire the diverse topics of concern. Sentiment Analysis was carried out to better understand each topic's positive and negative tones. Topic analysis of Kindle user evaluations revealed the following major themes: (a) leisure consumption, (b) utility as a gift, (c) pricing, (d) parental control, (e) reliability and durability, and (f) charging. While the main themes emerged from the analysis of iPhone reviews depended on the model and year of the device, some themes were found to be consistent across all the iPhone models including (a) Apple vs Android (b) utility as gift and (c) service. The study's approach helped to analyze customer reviews for any product, and the study results provided a deeper understanding of the product's strengths and weaknesses based on a comprehensive analysis of user feedback useful for product makers, retailers, e-commerce platforms, and consumers.</p>

The development of an immersive virtual exploratory engine (IVEE) for immersive analytics

Karam, Sofia 10 December 2021 (has links) (PDF)
Due to increasing data complexity, researchers are struggling to visually explore data using traditional methods. Research has shown that a variety of analytics-related tasks can be enhanced using new emerging technologies (e.g., virtual reality [VR] and augmented reality [AR]). This paper provides a detailed design approach for developing an immersive virtual engine system for conducting exploratory and descriptive data analytics. This system is called the Immersive Virtual Exploratory Engine (IVEE), is a VR system that allows users to experience full intractability with its graphical elements and examines various datasets within the same immersive environment. Basic plots—such as histograms, line plots, and other exploratory analytics—can be created in both 2D and 3D to visualize datasets. Furthermore, the proposed module provides a data sub-setting system, entitled “Lasso,” as well as a visual element merge system that allows users to subset and merge data using natural interactions only. The system also allows for the simultaneous visualization of multiple representations, thus supporting decisions that require numerous plots. Furthermore, the system supports remote collaboration, allowing users from different locations to come together in a virtual space and work collaboratively as they would in a real-life setting.
