A Reflection on the use of the narrative analogy in couples' counselling : a case example

Botha, Petro 11 1900 (has links)
Text in English / In this study the use of the narrative analogy in couple's counselling has been outlined. A literature study situates the narrative analogy within a wider philosophical framework. The underlying assumptions of the narrative analogy, both in general and in the work with couples, as well as the role of the counsellor using the narrative analogy, are explored. A case example is described to illustrate the use of the narrative analogy. / Social Work / M. Soc. Sc. (Mental Health)

How the New Labour Government Third Way policies (1998-2010) and the delivery of the New Deal for Communities (NDC) regeneration programme impacted on participation in health care in an area-based initiative. A longitudinal study using action-learning research methodology in a New Deal for Communities Area Based Initiative

Greenham, Felicity J. January 2018 (has links)
The research examines New Labour’s Third Way policies and the impact New Deal for Communities (NDC) regeneration programme had on participation in health care. This longitudinal study (1998-2007) explores participatory joint working, welfare state, social capacity, health inequalities, citizen involvement and community capacity. It captures the experiences of local community and front-line workers whilst delivering the Health Focus Group (HFG) in the NDC programme. Using action learning reflection techniques, the study analyses a purposeful sample of 15 from the local community, front-line workers, and strategic respondents involved in the NDC health programme. The research demonstrated the NDC did increase participation, joint working and involvement of local actors 1998–2003. The importance of communication, leadership and relationships was recognised as an important catalyst for developing community governance models. The new action learning spaces initiated, designed and delivered 19 new models of joint local clinical, community and complementary health and well-being projects. In 2001, New Labour introduced public private finance initiatives with the Primary Care Trust (PCT) which conflicted with the local actors’ involvement in the participatory joint decision-making. The reconfiguration of health and social care services and the new public health models introduced complex governance and monitoring models, further distancing the local actors from the process. Strategic staff changes in key governance positions also adversely affected the communication and trust established with local actors. The research concluded operational, tactical, and strategic alignment is necessary to maximise joint participation in decision-making.

行動取向的職前師資培育模式之研究--以國小國語科識字與寫字教學為例 / An Action Orientation Model for Preservice Teacher Education----An Example in Teaching Elementary School Students’ Chinese Vocabulary and Handwriting

陳添球, Tien-Chiu Chen Unknown Date (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate an action-learning model for teacher education. In addition, the study intended to provide implications for the linking knowledge and action of teacher education. The current researcher reviewed literature to analyze the rationale of an action-learning model for teacher education and to construct the five variables of knowledge, design, performance, reflection and mastering for the model. The experiment method was used. The subject was two student teachers. One student teacher studied how to teach elementary school students’ Chinese vocabulary and handwriting from a videodisk. Both the two student teachers teach elementary school students’ Chinese vocabulary and handwriting for six sessions. Knowledge elicitation interview, instructional design, thinking aloud and video recoding were used for datd collection. The showing your work analysis, protocol analysis, constant comparison analysis, the pathfinder analysis, frequency analysis and percentage analysis were used for data analysis. The findings from this study are the following: 1.The pedagogical domain-specific knowledge or pedagogical content knowledge was blended by the knowledge of domain-general and the knowledge of specific-specific. In order to analyze the pedagogical domain-specific knowledge from instructional design, the knowledge of general-general is named of intra-general-general. The knowledge of domain-specific should be divided into inner-domain-general content, inner-lesson-specific content, inner-domain-general pedagogy, and inner-domain-general process. 2.The programmed knowledge learned from teacher education program and from experiment treatment were able to develop the representation of teaching action and teaching action. The two kinds of knowledge were useable. 3.Teaching elementary school students’ Chinese vocabulary and handwriting needs to blend the knowledge of intra--domain general and the knowledge of domain-specific(The knowledge of inner-domain-general content, inner-lesson-specific content, inner-domain-general pedagogy, inner-domain-general teaching process). 4.To design the teaching of elementary school students’ Chinese vocabulary and handwriting need to blend the knowledge of general-general and the knowledge of specific-specific. The more the knowledge of these two areas induces the more production of representation of teaching action. 5. The subjects had transferred 84% representation of teaching action into their teaching in the current study. 6.The more knowledge of intra-domain general and the knowledge of domain-specific could produce the more production of the representation of teaching action. The more production of the representation for teaching action could transfer the more performance in teaching. The more performance of teaching could induce the more reflection of teaching. The current study not only provides implications for teacher education but also suggests directions for further research.

Refleksies van ’n ervaringsleermodel vir gemeenskapsintervensies (Afrikaans)

De Beer, Sarina 28 May 2008 (has links)
The challenge to create learning environments that could promote learning is an aspect which currently enjoys much attention in the higher education environment. According to the outcomes based approach, learners are required to be equipped with relevant and applicable skills when entering the workforce on completion of their studies. With this as background, this study investigated the applicability of experiential learning as an approach that could enable learners to make optimal use of changing learning environments. Experiential learning mainly takes place through learners’ exposure to concrete experiences which are then critically reflected upon. The concept of action learning is often used as synonym for experiential learning, as the principles underlying these concepts and the philosophical assumptions are the same. Service learning is an application field of experiential learning that differs from the traditional learning approach. Learners learn from their exposure to learning experiences, whereas service rendering takes place simultaneously. In this study attention will be paid to the importance of reflection in the learning process. On completion of the learning experience learners critically investigate their own values, preconceptions, insights they have gained in the process and actions. The reflective learning process gives learners the opportunity to monitor their own learning objectives, to enhance insight and understanding and observe the interaction between theory and practice. In addition to this the process allows them to optimise human potential by applying what they have learned. According to the process followed in this study, learners have developed and implemented certain psycho-social interventions in collaboration with a specific community. At the start of the process learners were requested to keep their dairies up to date and use these to reflect on any aspect of their learning experience. With the consent of the learners a quantitative analysis was done of the content of their dairies and certain themes have manifested. The main themes that have been identified refer to the experiences during the development and implementation of the intervention and these relate mainly to the learning facilitator. Initially learners were quite dependent on familiar structures but once they became more at ease with the process, they were able to observe and manage the process with greater freedom. One aspect that is prominent in this study is the significance of group processes - not only for the individual learner, but also as part of the greater environment. Learners were specifically challenged to manage the unpredictability of the various processes – something which has required greater adaptability and leniency of learners. Learners’ reflections on the achievement of learning outcomes centre on opportunities to practically apply their theoretical knowledge. In many learners the interaction between theory and practice has resulted in the expansion of their cognitive content. Many references were also made to the improvement of life skills which relate specifically to the group processes and personal enrichment. A reflective attitude in a learning environment facilitates opportunities for learners to build on their current knowledge and develop a greater emotive conscience of the various processes and people involved in the learning environment. In addition to this individual life skills can also become more prominent. Reflection on learning experiences is a critical component by which learners could make sense of their experiences and apply their knowledge, emphasise the greater environment and support the interaction between people and the self as part of the learning process. / Dissertation (MA (Research Psychology))--University of Pretoria, 2008. / Psychology / unrestricted

Ledarskap från ovan, inom och bortom : En fallstudie av fyra sjöfartsnäringsföretag / Leadership from above, within and beyond : A case study of four shipping companies

Papadopoulos, Konstantinos, Öst, Kent Love January 2022 (has links)
How shipping companies develop their leadership is something not studied as much by scholarly literature. Investments in leadership are estimated to 370 billion dollars, for 2021, by companies around the world. Yet, maritime literature is not very extensive regarding the shore-based sector and leadership, something controversial considering influence higher levels have within companies. This study aimed to identify and describe shipping companies’ perspectives on the relationship between leadership and management and their strategies for developing their leadership capacity. This study’s research questions were: 1. How do shipping companies experience the relationship between leadership and management, and in further, which of the two makes the most difference in today’s competitive markets? 2. What are shipping companies’ strategies for developing their leadership capacity, and how do they implement these strategies? A qualitative method for the case study of four selected international shipping companies’ top management was used. Moreover, data was collected via semi-structured interviews. This study found that it is important for shipping companies to distinguish between leadership and management as each serves different purposes within organizations. Moreover, interviewed shipping companies view leadership development as a challenging process but one that can keep them competitive. Finally, shipping companies follow leadership development strategies of 360-degree feedback, executive coaching, networking and action learning although not as strict as leadership research suggests.

An exploratory study of the methods and strategies implemented to integrate unaccompanied minors in five residential home in Sweden

Dao, Catherine. H January 2014 (has links)
The aim of the study was to explore what methods the personnel in five residential care homes in Götaland, Sweden, implement to integrate unaccompanied minors. The study investigated how and what methods are constructed as well as how the social interaction between the unaccompanied minors and the personnel at the homes bring about the learning of the methods. Five face-to-face semi-structured interviews were conducted and analysed through the perspective of social construction and social learning theory. The result revealed that the methods are not clearly identified by the personnel. The personals are still learning how to work with unaccompanied minors from their experiences. This indicates that the practice is at its infant stage. The study found a wide variety of methods, which were based on the child and where some methods intend to build good relationship, to integrate the children into society and to facilitate the development of strategies and methods. The study also addresses the issue of how the methods and strategies can be affected by the dynamic migratory flow and the question of evidence based practice within this field.

'Where does the new come from?' : an ethnography of design performances of 'the new'

Gaspar, Andrea Marques January 2013 (has links)
The core concern of my thesis is with shifting the focus from the description on how innovation is done (predominantly STS accounts of innovation in-the-making) to what designers do with conceptions of innovation. The thesis is based on ethnographic fieldwork within a group of interaction designers of Milan. Despite the different conceptions and traditions of innovation that these designers bring in – the artistic and technological ones – I observed that a design-centered conception of innovation is reproduced, as well as the idea that plans and intentions precede things. However, another key idea of my fieldwork is the importance designers give to imagining things as they might be, rather than focusing on how things are. This is where different models of action, planned and open ones coexist in creative ways: it is these processes that the ethnography details.

Didaktické situace pro výuku matematiky ve francouzštině / Didactical situations for teaching mathematics in French

Sovič, Pavel January 2019 (has links)
The diploma thesis focuses on learning Maths through French language using the CLIL method at a secondary vocational school. The acronym CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning), EMILE (Enseignement de Matières par Intégration d'une Langue Etrangère) or e.g. AICL (Apprentissage Intégré d'un Contenu et d'une Langue) refers to integrated learning of a content-based subject through an additional language. There are always two aims of such tuition. The first aim is the content goal (e.g. to gain particular specialized knowledge or skill in mathematics); the second aim is the language goal (e.g. to learn essential vocabulary and sentence structures in order to lead a discussion concerning the solution of a quadratic equation in the French language). Based on a literary research, analysis of educational CLIL materials, and especially in connection with theoretical grounds of the method (constructivism, problem-solving, critical thinking, active and communicative approach) there was established a study plan focusing on the topic of quadratic equations. The experimental tuition was put into practice with the 1st year students of a secondary school, where the French language is taught as the second foreign language. The main objective, apart from the tuition itself and its analysis, was to assess the...
