A influência da presença de ações educativas e de saúde animal sobre a guarda responsável de animais em área da cidade de São Paulo / The influence of educational and animal health actions on the responsible ownership of animals in an area of São Paulo

Carolina Ballarini Zetun 27 August 2013 (has links)
The pets responsible ownership is important for two main issues: Ethics and Public Health. Proper care of the animals is an ethical issue increasingly discussed in our society due to stronger human-animal relationship. Nevertheless, responsible ownership is an interesting topic not only for those who care for a dignified life to animals, but also essential to prevent public health problems such as aggression and zoonosis. This study aimed to verify if the availability of veterinary care, free castrations, and educational activities for two years in a community of São Paulo city made it more responsible towards domestic animals. As main results, significant change in the amount of positive destinations that were given to dogs after the presence of health services in the community was observed. Furthermore, concomitant increase in dogs with guardians was observed, requiring a continuous pet management program.

Contact Anosov actions with smooth invariant bund / Ações Anosov de contato com fibrados invariantes suaves

Uirá Norberto Matos de Almeida 29 March 2018 (has links)
The problem of classifying the Anosov systems is of great interest in the theory of dynamical systems. The most important known examples are of algebraic nature and it has been conjectured on 1960s by S. Smale (SMALE, 1967) that these are in fact the only examples. This conjecture has been proved false for Anosov flows, where counter examples had been constructed for odd dimensional manifolds ((HANDEL; THURSTON, 1980) and (BARTHELMé et al., )). This non algebraic examples however are very pathological, and with some stronger hypothesis, for example, smoothness of the invariant bundles, the conjecture remains open. In 1992, it was published a paper (BENOIST; FOULON; LABOURIE, 1992) which proved that contact Anosov flows with smooth invariant bundles are in fact algebraic. In this monograph we seek to generalize the result obtained in (BENOIST; FOULON; LABOURIE, 1992). For this end, we create an adequate definition for contact Anosov Rk-actions, and following the proof strategy used in (BENOIST; FOULON; LABOURIE, 1992) we obtained a partial generalization of this result.

Scalable action detection in video collections / Détection scalable d'actions dans des collections vidéo

Stoian, Andrei 15 January 2016 (has links)
This thesis proposes new methods for indexing video collections with varied content, such as cultural archives. We focus on human actions, which represent an important cultural aspect, together with sound, images and speech. Our main technical challenge is 'How to quickly detect and precisely localize human actions in a large video collection, when these actions are given as a query through example video clips?'. Thus, the difficulty of the task is due to criteria: quality of detection and search response time.

Infinite discrete group actions

Kairzhan, Adilbek January 2016 (has links)
The nature of this paper is expository. The purpose is to present the fundamental material concerning actions of infinite discrete groups on the n-sphere and pseudo-Riemannian space forms based on the works of Gehring, Martin and Kulkarni and provide appropriate examples. Actions on the n-sphere split it into ordinary and limit sets. Assuming, additionally, that a group acting on the n-sphere has a certain convergence property, this thesis includes conditions for the existence of a homeomorphism between the limit set and the set of Freudenthal ends, as well as topological and quasiconformal conjugacy between convergence and Mobius groups. Since the certain pseudo-Riemannian space forms are diffeomorphic to non-compact spaces, the work of Hambleton and Pedersen gives conditions for the extension of discrete co-compact group actions on pseudo-Riemannian space forms to actions on the sphere. An example of such an extension is described. / Thesis / Master of Science (MSc)

Mediators and Moderators in the Relative Deprivation – Crime/Counter-normative Actions Relationship

Seepersad, Randy 03 March 2010 (has links)
Researchers have failed to specify when crime and counter-normative actions, as opposed to other responses may occur as a consequence of relative deprivation. To clarify this issue, a mediational model was developed that specified the causal processes leading from the recognition of deprivation to crime and counter-normative actions. This model hypothesizes that the recognition of deprivation (cognitive relative deprivation) leads to feelings associated with this recognition (affective relative deprivation) which in turn leads to crime and counter-normative actions. This model applies to both personal and group deprivation. In both cases, the feelings associated with deprivation include anger, resentment, dissatisfaction, and discontent. Data from a sample of 950 males between the ages of 16 to 30 supported the mediational model. Moderator variables were hypothesized to influence the causal processes in the mediational model, and were thus employed to specify the conditions under which the recognition of deprivation became more likely to lead to intense emotional reactions, and the conditions under which these emotional reactions became more likely to lead to crime and counter-normative actions. Personal deprivation was found to lead to stronger emotional responses if persons were pessimistic about their deprivation being relieved in the future, while at the group level, higher levels of optimism were related to stronger emotional responses. Both types of deprivation also lead to stronger emotional responses when persons believe that financial success and wealth are important. The emotive responses for both personal and group deprivation, in turn, were more likely to lead to crime and counter-normative actions if deprived persons had criminal peers. It was also found that the recognition of personal deprivation was more likely to lead to depression and lower self-esteem if people blamed themselves for their deprivation than if they did not. Persons who were not optimistic that their deprivation would be relieved in the future were more depressed than persons who were optimistic. Persons whose in-group was deprived were more likely to have lower self-esteem if they blamed the in-group for its deprivation than if they did not.

The relationship between Vietnamese EFL students' beliefs and learning preferences and native English-speaking teachers' beliefs and teaching practices

Nguyen, Truong Sa January 2013 (has links)
This study examines the relationships between foreign language learning beliefs and preferences of 2 Vietnamese learners and beliefs and practices of 2 Native English speaking teachers in a private English school in Vietnam. The learners were not satisfied with learning English in public schools and had many expectations on the course and the teachers while the teachers had to make their learners pleased. Beliefs were reviewed as determinations of actions; beliefs entail knowledge, values, and attitude, and relate closely to identity and experience. The researcher adopted an interpretivist paradigm and three qualitative methods: Repgrid interview, Stimulated recall interview, and The COLT as an observation schedule. The interview data was coded inductively with content analysis method to build up the subjects’ beliefs and belief systems. Then, the systems were compared to find the relationships between their beliefs. To see how their beliefs related with learning preferences and teaching practices, the researcher analysed what they said and made use of the video record of their classroom activities; besides, the teachers’ beliefs were compared with the timing calculation of the activities in their classes. The results showed that beliefs about language learning affected strongly the participants’ preferred ways of teaching and learning and there were tight matches between the teachers’ beliefs and actions in class. There were influences of beliefs of the teachers and learners on each other, they were not direct influences but through their interpretations of the classroom events. However, the influences from the teacher were much clearer. After the course, the learners’ preferences and beliefs about some learning activities were changed and became more reflective. They also started to recognize the benefits of different ways of learning English. Meanwhile, the teachers’ interpretation of their learners’ expectations, learning preferences, and levels strongly affected what and how they taught.
