Mediální reflexe politické agendy prezidenta Václava Klause / Media reflection of the president Václav Klaus' political agendaPicková, Zuzana January 2012 (has links)
Presidents are said to exert their influence mainly through addressing the public and public speaking. Setting the media agenda is considered as one of the presidents' main strategic powers. Although the contemporary Czech president Václav Klaus enjoys substantial media attention, it is not granted that the media report on everything he says and emphasises. This research focuses on the interaction between presidential speeches at important occasions, represented by the 1 January, 28 October, and 17 November address, and the media represented by three nation-wide dailies Mladá fronta DNES, Právo and Blesk. The time span of the research is 2007 to 2011. The analysis seeks to examine how often were the presidential speeches reported by the media, and which particular topics from them generated press coverage. The results show that the media were mostly attracted by the 1 January address, while the 17 November speech received least attention. It has also emerged that the media reporters have been choosing selectively which topics from the speeches to cover. The scope of the space dedicated to each of the topics by the president in his speeches has not been reflected by the journalists. This dissertation thesis follows from a wide stream of considerations of the relationship between the mass media, public and politics; in particular detail, it deals with a specific concept which attempts to grasp, model and empirically examine this relationship. The main goals of the thesis can be in short divided into two interrelated areas. The first aim is to introduce the concept of agenda setting to the Czech academic environment, with its theoretical, terminological and research frame for an analysis of relationships between the mass media content, dynamics of public opinion, and the political sphere. The second aim is to analyze how agenda setting processes are theoretically grounded and studied in the Czech social studies. The theoretical part of the thesis is structured according to two perspectives: diachronic and synchronic. In the diachronic perspective, I try to grasp the social context and historical origins of agenda-setting as a concept, its development, main trends, and developmental lines. This way, I move forward to the synchronic perspective and describe academic grounding of agenda-setting; I give a detailed analysis of the present level of the agenda-setting research and the main research areas through available classifications. [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / This paper aims at analyzing the articles about mafia published in the present-day dailies of the Northern, Southern and Central Italy and revealing the presentation of the mafia phenomena like one of the Italy’s image and self image forming assumption and revealing the differences of the phenomena presentation in the different parts of the State. The main sources for this thesis are the articles concerning mafia published in the Italian dailies “Corriere della Sera”, “La Repubblica” and ��Il Mattino” covering the period from the 1st of January, till the 31st of December, 2007. It was hypothesized that being a part of the state’s identity, mafia doesn’t have tangible influence on Italian self image but because of its existence, the dailies positioned image of the State is negatively influenced. Content analysis quantitative and qualitative, genre analysis and scientific literature analysis methods were used for the research. The hypothesis was proven and some other facts regarding an image and a self image of Italy were discovered. / Ogni crimine ampiamente proclamato fa un effeto negativo sull’immagine dello stato. Il fenomeno mafioso, per il suo impatto storico e culturale all’idenità italiana, non può essere considerato come solamente negativo.
L’obbiettivo di questa ricerca è, basandosi sull’analisi quantitativa, qualitativa, generica, degli articoli sulla mafia dei quotidiani, rappresentanti le diverse parti – Nord, Sud e Centrale – dell’Italia, e anche sull’analisi della letteratura scientifica, esaminare la rappresentazione del fenomeno mafioso come una premessa della formazione dell’immagine e dell’(auto)immagine d’Italia nelle parti diverse del paese.
L‘oggetto della ricerca sono gli articoli sulla mafia pubblicati nei quotidiani „Corriere della Sera”, „La Repubblica” e „Il Mattino” nel 2007.
L‘ipotesi della ricerca suppone che essendo una parte dell’identità dello stato, la mafia non ha un impatto significativo all’immagine d’Italia. Ma l’esistenza del fenomeno, fa un effetto negativo sull’immagine dello stato che viene posizionato nella stampa italiana.

The analysis "Framing of immigration in Czech daily newspapers" reveals how Czech daily newspapers framed so called migration crisis in Europe in 2015 when the immi- gration issue belonged to the most important issues in both Czech and foreign news media. This thesis draws from theoretical and analytical concept of media framing and concept of Agenda setting which deal with aspects used by media in describing reality, and their media effects on public opinion. Quantitative content analysis of five national daily newspapers revealed that immi- gration issue was represented mainly as international political problem, followed by security threat as the second most frequent topic of news on immigration. In almost all news articles the immigration issue was framed as problem, whereas cause frame and solution frame were present in approximately a quarter of news on immigration. Czech and foreign politicians and government sources were the most cited or para- phrased actors in Czech daily newspapers. On the other hand, refugees, immigrants and ci- tizens were less frequent speakers, and experts rarely commented on the issue of immigration in Czech daily newspapers. This thesis deals with the Local Agenda 21 (MA21) and its impact to the municipality development. The Local Agenda 21 was derived from The Agenda 21, the main document of sustainable development agreed by UN in 1992. It is generally known that society development, population growth and growing peoples needs meet the limited quantities of the resources. Exactly this conflict between unlimited peoples wants and the limited amount of the resources has led to creating the Agenda 21 which was the reaction to unreasonable wastage of the resources and to environment deterioration. Local Agenda 21 is a blueprint paper for local authorities and its main aim is to achieve sustainable development in the particular area. Efficient usage of the resources may be seen as a proper solution. International project Healthy cities (WHO) operates with principles of sustainable development. The theoretical recourse may be found in the first part of the thesis. The practical implementation of MA21 principles (they are derived from principles of sustainable development) in Pelhřimov may be found in the following part. Pelhřimov joined the mentioned project Healthy cities in 2005. It means that these municipalities should respect sustainable development, environment and citizens opinions. Healthy cities also should preserve the environment for future generation.

The thesis deals with the election of the Director General of Czech Television in 2017. The topic is viewed from the perspective of the media agenda of print and online media. The researched media was chosen by the key of the highest readership in the period from the beginning of January to the end of April 2017. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part deals with the specifics of the effects of media, which categorizes into three types. Furthermore, the theory mentions the concept agenda-setting, which belong to the long-term effects of the media, and which includes the examined media agenda. The theory also defines the concepts of public service and public service media, related terms and basic legal anchoring. The theoretical part also presents the Czech Television institution and its supervisory body, which elects the General Director, the Council of Czech Television. The practical part, through the analysis of news outputs that were published for the election in the defined period, using quantitative content analysis and qualitative analysis of the frameworks, shows how the choice was displayed in the media environment and what topics it raised. This diploma thesis examines the impact of the former US President Donald Trump's private Twitter account on agenda-building and how the Czech media work with information from this account. The diploma thesis is divided into two parts. The first part of the diploma thesis deals with the key theories and concepts of media studies such as the theory of agenda-setting, gatekeeping, news values, framing and intermedia agenda-setting. It also focuses on the contemporary form of political communication and the phenomenon of celebrity politics. The thesis also includes the overview of existing studies describing the political communication of the former US President Donald Trump on the social networking site Twitter and confirm the agenda-building role of this social network. The second part of the diploma thesis describes the research methodology and subsequent quantitative content analysis of news articles. The findings of quantitative content analysis are explained in the context of the theoretical concepts and previous studies. One of the main findings of this thesis is that Trump was able to some extent build media agenda, frame different topics and events and control his image in the media through his Twitter account.

[pt] O presente estudo teve por objetivo identificar os atributos do conselho e
as características da empresa associados a um conselho de administração
estratégico. Parte-se da realidade brasileira de governança e busca-se
trazer luz para algumas das questões envolvendo o que é um conselho
estratégico inovador, como identificá-lo, como se organizam os atributos de
um conselho estratégico, quais as características da firma que podem estar
associadas a um conselho estratégico e ainda, verificar se grupos de
empresas com os fatores associados a um conselho estratégico teriam
desempenho superior. Por meio de uma análise de conteúdo sobre 6.985
itens de pauta, de 3.084 reuniões de conselho de administração, de 325
empresas brasileiras de capital aberto em 2018, foram identificados quatro
níveis quanto ao teor estratégico dos temas de discussão do conselho. A
análise envolveu um sistema categórico não apriorístico (FRANCO, 2007),
embora tenha utilizado em grande medida o modelo de Clarke (2018)
quanto à estrutura das funções do conselho de administração. Verificou-se
que, na maioria das empresas, houve reuniões de conselho de temáticas
envolvendo perspectivas futuras da empresa. O teor estratégico das
reuniões de conselho formou a variável dependente utilizada nos estudos
quantitativos. Aplicando a técnica de regressão multivariada, obteve-se que
a quantidade de reuniões de CA, a quantidade de membros no CA, a
quantidade de conselheiros independentes, a presença feminina no CA, a
idade média do conselho, e o setor, se intensivo em conhecimento, são
previsores do teor estratégico dos conselhos de administração. Com o
auxílio da técnica de clusterização, verificou-se a existência de três grupos
de empresas associados ao nível estratégico do CA: (1) conselhos
legalistas, (2) conselhos maduros estratégicos e (3) conselhos emergentes
estratégicos. Verificou-se que os dois grupos dos conselhos estratégicos
superam o desempenho do grupo de conselhos legalistas medido em
termos de retorno sobre o ativo médio de 2017 e 2018. Por fim, por meio
da técnica de regressão logística binomial, identificamos que o modelo
contendo quantidade de reuniões do CA, quantidade de membros do CA,
percentual de ações do acionista controlador, independência executiva do
conselho e setor, se intensivo em conhecimento, foi significativo [X(2)(5) igual

(54por cento de acerto). / [en] The present study aimed to identify attributes of the board and characteristics of the company associated with a strategic board of directors. Situated in the Brazilian governance context, it searchs for shed
some light on some of the emergent questions related to an innovative strategic council, how to identify it, which are the attributes related to a strategic council, which company characteristics may be associated to a strategic board and also check if groups of companies with strategic board reaches superior performance. Through a content analysis of 6,985 agenda items, of 3,084 board meetings, of 325 publicly traded Brazilian companies in 2018, a four levels rating system of strategic content of board discussion
topics was created, once the content analysis involved not an a priori category classification system (FRANCO, 2007), although it used to a large extent Clarke (2018)s model regarding the functions of the board of directors. It was found that, in most Brazilian companies, there were meetings of forward-looking thematic discussions. The average strategic content rate of the 2018 board meetings of the companies formed the dependent variable that was then used in the quantitative approach of the study. Applying a multivariate regression technique, we found that the number of board meetings, the number of board members, the number of independent directors, the female presence in the board, the average board age and the sector, if it is knowledge intensive, are predictors of the strategic content of the board of directors. With the aid of the clustering technique, three groups of companies related to strategic boards were found: (1) legal boards, (2) mature strategic boards and (3) emerging strategic boards. It was found that the two groups of the strategic boards outperformed the group of legalistic boards measured in terms of averade return on assets of 2017 and 2018. Finally, using the binomial logistic regression technique, we found that the model containing number of board meetings, number of board members, percentage of shares of the controlling shareholder, executive independence of the board and sector, if it was knowledge intensive, was
significant [X(2) (5) equal 75.580; p less than 0.001; R(2) Nagelkerke equal 0.326] and presented
a 17 per cent increase (71per cent of correctness) in relation to the null model (54 per cent of correctness).
