Mobilização e modernização nos cerrados piauienses: formação territorial no império do agronegócio / Mobilization and modernization in the \"Cerrados Piauienses\": territorial formation no agribusiness´empire

Alves, Vicente Eudes Lemos 13 February 2007 (has links)
This study analyzes the new modernization processes raised at the cerrados in Piauí due to modern agriculture. This movement started in the early 1970´s together with the first cattle breeding and reforesting projects developed through state financial and fiscal incentives. These projects only started to consolidate around 1990´s as the displacement of people and agricultural business firms from the south of Brazil (?sulistas?) to Piauí increased. The result of this land occupation was the appropriation of vast plain plateaus escheated lands of communitarian use that turned to be commodities. These lands were valorized by housing market. Signs of these changes appeared both on the agricultural space, transformed by means of applying scientific and technological objects, which turned the space homogeneous, and the city space, that gained new shape and functionalities. Piaui´s southern urban and rural areas reveal contradictory process of this recent modernization, transformed simultaneously into spaces where richness and crisis manifestations are both produced. While innovation accelerating the production rhythm and the circulation of goods under global companies´ leadership is announced, the expropriation of peasants groups stands out. Now their possibilities only depend on selling their task force in the new corporate farming business in extremely hard working conditions or installing themselves at the poor outskirts of this agricultural business related cities. Furthermore, natural environment?s worsening conditions are a result of modern agricultural technology at those gerais. These conditions affect local ecosystems and add up another element to the crisis. In this way we intend to point out that the modernization of the cerrados piauienses is generating a socio-spatial imbalance, which configures itself as an essentially excluding process.

Storage Returns of Indiana Corn and Soybeans

Aaron Jonathan Edwards (6615695) 15 May 2019 (has links)
Most of Indiana corn and soybeans are placed into storage at harvest time to be delivered to market at a later date. Indiana farmers have many options regarding how and when to sell this grain. The present research addresses the issue of how to maximize the expected net returns to storage. The three central questions are: (i) which crop produces better returns? (ii) should the grain be stored unpriced or hedged using futures? and (iii) how long should grain be stored? Expected net returns for corn were maximized by storing unpriced until spring. However, unpriced corn storage provided positive returns less frequently than storage hedging. Unpriced soybean storage was better on average, and also produced positive returns more frequently than storage hedging. Returns were higher for soybeans than corn.

January 2019 (has links)
A partir... In this same scenario, the media are inserted, strengthened by social transformations, the breaking of physical and symbolic barriers, social processes characterized by constant changes, such as migratory ones, which have played a fundamental role in forming not only opinions and as a source of information, but as a block or passage to resistance. Under a critical view of the model of cultural globalization, we insert media education, which seeks to work with young people, through proposals for an intercultural education, criticality with the media and creativity to develop in a participatory and liberating way their identity as citizens. The work was motivated to find out if in fact the media education as a teaching methodology can assist in the learning process of the students through an intercultural view. The work has theoretical and methodological support developing the aforementioned themes and proposed the planning, execution and evaluation of activities with students of the first year high school of the Professor Souza Nilo State School, from the public school in the city of Itanhandu, from an intercultural perspective of agribusiness, a branch of vital importance to the Brazilian reality.

Pacanaro, Yves Gimenes January 2019 (has links)
(Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: The purpose of this paper was to analyze the working capital dynamics of agribusiness companies belonging to the Agriculture, Sugar and Alcohol, and Meat and Derivatives segments, listed in Brazil, Bolsa e Balcão (B3) in the face of the 2015 Brazilian economic crisis. In order to achieve the objective of this project, an analysis was made of the financial statements for the 2011/2018 period of the 14 companies belonging to the mentioned segments. Such analysis was based on the use of the Fleuriet Model, or even referred to as the Dynamic Financial Analysis Model. The methodology used had a quantitative approach of descriptive character. To fulfill the purpose proposed in this work, a Cluster Analysis was performed using Ward's Agglomerative Hierarchical Method, then Hypothesis Tests for Differences Mean were performed using the Wilcoxon Test statistical technique. The results pointed to a non-universal change in the way companies associate. Thus, it was possible to infer, ceteris paribus, that the Brazilian economic crisis influenced the form of association of the companies analyzed, due to positive and negative variations in the cash balance. While the organizations Biosev, Excelsior and SLC Agrícola joined the first cluster during the financial crisis period, due to the evolution in their respective cash balances; Pomifrutas and Terra Santa companies showed a worsening in the average of the amounts related to this variable. / Mestre

The WTO, Agribusiness, and the Third Food Regime

Wilhelm-Ross, Samuel January 2011 (has links)
Food regime theory emerged in the 1980s as a tool to delineate the history of the modern food system. Scholars insist that we have arrived at the third and putative corporate food regime that is dominated by a select group of agribusiness corporations. The corporate food regime"s ascent to dominance will be presented here as a product of the realization of neoliberal trade policies at the urging of the World Trade Organization. Initially promising development to fledgling countries, the WTO"s forays into agriculture have amounted to nothing less than a catastrophe for the Global South. The hope that developing countries would be able to trade their way out of debt has long been abandoned, and the gap between the developed and developing world has only been further exacerbated as a result of trade liberalization. Worse yet, the WTO"s Agreement on Agriculture was intentionally littered with loopholes that allow Northern countries to egregiously subsidize crops that are then exported off to Southern markets at artificially low prices, crippling local producers in the process. Through examining import and export flows in the Global South since the trade agreement, this cruel feature of the modern food system will become evident as will the subsequent jump in agribusiness" profits amid the direst of...

Atilio Vega Moreno, Guido January 2010 (has links)
Rural agro-industry gives added value to peasant’s agricultural production. In Peru, many small farmers from highland areas are linked in this activity as a means of subsistence. These farmers, since ancient times, have performed all their field activities in balance with nature. In fact, the rural agribusiness has mostly been developed under agroecological principles. The main objective of this thesis the description of the characteristics of rural agribusiness and how this activity based on agroecology contributes to the conservation of the environment in the highland areas of Peru. The situation of rural agribusiness is reviewed from the global and local context of organic agriculture. It has also been taken the region of Lurin River Basin as a case study, where environmental, productive, marketing and institutional characteristics are described. Moreover, a study of the current and future situation using the scenario methods, and an analysis of sustainability is carried out for an organic farmers’ organization called “Association of Ecological Producers of the Lurin River Basin ‘Monticielo’”. Results of this thesis indicate that rural agribusiness in highland areas of Peru, specifically in the Lurin River Basin, is crucial sector it contributes to food security and generating income for rural families, conserve biodiversity and farmers` traditional knowledge has been used to address emerging issues of climate change. However, the main problems facing small producers are productivity, technology, marketing and organization. In the scenario analysis it has been identified that "Organic-point of sale" scenario can become a marketing point of eco-business efficiently, which could increase sales and improve the quality of life for farmers and for the environmental conservation. In conclusion, being closely linked to ecological farming practices, rural agribusiness is an important tool that contributes to the welfare of rural small farmers and environmental conservation.
