Assessing Linguistic Proficiency -The Issue of Syntactic Complexity

Rönnkvist, Patrik January 2021 (has links)
This study investigates the syntactic complexity of the example texts used as guides forassessment in the national tests of the Swedish upper secondary school courses English 5 andEnglish 6. It is guided by two research questions: (1) Is there a progression of increasedcomplexity between the grades assigned to the example texts, and, if so, is any specificmeasure of syntactic complexity more strongly linked to a higher grade than the rest? (2) Isthere a progression of increased complexity between the two courses, and, if so, how doesthis progression manifest itself? A set of 14 quantitative measures of syntactic complexity asidentified by the L2 Syntactic Complexity Analyzer (L2SCA) are examined to answer thesequestions. The majority of the differences between the grades and/or courses represented areshown to be statistically insignificant, and the few instances of statistical significance likelyoccurred either due to a small sample size or due to a questionable tendency of L2SCA whendealing with run-on sentences. In the end, syntactic complexity as expressed through the 14measures seems to be a poor indicator of why a text received a certain grade in either of thetwo represented courses.

Development of Ultra-Wide band 500 MHz – 20 GHz Heterogeneous Multi-Layered Phantom Comprises of Human Skin, Fat and Muscle Tissues for Various Microwaves Based Biomedical Application

Joseph, Laya January 2019 (has links)
In biomedical applications realistic phantoms are becoming more useful for validation and testing of precursor systems. These artificial phantoms require stable and flexible tissue-mimicking materials with realistic dielectric properties in order to properly model human tissues. We have fabricated a low-water-content, low cost, mechanically and electrically stable, good shelf life and multi-layered heterogeneous phantom consisting of skin, fat and muscle tissues. We have chosen semi-solid type phantom for each tissue layer. The size and thickness of the each layer is chosen based on the average thickness of human tissue. Altering the ingredient composition wisely we can alter its dielectric properties also. By reason of no osmosis occurrence, the tissues can be employed to construct heterogeneous phantoms or even anthropomorphic phantoms without causing any changes in geometry or electrical properties. The performance of the fabricated phantom is carried out using an open-ended coaxial slim probe system by Agilent Technologies. Nearly all previous studies were based on very high frequency( VHF), so we present ultra-wide band (UWB), 500MHz-20GHz multilayered phantoms. We have measured our phantom after 2 month time period and we got quite good results for the dielectric properties without having significant variations. Thus, our fabricated sets of ATE phantom have good long lasting properties with good physical and dielectric stability.

Verification of Third Party Components to The Road Telematics Communicator

Mantena, Shanmukha Raju January 2020 (has links)
The Road Telematics Communicator (RTC) as it is called in Scania. It is the device responsible to keep the vehicle connected and send the vehicle data to the off-board system. It uses data from different sources such as GNSS signals, CAN signal, and wireless Telecom signals. Connected vehicles provide real-time information on positioning, fuel consumption, and vehicle diagnostics. There are acceptance and regression test suites that verify the functionality of RTC. Third-party components such as the GNSS module are not a part of the tests due to technical limitations. Hence RTC lacks automated tests for important features. Due to the lack of complete verification in automated test suites, time-consuming tests must be performed on the road. And trouble reports from the field are difficult to analyze. This thesis provides testing the location accuracy of the GNSS module in vehicles used for telematics applications in the automotive industry, by using a GPS vector signal generator in a controlled lab environment. GNSS consists of GPS, GALILEO, GLONASS, BEIDOU. We are using GPS in this research. The GPS receiver is put under test in a controlled lab environment for testing the Time to First Fix, Location accuracy of GPS receiver, and analyzing the performance with the given inputs. Test cases were created similar to field tests on the signal generator. At this stage, an experiment is performed on the GPS receiver which is connected to the signal generator via RF connector and to a computer via LAN. An input data is sent to the signal generator in the form of SCPI commands. The signal generator processes these commands and generates a signal accordingly. This generated signal is fed to the receiver. With the help of a signal generator, we can generate fields like inputs and verify the behavior of the GPS module. By verifying the behavior of the module, we can develop test cases that show the functionality of the receiver.

Dodatečný ohřev plazmatu výkonovým svazkem atomů deuteria na tokamaku COMPASS / Additional plasma heating of tokamak plasma by powerful beam of deuterium atoms on the COMPASS tokamak

Bogár, Klára January 2021 (has links)
Two neutral beam injectors (NBIs) were installed on the COMPASS tokamak as a main upgrade after its move from the UK to Prague. The thesis deals with general experimental specifications of additionally heated plasmas by the NBI under the wide range of conditions on the COMPASS tokamak. The geometrical parameters of the beams are determined from the spectro- scopic measurements. Consequently, the NBI power passing through the narrow duct connecting NBI and tokamak chamber is investigated. The passing fraction of the NBI power is confirmed by the power balance analysis, which provides information about the delivered power into the plasma based on the plasma parameters. Once the delivered power is well known a description of beams interaction with plasma via global parameters such as the plasma temperatures, the plasma density, the energy confinement time and neutron yield is given. It is shown, that the NBIs heat mostly ions, which can reach ∼ 1 keV in the plasma core. Moreover, the impact of the fast ions presence on the commonly observed MHD activities, the sawtooth instability and the edge localized modes (ELMs), is discussed and compared with results from other tokamaks. The sawtooth period is prolonged by the influence of the NBI from 2 ms up to 4.5 ms. The knowledge of the NBI passing power into...

HOTDETEKTERING MED LOGGANALYS : En jämförelse mellan Graylog och ManageEngine Eventlog Analyzer

Ahmed, Said Hassan January 2023 (has links)
