[en] ENTR ACTES: AN INVESTIGATION REGARDING THE EXHIBITION ARCHITECTURE OF LINA BO BARDI / [pt] ENTREATOS: SOBRE ARQUITETURA EXPOSITIVA DE LINA BO BARDI

THAIZA SENNA DE FREITAS LIGEIRO DE CARVALHO 07 June 2019 (has links)
[en] The art exhibitions projects conceived by Lina Bo Bardi are an important part of her professional trajectory. Taking Bahia no Ibirapuera (1959) as a start point, this present work analyzes the art exhibition path traced by her until Entreato para crianças (1985). Based on the analysis of texts, drawings, photographs, reports and the historical-social context, this dissertation investigates how the subjects, approaches and the spatial conceptions were transformed during this trajectory. Three axes were found. The first one is focused on the insertion of the regional art in the exhibition space, and on the indistinction between popular and erudite; the second one is based on the bond between art and work; the third one is expressed by the ludic experimentation in the exhibition space. The role practiced by Lina Bo Bardi transcended the expographic project, because besides being completely involved in most of these exhibitions, she also used the exhibition space as a place for cultural, social and political discussions.

Exposição e texto na arte contemporânea / Exhibition and text on contemporary art

Gurgel, Thais Macedo 27 September 2013 (has links)
The texts shown in art exhibitions are important resources for mediation. The present thesis overlooks this textual production, which is usually written by the curators and is commonly the main source of communication between the exhibit producer and its audience. In particular, there is a concern on understanding the dynamics provided by the use of texts in contemporary art exhibitions, which aesthetic response requires viewer participation. From exhibitions and texts taken as examples, we seek to outline the most common forms of writing in art spaces, as well as content patterns. A historical overview of the use of texts in museums in different parts of the world also adds to place the demands for this textual production and its use over time. Finally, it is suggested that text interacting with other elements in the exhibition room express an understanding of the educational role of the exhibition, considering the way to address the spectator.

Tunér, Anni January 2018 (has links)
This is a study about art exhibitions and the flow of spatial movement within them. The thesis of this work is how to create an active and guiding flow of movement within a smaller exhibition space. Using the methods Timing and Tracking and Spatial Analysis, three different art exhibitions in smaller spaces are studied to see how the flow of spatial movement is created. Former studies about spatial movement and how form and space affect visitors’ behavior by Wineman and Peonies (2010) and Ching and Binggeli (2012) have been taken into account for this study.  The results of studying three exhibitions; Paper Art, Nya Målningar and Kemiska Undersökningar, show that the use of walls and furniture positively affects an active and guiding movement even within the limitations of smaller exhibition spaces.  Three different examples have been created to show how an active and guiding spatial movement within smaller spaces may be achieved. These examples also visuality represent the spatial movement within a smaller exhibition space. The examples are created in the form of floor-plans and coloured sketches to demonstrate how exhibition designers and artists could effectively use smaller spaces for art exhibitions.

Being for others : critical reflections on the stranger, the estranged and the self in participatory art / Ineffaceable

Munro, Samantha Fawn January 2015 (has links)
By referring to established concepts and theories which contemplate our experiences in relation to others and space, this thesis examines the interactions and responses of an audience during various participatory artworks. I draw upon Jean-Paul Sartre’s Being and Nothingness and Elizabeth Grosz’ Architecture From The Outside: Essays on Virtual and Real Space in order to understand our interactions with other people, our interactions inside an environment, and the objects and ceremonies we use during these interactions. I align these experiences with the methods which are employed to anticipate and create the interactions between an audience and a participatory artwork. Our daily interactions can be considered a frame that an artist shapes for their represented situation to allow, provide and guide an audience towards their possibilities for movements and actions within a participatory artwork. The interactions that occur in participatory art are done in relation to others and include groups of people interacting with each other rather than an individual disembodied experience. I refer to Claire Bishop in her book, Artificial Hells, and Nicolas Bourriaud in Relational Aesthetics in order to define participatory art. In defining participatory art I focus on the idea that participation is a social activity without which the artwork does not function or exist. I unravel Brett Bailey’s Exhibit A, Anthea Moys Anthea Moys vs The City of Grahamstown and Christian Boltanski’s Personnes in terms of the frame they use to construct participation and interaction. I refer to my own exhibition Ineffaceable as an exploration of these frames which encourage participation. The inside and the outside are a constant theme throughout this thesis and my exhibition. This thematic re-emerges in relation to a number of opposing and fluctuating dynamics: the self and the other; the object and the subject; familiarity and strangeness; the participator and the spectator; the immersive and the disembodied; and the artwork and the audience. Participatory art has not been sufficiently explored particularly in South Africa with South African case studies and particularly from a practical standpoint that includes methodologies for creating participation. This thesis hopes to enrich and contribute to the contemplations on participatory art by focusing on our interactions with others.
