El presente estudio es fruto de una reflexión y análisis acerca de la producción del escritor brasileño Autran Dourado teniendo en cuenta el diálogo que se establece con la obra del autor español Miguel de Cervantes, sumándose la preocupación por encontrar las correspondencias no solo temáticas sino también poéticas de estos dos autores. Se inicia con un breve recorrido histórico y literario, presente en la formación de ambos autores, con la perspectiva de delinear un rasgo común entre ellos, es decir, el de escritores críticos. A su vez, esta aproximación desencadena el estudio de lo que habría sido la biblioteca cervantina de Autran Dourado. Por otro lado, se llevó a cabo el levantamiento de la fortuna crítica del escritor brasileño tomando como foco, sobre todo, los trabajos académicos sobre su obra y teniendo en cuenta cuarenta años de incesante labor de producción. A partir de estos datos, se vuelve fundamental el análisis del diálogo intertextual establecido entre las obras de los dos autores, con la inquietud de destacar coincidencias temáticas y procedimientos similares en la construcción de personajes, como en el caso de la trilogía perteneciente a la saga familiar de los Honório Cota de Autran Dourado y Don Quijote de la Mancha de Miguel de Cervantes y, por otro lado, las inquietudes poéticas de ambos autores a partir de un estudio sobre sus respectivos procesos de reescritura. / This study is the result of a reflection and analysis about the production of the Brazilian writer Autran Dourado highlighting the dialogue that it establishes with the work of the Spanish author Miguel de Cervantes, searching not only for thematic but also for poetic correspondences between both writers. It starts with a brief historic and literary trajectory present in their works aiming at delineating a common characteristic shown by them, that of critic writers. This comparison leads to the study of Autran Dourado´s Cervantine library. On the other hand, a research on the criticism on Autran Dourado´s complete work was carried out, focusing mainly on the academic studies about his work taking into consideration his 40 year literary production. Regarding such data, the analysis of an intertextual dialogue established between the works by Dourado and Cervantes becomes fundamental, distinguishing the thematic coincidences and similar proceedings in the construction of their characters, as in the trilogy centered in the saga of Honório Cota´s family by Autran Dourado and Don Quijote de La Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes, as well as the poetic anxiety of both authors starting from a study about their re-writing processes.

Constatando que a fortuna crítica identifica a relação do romance com o mito de Hipólito e Fedra através de relações de analogias, parte-se da premissa de que uma análise do mítico na literatura deve ser realizada primeiramente através da compreensão de como as imagens simbólicas estão expressas dentro da obra de arte. Para tanto, utilizou-se do referencial teórico do imaginário encontrado na psicologia das profundezas de Carl Gustav Jung, na filosofia da imaginação material de Gaston Bachelard e na antropologia do imaginário de Gilbert Durand. De tais posturas teóricas derivam um método de crítica do imaginário na literatura, conhecido como mitocrítica, que propõe analisar sincronicamente uma narrativa para compreender os conteúdos repetitivos que se relacionam no fio diacrônico do discurso. Com tal abordagem, foi possível identificar a organização das principais imagens do romance, consteladas em mitemas, até chegar ao “segundo texto”, a dinâmica do mito literário presente na narrativa. Ao compreender o núcleo mítico da obra, seu sermo mythicus, as relações com a história de Hipólito e Fedra foram complexificadas, através da percepção de que o livro realiza um diálogo vivo com o mito arcaico, dando significado existencial a uma narrativa sobre o tabu do incesto que toca questões simbólicas da relação entre o homem, o tempo e a morte. / This study proposes an analysis of Os sinos da agonia imagery, a novel originally published in 1974 and written by Autran Dourado (1926- 2012). Noticing that the critics identify a relationship between the novel and the myth of Hippolytus and Phaedra through relations of analogy, we start from the premise that an analysis of the mythic literature should be performed first by the understanding of how symbolic images are expressed within the work of art. For this, we used the theoretical references of imagery found in the depth psychology of Carl Gustav Jung, the philosophy of Gaston Bachelard’s material imagination and Gilbert Durand’s anthropology of imagery. Such theoretical position derive a method of critical imagination on literature known as mythocritcs which aims to analyze a narrative synchronously in order to understand the repetitive content that relate the diachronic thread of the discourse. With this approach, it was possible to identify the organization of the main images in this novel gathered in mythemes until it reaches the “second text”, the dynamics of literary myth in this narrative. By understanding the mythic core of this work, its sermo mythicus, the relations with the story of Hippolytus and Phaedra were made more complex through the perception that the book makes a lively dialogue with the archaic myth, giving existential meaning to a narrative about the taboo of incest which deals with symbolic issues of the relationship among man, time and death.

Entre os diversos assuntos explorados nessas obras, a temática da decadência tem sido um motivo recorrente. É sob esse aspecto que se insere a presente dissertação, a qual possui o objetivo de examinar como se configura o tema da decadência nos romances Absalão, Absalão! (1936), de William Faulkner, e Ópera dos mortos (1967), de Autran Dourado, levando em consideração a influência das transmissões transgeracionais e o peso simbólico do passado sobre os integrantes das dinastias Sutpen e Honório Cota. Para atingirmos esse objetivo, procuramos investigar o valor simbólico atribuído à figura paterna presente nos romances, enfatizando o seu papel na constituição da estrutura e na formação da identidade familiar; examinar as relações intersubjetivas e as transmissões comportamentais entre ascendentes e descendentes; analisar o papel da memória familiar e os efeitos causados pela compulsão dos descendentes em preservar as heranças ancestrais; e, por fim, verificar o modo como as memórias familiares se articulam na configuração espacial, mais precisamente na casa, como vestígios mnemônicos que asseguram a presença dos mortos e apontam para a apreensão do passado frente às transformações históricas e sociais. Para tanto, nossa pesquisa está ancorada nos pressupostos teóricos desenvolvidos por Assmann (2011), Benjamin (2012; 2013), Candau (2011), Freud (1996) e Penso, Costa e Ribeiro (2008). Os resultados deste trabalho evidenciam que as transmissões transgeracionais e o peso simbólico do passado exercem uma forte ação negativa sobre as personagens. Além disso, a decadência que acomete as duas famílias funciona como uma representação metafórica e metonímica que correlaciona a trajetória de ascensão e queda das duas dinastias com o esfacelamento das sociedades às quais aludem as narrativas. / The literary field has become a fruitful ground for the representation and elaboration of narratives which attempt to reflect upon family relations. Among the diversity of motifs presented in those productions, the theme of decay has been a recurrent topic. In light of this, the present research aims at analyzing how the theme of the declining family is portrayed in William Faulkner’s Absalom, Absalom! (1936) and Autran Dourado’s The voices of the dead (1967) taking into account the influence on transgeracional transmission and the symbolic burden of the past over the Sutpen’s and the Honório Cota’s dynasty members. In order to reach the objective above, we seek to investigate the symbolic value of the father figure within the novels, focusing on his role in the constitution of the structure and formation of the family; to examine the relation among the family members as well as the transmission of behavior between ancestors and descendants; to analyze the role played by the family memory and the effects caused by the descendants’ compulsion to preserve their inheritance; and, lastly, to verify in what way the family memories are embodied in the spatial configuration, more precisely the house, as a mnemonic trace that keeps the presence of the dead and reflects the view of the past towards historical and social transformations. To this end, we based our analysis on the studies developed by Assmann (2011), Benjamin (2012; 2013), Candau (2011), Freud (1996), Penso, Costa and Ribeiro (2008). The results show that the transgeracional transmission and the burden of the past hold a remarkable negative power over the characters. Furthermore, it may be concluded that the decay which tears the families apart function as a metaphorical and metonymic representation that associate the rise and fall of both dynasties to the process of destruction and transformation of the societies described in the novels.
