NAVIGATION AND PLANNED MOVEMENT OF AN UNMANNED BICYCLE

Baaz, Hampus January 2020 (has links)
A conventional bicycle is a stable system given adequate forward velocity. However, the velocity region of stability is limited and depends on the geometric parameters of the bicycle. An autonomous bicycle is just not about maintaining the balance but also controlling where the bicycle is heading. Following paths has been accomplished with bicycles and motorcycles in simulation for a while. Car-like vehicles have followed paths in the real world but few bicycles or motorcycles have done so. The goal of this work is to follow a planned path using a physical bicycle without overcoming the dynamic limitations of the bicycle. Using an iterative design process, controllers for direction and position are developed and improved. Kinematic models are also compared in their ability to simulate the bicycle movement and how controllers in simulation translate to outdoors driving. The result shows that the bicycle can follow a turning path on a residential road without human interaction and that some simulation behaviours do not translate to the real world.

Att få cykeln att rulla året om : En fallstudie av Karlstads kommuns cykelplanering / To make use of the bicycle all year around : A case study about bicycle planning in Karlstad

Andersson, Hanna, Helgesson, Elin January 2022 (has links)

Rolling resistance during cornering - Impact of lateral forces for heavy-duty vehicles / Rullmotstånd på kurvig väg - Inverkan av laterala krafter för tunga fordon

Olofson, Helena January 2015 (has links)
We consider first the single-track bicycle model and state relations between the tires’ lateral forces and the turning radius. From the tire model, a relation between the lateral forces and slip angles is obtained. The extra rolling resistance forces from cornering are by linear approximation obtained as a function of the slip angles. The bicycle model is validated against the Magic-formula tire model from Adams. The bicycle model is then applied on an optimization problem, where the optimal velocity for a track for some given test cases is determined such that the energy loss is as small as possible. Results are presented for how much fuel it is possible to save by driving with optimal velocity compared to fix average velocity. The optimization problem is applied to a specific laden truck.

Bicycle Sharing in Developing Countries: : A proposal towards sustainable transportation in Brazilian median cities

Antunes Dias Batista, Edgard January 2010 (has links)
Bicycle-sharing programs are a new trend in urban transportation. The main difference of a bicycle-sharing program with a regular bicycle rental is that is possible to get a bicycle in one station and return it in any other station. There are many models of bicycle sharing, each model with its pros and cons. This study analyzes the bicycle-sharing models in order to build a proposal of a bicycle-sharing program suitable for Brazilian median cities. The study begins with an overview of bicycle transportation, followed by the analysis of different bicycle-sharing programs. The last chapter formulates a proposal of a bicycle-sharing program suitable for Brazilian median cities. This study uses both quantitative and qualitative methods. The analysis includes a case study on the bicycle-sharing program in Stockholm. This case study is based on interviews with the manager of the program in the company in charge, and with the responsible official in Stockholm municipality. A questionnaire was moreover handed out to users of the program. This case study is complemented with a questionnaire sent by email to managers of bicycle-sharing programs in some cities around the world, this in order to provide more examples on how bicycle sharing can be organized. Finally, another case study was carried out in a Brazilian median city in order to evaluate the local awareness concerning bicycle transport, and the possibility of implementing a bicycle-sharing program there. A questionnaire was handed out to a sample of the local population and an interview was made with the local transport authority. The analysis of all data results in a proposal for a bicycle-sharing program suitable for the Brazilian context. The proposal comprises the choices of bicycles, stations, equipment related to the hiring process and service vehicle. It includes a complete financial appraisal with the necessary capital for implementing and managing the program. It shows that it is possible to build an affordable bicycle-sharing program adapted to Brazilian median cities. The program will create job opportunities and can contribute to a changed view of bicycle transportation in these cities. The proposal could also be applied in countries with the same characteristics as Brazil.

Preference výběru velikosti ráfků kol u rekreačních a aktivních cyklistů / Wheel size selection preferences in recreational and active cyclists

Růžička, Michal January 2021 (has links)
Title: Wheel size selection preferences in recreational and active cyclists Goals: The goal of the thesis is to find relation between anthropometric and training indicators and selection of bicycle wheel size. Methods: The work is a descriptive study of a sample of randomly picked men and women. The research sample consisted of 250 respondents of the age range 13 - 77, with 106 women and 144 men. The research has been carried out in the form of semi structured website survey. The data have been categorized and analysed using basic statistical methods and the results were interpreted in the charts by the frequency of answers. Results: By analysing the survey results we have found the existing relation between the used wheel size and anthropometric and training indicators. With the growing height and weight of the respondents, the tendency to use 29" wheel size increases, as mentioned 81 respondents in height range 160-199 cm. The research has also shown that older riders use their bikes primarily to the cycling tours and that with the smaller wheel size. The size 29" use only eighteen respondents of the age range 40 - 77. The comparison of training indicators with the used wheel size has proven direct relation between effortfulness of the surface and used wheel size, when 2500 km and more will be...
