Compliance wth Basel Principles: Reexamination of the relationship between the Basel Core principles (BCP) and Bank Performance

Lyoo, Young-Jae 01 January 2011 (has links)
Podpiera (2006) found that compliance with Basel Core Principles (BCP) in banking provisions has a direct positive effect on bank performance. Using Non-performing Loans (NPL) ratio and Net-Interest Margin (NIM) as indicators of bank performance, his panel data from 1998 to 2002 with 65 different countries proved that higher compliance results in better bank performance and soundness. This paper is a reexamination of this relationship in a more recent time period from 2006 to 2010 when another global financial crisis took place. I found evidence that the positive relationship between BCP compliance and bank performance continues to be true.

Hur väljer du bank? : En studie om kundens val av bank och kundlojalitet gentemot banken

Gorevska, Tanja, Azad, Lavan January 2013 (has links)
Problem formulation: What factors influence the customer’s choice of bank? How is the customer loyalty towards the customer’s current bank? Purpose: The main purpose is to see what factors are definitive to the customer’s choice of bank and how strong the customer loyalty is towards the bank. It is also interesting to see whether customers who are satisfied with their current bank may still consider switching to something else. Method: The method is both qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection, with main focus on a quantitative survey. The qualitative part consists of interviews with a smaller focus group to receive a deeper insight of the consumer’s thoughts regarding the main purpose and problem formulations. Conclusion: The main factor when choosing a bank is recommendations from family or friends. Other factors that also influences the customer’s choice of bank is mortgage, interest rates and great customer service. Many consumers consider themselves to be more loyal than they really are, and demonstrate satisfaction rather than customer loyalty.

The impact of networking on access to bank finance for SMEs : Comparison of Iran and Sweden

Heshmati, Nastaran January 2013 (has links)
Access to financial resources is considered to be the most constraining feature for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Many researchers describe networking as an essential factor for accessing a bank loan as SMEs seek to access to resources for development. Thus, the objective of this paper is, describe the network impact on accessing a bank loan in Iran and Sweden as well as the similarities and differences in the Iranian and Swedish lending process. Lack of literature in this field was the main reason for choosing one developed and one developing country. Based on the theory which is developed by the author, the impact of networking on accessing a bank loan is examining. Multiple case studies were implemented to gather the necessary information. By interviewing personnel in eight banks in Iran and Sweden and eight SMEs in both countries, this study was conducted. The results reveal that social and official networking could provide easier access to a bank loan in both countries. In addition, only in Sweden would networking with a manager of customer influence the outcome. Further, the results indicate that the principle of the lending process is the same in both countries. The main differences in the lending process are included the interest rate, the number of decision makers and supporting different sectors.

A study of e-banking innovation with NEBIC Theory

Pan, Hsien-ning 16 August 2006 (has links)
The competition in domestic money market is getting intense, and there are fewer differences between the service items operated by various banks. The financial industry does everything possible to combine with various channel service of bank by utilizing information technology. Besides introducing and developing various kinds of new derivatives, also actively utilizes the new technical technology to establish various kinds of service channels, allows the client to elastically apply various kinds of service channels provided by them, and enables the client to establish a permanent loyalty and trust with the bank. As for the present development of service channels in financial industry, the traditional brick-and-mortar banks, the ATM and unmanned branch are the familiar service channels, otherwise the Internet banking and Mobile banking are the emerging services provided by the financial industry in recent years. Generally speaking, except for the traditional brick-and-mortar banks, all the other service channels utilize the equipment of information technology to replace the traditional manpower, and provide the financial service. Based on the NEBIC theory, the purpose of this study is to discuss the reformation and value initiated by the financial industry choosing information technology, and defines the core developing capability for the financial industry.

The Comparison of Operation Strategy in Hong Kong between Domestic Banks and Foreign Banks

Hsin-yi, Chang 16 June 2007 (has links)
Due to the rampant growth in the number and high similarity of banking activities, the competition among national banks has become vigorous in recent years. At the same time the foreign banks, with advantage of their international experience in diversified operation and management, bring in even more contesting pressure on the domestic banks. Therefore, expanding business arena overseas has become an alternative policy for domestic banks. Presently the overseas branches of our domestic banks are mainly located in the Asia-Pacific countries, such as Hong Kong, Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia and Singapore. The current studies were thus conducted to compare operation strategies between domestic banks and foreign banks in Hong Kong, where our domestic banks have established numerous branches. A general introduction was made about the banking development in Hong Kong area in the first part of my study. Two banks were selected for case studies: Fubon Bank Hong Kong (representative of domestic bank) and CitiBank Hong Kong (representative foreign bank). The similarity/differences and respective advantages/disadvantages were summarized in the aspects of their entry and market positioning strategies. The results showed no absolute ideal entry strategy, but rather depended on the market positioning and operation policy of the enterprise. In terms of products, both cases displayed similar product line while the novelty of products became the key to success. Nevertheless, CitiBank prevailed as far as brand name is concerned. Both banks possess comparable network dimension in Hong Kong. Finally we suggest the following principles for those who intend to establish branches in Hong Kong, or destine China and other overseas territories through Hong Kong: (1) Acquire the small and medium banks in Hong Kong or create strategic alliances (2) Put equal emphasis on enterprise financing and consumer financing (3) Take advantage of local resources and fulfill local needs (4) Integrate financial information of Mainland China and Hong Kong
