Questioning the Meaning of Authenticity in Martin Heidegger's Being and TimeLiwinski, Thomas 2011 August 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to clarify the meaning of authenticity in Martin Heidegger's Being and Time. This is done first by situating the meaning of authenticity within the project as a whole, second through an exegesis of key parts of the text, and third, through an evaluation of certain scholarly commentaries. The ultimate aim is to argue against an interpretation of authenticity that carries an overly subjectivistic-individualistic connotation.
The second chapter seeks to provide the necessary context for the meaning of authenticity within the project of Being and Time as a whole. The goal is to make transparent the situation that Heidegger finds himself in when he conceives of the necessity for the concept of authenticity. Towards this end, it is necessary to highlight those commitments to phenomenology and hermeneutics that informs Heidegger's effort.
The third chapter first introduces the various characterizations of authenticity that Heidegger offers in Being and Time and the problematic meaning they suggest. Subsequently, the third chapter aims at creating a context for the meaning of those characterizations through an exegesis of the existentials of every existentiell disclosure of Dasein's being-in-the-world. By examining what it means for Dasein to be in the world in general, the goal is to narrow the scope of what authenticity can and cannot mean.
The fourth chapter surveys certain commentaries on authenticity that argue in favor of a subjectivistic-individualistic emphasis for the meaning of authenticity. The goal is to isolate the key points in Being and Time that are used in support of these interpretations, and subsequently to use the frameworks created in Chapters II and III to articulate why such commentaries are incorrect. Finally, Chapter IV gestures towards the right meaning of those descriptions of authenticity that carry a subjectivistic-individualistic connotation in order to place them in the right context.
The thesis concludes by suggesting that a non subjectivistic-individualistic interpretation fits more holistically with the other social-historical parts of the text, and that a subjectivistic-individualistic interpretation remains within the provenance of the kind of metaphysics that Heidegger wishes to distance himself from.

On the Perspective of Death in Yalom's Existential PsychotherapyChang, Yu-Fang 15 February 2011 (has links)
The research purposes of this thesis are to discuss the appropriateness of Yalom¡¦s use of the death issue in psychotherapy, and if the concept of death is different in Yalom, Heidegger and Freud. However, if we want to discuss this, we should discuss the correlation of Yalom¡¦s existential psychotherapy, Heidegger¡¦s philosophy and Freud¡¦s psychoanalysis of the unconscious. On the basis of these research purposes, the thesis will clarify these questions:
1. Is there any correlation of the death issue between Yalom¡¦s existential psychotherapy and Heidegger¡¦s ontology of being-toward-death?
2. Is there any correlation of the death issue between Yalom¡¦s existential psychotherapy and Freud¡¦s psychoanalysis of the unconscious?
3. After comparing these perspectives, this thesis will integrate the perspectives of death in Yalom¡¦s existential psychotherapy, Heidegger¡¦s ontology and Freud psychoanalysis of the unconscious to see if there is any special value in this dialogue frame. Also, what role does the death perspective play in connecting these three?
This thesis hopes to better understand one of the ultimate concerns of Yalom ¡V death ¡V through the different points of view in Heidegger and Freud, and to clarify the special effectiveness and restrictions of using this concept in existential psychotherapy.

Starting from an analysis of Heidegger’s consideration of the being-toward-death phenomenon, we establish a link between two fundamental axes for hermeneutic phenomenology: intentionality and facticity. We argue that the only possible comprehension of being-toward-death must to be understood before the modern object/ subject division and at the margin of any realistic or idealistic premises. Furthermore, we propose to understand the emergence of hermeneutics as an “immanent critique” to Husserlian transcendentalism. The ultimate purpose of this short paper is to bridge some gaps between transcendental phenomenology and hermeneutics.

Způsoby transcendence básnického bytí Pokus o hermeneutickou interpretaci (Mácha, Březina, Zahradníček) / Modes of Transcendence of the Poet's Existence: Towards a Hermeneutic Interpretation (Mácha, Březina, Zahradníček)Vrbková, Julie Lien January 2011 (has links)
The study Modes of Transcendence of the Poet's Existence: Towards a Hermeneutic Interpretation (Mácha, Březina, Zahradníček) follows the aim: interpretation of the distinctive form of existence in the medium of poetic words of the chosen poets (K. H. Mácha, O. Březina, J. Zahradníček) in the continuity of modern hermeneutic conceptions of poem's language (M. Heidegger, H. G. Gadamer, et al.) and of the philosophy of Romano Guardini and Søren Kierkegaard (especially in the interpretation of Zahradníček's poems). The first chapter deals with poet's existence as "different existence" from the point of view of his unique individual existence who transcends himself in the process of artistic creation. The second chapter copes with the effect of existential anxiety on poet's existence on the basis of Březina's essay Work of death and Heidegger's work Being and Time. The third chapter is dedicated to specific mode of poet's existence, melancholia, which is experienced in consequences of the threat of his existence. This modus of poet's existence is interpreted in the medium of poet's words in bases of Kierkegaard's notes, diaries and Guardini's studies. The final chapter of this study reflects the development of Zahradníček's early work's from the point of view of Kierkegaard's three modes of life. Lyric...

Previous issue date: 2015-03-27 / The thesis deals with the death theme in Martin Heidegger s philosophical thought, examining it in the different phases that constitute Heidegger s philosophical itinerary. At Being and time (Sein und Zeit), study published in 1927 and with which this philosofer inscribes his name among the classics of the contemporary thought, the notion of being toward death (Sein zum Tode) is delineated in the center of its existential analysis, projeced from the concern in investigating the meaning of the being. In Heidegger s writings prior to the mid thirty decade, belonging to the titled turning (Kehre), the existential analysis is replaced by the speculations about the history of the being in its veiling e unveiling. In the turning texts, the human being is thought in its correspondence to the destinations of the being, and the death is considered under a new philosophical point of view, revealing itself, under this prism, the mortals who are the men (die Sterblichen sind die Menschen). In concise terms, therefore, it can be claimed that the research renders problematic the relations between being toward death and the mortals who are the men, properly contextualized in the guidelines of Heidegger s thought. In this perspective, it is achieved through an investigative and expository plan whose starting point, expressed in its first chapter, is the reflection about the Dasein as being toward death, trying to understand it in the range of the fundamental ontology. The second chapter intends to identify the tendencies of Heidegger s philosophy under the influx of the turning, featuring its interpretation metaphysics history as forgetfulness of the being and its explicit pretension of transcending the metaphysics, with the restitution of the human essence in its belonging to the being. The third chapter starts from Heidegger s declaration that the essence of the modern technic expresses the conclusion of the metaphysics as a complete hiding of the being, to identify the condition of the human being in the interior of this process and confront it with the notion of being toward death. Chapter four talks about Heidegger s conception of the human essence in its correspondence to the reciprocity originated between being and nothing, the abyss to which belong the mortals who are the men. Lastly, prior to the work s conclusion, the fifth chapter makes the direct comparison between being toward death and the mortals who are the men, with the intention of demarcating their distinctions and articulations / A tese versa sobre a temática da morte no pensamento filosófico de Martin Heidegger, examinando-a nas diferentes fases que constituem o itinerário da filosofia heideggeriana.
