Methodology to develop lightweight facade design.

Luciana Alves de Oliveira 29 October 2009 (has links)
The facades are considered one of the most relevant building subsystems, contributing both to building valuation and its performance, and has a great importance concerning the sustainability. In addition, its execution and maintenance costs are expressive when compared to others subsystems. Because of its economical and technical importance, the façade technologies have been passing through constant evolution, for example the development of the lightweight façades system that can be used in many construction segments, as commercial building construction and building renovation. Although the use of lightweight façades technologies is increasing worldwide, its application in Brazil requires more precise researches regarding design and construction management and also performance requirements, as security, thermal and acoustic isolation, energy efficiency, watertightness, durability and maintenance. In this context, the objective of this work is to propose a methodology to develop the design process of the lightweight facade system for office buildings, applicable either to construction either to building renovation, discussing management and technology aspects. This work will be based on existing bibliography and on comparative study between Brazilian and French construction and renovation building practices. Thus, this work was divided in four stages: Brazilian studies; French studies; comparative analyses between these studies; and elaboration of the methodology. Concluding, the methodology proposed considers some aspects of the design process, particularized to lightweight façade technologies, taking into account management (agents, design management phases and aims, interfaces, technology selection and design and product critical analyses) and technological aspects (façade performance specifications).

Environmentální hodnocení rekonstrukcí obytných budov / Environmental Assessment of Residential Building Renovations

Struhala, Karel Unknown Date (has links)
One of the methods utilized for quantification of environmental impacts of human activities is Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA). This dissertation applies the method on renovations of residential buildings in the Czech Republic. The reason is high potential for environmental savings in existing building stock and lack of such works in the Czech conditions. Therefore the dissertation deals with LCA of building renovations to increase the knowledge in this field. Moreover it also questions and evaluates accuracy of building LCA in general to increase understanding of differences and inaccuracies that are often admitted, but seldom analysed in literature. The dissertation includes five LCAs of two case studies: a block-of-flats in Brno and a terraced house in a nearby village. First case study includes LCAs of the original state and renovation of the block-of-flats. The second case study describes LCAs of the original state, partial reconstruction or demolition and new construction of the terraced house. The LCAs are performed in two software tools: Eco-Bat 4.0 and GaBi 4. Detailed models of the evaluated buildings are based on available designs. Environmental impacts are calculated in four impact categories predefined in Eco-Bat 4.0 to enable comparison of results: Ecological Scarcity, Cumulative Energy Demand (or Primary Energy in GaBi 4), Non-Renewable Energy and Global Warming Potential. The accuracy of the performed LCAs is tested in up to 324 different scenario combinations considering variable service life of building materials, construction waste quantities, waste management and transport distances. Generally, the results confirm environmental efficiency of building renovations. The renovation of block-of-flats results in 17.39% average reduction of total environmental impacts. Demolition and new construction of the terraced house result in 76.83% average savings. However, the variation of results is rather high due to tested scenario combinations: up to 56.06%.

Life Cycle Analysis and Life Cycle Cost Assessmentof a Single-family house Energy Renovation : Case study Växjö, Sweden

Abou Ghadir, Mohammed, Aghaei, Zahra January 2022 (has links)
Humans are increasingly influencing the climate and the temperature of the Earth by burning fossilfuels, destroying forests, and raising livestock. This adds massive amounts of greenhouse gases(GHG) to those already present in the atmosphere, amplifying the greenhouse effect andcontributing to global warming. The building sector accounts for a significant amount ofgreenhouse gas emissions. Decarbonizing the building industry can result in significant emissionreductions in the future years. Sweden's energy and climate goals have been updated, and some ofthem include reducing GHG emissions in the building sector, increasing energy efficiency, andmaking electricity production 100 percent renewable. In Sweden, energy renovations in singlefamily houses (SFHs) have the potential to reduce GHG emissions and improve energy efficiency, but the rate of energy renovations remains low because of financial, social, and behavioral barriers. This thesis aims to use LCA and LCC methodologies to assess energy renovations on SFH inVäxjö by combining various combinations of energy efficiency measures (EEMs) to reduce energyuse. The energy performance and eight different renovation scenarios using different EEMs havebeen evaluated for the selected single-family building. To evaluate building renovation measures,we developed a method based on life cycle assessment (LCA) and life cycle cost (LCC) thatincorporates building information modeling (BIM). Five different renovation measures werecombined in eight scenarios in this research, including different thicknesses of thermal insulationfor walls and roofs, triple-glazed windows, and doors with different U-values, air-source heatpumps, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, and solar photovoltaic. The present cost valuesof renovation measures over 50 years for LCC calculation were calculated. The global warmingpotential (GWP) of each renovation measure was estimated over 50 years using One-click LCA.According to the findings of this thesis project, scenarios 1 and 8 had the lowest and highestreductions in primary energy number, respectively. Scenarios 5, 6, 7, and 8 are the most costeffective in comparison to other scenarios. All scenarios resulted in a reduction in GWP impactfrom an LCA perspective in which scenario 7 resulted in the highest reduction in GWP impact.

Soot, Matthias, Dingerdissen, Ulrike, Eltner, Anette, Flatt, Holger, Fast, Harry, Loges, Sören, Ostrau, Stefan, Paffenholz, Jens-André, Weitkamp, Alexandra 18 October 2022 (has links)
