Previous issue date: 2011-04-01 / A city is made not only to streets, sidewalks, buildings, bridges and viaducts. The city is
also built by layers of sediment from the past that blend with layers of sediments
present. The city's it's art, it's sociability is written. The aim of this study is to analyze
how Mossor? historiographically the narrative is built by Lu?s da C?mara Cascudo.
With this objective, we divide the work into three chapters. At first, we investigate the
investment that the prefecture of the Mossor? city at the beginning of the forties, under
the administration of Dix-sept Rosado, held for the construction of what would be the
city's culture. A culture that was linked to the creation of a library, a museum, a
university, the completion of several lectures on the themes of the city, and writing the
history of Mossor?. The second chapter discusses the historical conditions of possibility
that made Lu?s da C?mara Cascudo of the town historian. In the last chapter, we show
how Mossor? was built by Cascudo from the specific analysis of the book Notas e
Documentos para a hist?ria de Mossor? (1955). We discuss the conditions for its
emergence, examining the interplay of interests that enabled its production / Uma cidade n?o ? feita somente de ruas, cal?adas, pr?dios, pontes e viadutos. A urbe ?
constru?da tamb?m pelas camadas de sedimentos do passado que se misturam com as
camadas dos sedimentos do presente. A cidade ? arte, ? sociabilidade, ? escrita. O
objetivo desse trabalho ? analisar como a cidade de Mossor? ? constru?da
historiograficamente pela narrativa de Lu?s da C?mara Cascudo. Com esse objetivo,
dividimos o trabalho em tr?s cap?tulos. No primeiro, investigamos os investimentos que
a prefeitura de Mossor? no in?cio dos anos quarenta, sob a administra??o de Dix-sept
Rosado, realizou para a constru??o do que seria a cultura da cidade. Uma cultura que

Previous issue date: 1992-09 / Coordena??o de Aperfei?oamento de Pessoal de N?vel Superior (CAPES) / From May 1987 to April 1988, a 9 station, seismic network was operated near the town of Jo?o C?mara (5?33'S, 35?51'W) in Rio Grande do Norte state, Brazil. The network was installed 6 months after the occurrence of a mb =5.1 earthquake. This thesis is concerned with the study of microearthquakes recorded by this network, which is in the Precambrian Borborema Province of northeast Brazilian shield.
The study revealed a remarkably well-defined distribution of seismicity associated with a simple fault structure. Hypocentre location was done using the HYPO71 program. The results of the analysis show that the fault is divided into two main segments with the same N37?E strike. The north segment is dipping 76?NW. The south segment is more nearly vertical, dipping about 82?NW and composed of three or more closely spaced almost parallel faults. A small gap and a low seismicity zone were found to separate the north and south segments. No events deeper than 9 km were found in the entire region studied. Examination of the epicentral map and corresponding vertical cross sections also revealed that events are not random but are clustered. Right lateral strike slip with a small normal component was inferred as the fault mechanism from composite fault plane solutions.
Off-fault events distant from the main fault were also observed, their pattern showing a classical example explained by the model of Das & Scholz as a consequence of off-fault shear stress increase after the occurrence of the main earthquake. Magnitude determinations for the events recorded by the telemetric network have been performed by developing a specific earthquake magnitude scale based on the duration of the observed seismic signal. A maximum likelihood estimate of b-value shows no significant variation during the recording period.
Shear wave splitting was observed in the J.C?mara region in all the selected events recorded by the three component station JCAZ. The polarization direction of the first split shear-wave arrival for those events lay in the north-south direction which does not agree with the premise of extensive dilatancy anisotropy for a maximum compressive stress in the east-west direction as inferred by the fault plane solutions. / Uma rede s?smica telem?trica composta por 9 esta??es, operou em torno da cidade de Jo?o C?mara (5?33'S, 35?51'W) no Estado do Rio Grande do norte, Brasil, entre os meses de maio de 1987 a abril de 1988. A rede foi instalada 6 meses depois da ocorr?ncia de um terremoto de magnitude mb=5.1. A presente tese analisa os dados de micro tremores registrados por esta rede, e que ocorreram na Prov?ncia Pr? cambriana da Borborema do nordeste brasileiro.
O estudo revelou uma distribui??o de sismos bem definida, associada a uma falha geol?gica de estrutura simples. A determina??o dos hipocentros foi feita usando-se o programa HYPO71. Os resultados das an?lise mostram que a falha ? dividida em dois grandes segmentos com a mesma dire??o de N37?E. O segmento norte da falha mergulha num ?ngulo de 76?NW. O segmento sul mergulha na mesma dire??o, num ?ngulo de 82?NW, e ? composto de tr?s ou mais falhas quase paralelas. Um pequeno vazio de epicentros, acompanhado de uma zona de baixa sismicidade, separam os dois grandes segmentos. N?o foi encontrado evento a profundidades maiores que 9 km. As an?lises dos mapas de epicentros, e das respectivas proje??es verticais, revelaram que os eventos est?o distribu?dos em v?rios aglomerados. O mecanismo de falha foi determinado como sendo do tipo transcorrente, dextr?giro com uma pequena componente normal.
Foram detectados micro tremores distantes, v?rios quil?metros da falha principal. Estes eventos s?o explicados pelo modelo cl?ssico de Das & Scholz, como conseq??ncia do aumento das tens?es de cisalhamento em regi?es fora da falha principal ap?s a ocorr?ncia do sismo principal. As magnitude dos micro tremores foram calculadas atrav?s da determina??o de uma escala espec?fica de magnitudes, baseadas na dura??o do sinal s?smico. Os valores determinados para o par?metro tect?nico b, da lei de Gutenberg e Richter, n?o mostraram varia??es significativas durante o per?odo de observa??es.
O fen?meno da dupla refra??o, nas ondas s?smicas de cisalhamento, foi observada na regi?o de Jo?o C?mara em todos os eventos selecionados e registrados pela esta??o de tr?s componentes JCAZ. As an?lises mostraram a dire??o norte-sul como sendo a dire??o de polariza??o da primeira onda separada, em desacordo com as previs?es da te?ricas da extensive dilatancy anisotropy.

Previous issue date: 2012-07-27 / Throughout its history the population of the region of Mato Grande, which includes the city of Jo?o C?mara, in Rio Grande do Norte, was subject to earthquakes. These events are caused by a geological fault, known as fault Samambaia. In the 1980s there was an intensification of this phenomenon culminating in an earthquake 5.1 on the Richter scale in the early hours of November 30, 1986, causing researchers from Brazil and other countries to shift to the region to conduct research in Seismology. During this period there was a strong interaction between scientists and local people. With the aim of studying how people experienced that moment that marked the history of the city of Jo?o C?mara, from interviews with some individuals who witnessed the incident, is that this research was developed. Taking as a theoretical approach to Science, Technology and Society (STS), aimed to thus carry the theme in a systematic way to the classroom, promoting ways to help teachers with the scientific training and guidance to students in case of occurrence of earthquakes / No decorrer de toda sua hist?ria a popula??o da regi?o do Mato Grande, que inclui a cidade de Jo?o C?mara, no Rio Grande do Norte, esteve sujeita a terremotos. Na d?cada de 1980 houve uma intensifica??o desse fen?meno que culminou com um terremoto 5,1 graus na Escala Richter na madrugada de 30 de novembro de 1986, fazendo com que pesquisadores brasileiros e de outros pa?ses se deslocassem para a regi?o no sentido de realizar pesquisas na ?rea de Sismologia. Nesse per?odo houve uma forte intera??o entre cientistas e a popula??o local. Previous issue date: 2008-09-23 / The present work makes some comments on the scattered productions of Gilberto Freyre and Lu?s da C?mara Cascudo, in the period which includes the early years of their intellectual performance, the second decade of the twentieth century. The corpus of the research is delimited on the texts published by Gilberto Freyre, from 1918 to 1926, which were gathered in the book Tempo de aprendiz (1979), and from the ones published by C?mara Cascudo in Natal local newpapers, such as A Imprensa and A Rep?blica, in 1924, 1927, 1928 and 1929. Concerning C?mara Cascudo s texts, the delimitations of these years is due to they had a relevant importance for the literary and cultural history of Rio Grande do Norte. The included discussions in these writers texts mainly happen around the modernist and regionalist ideas that happened restrictively in the Northeast region of Brazil, and are based on the relationships between literature and culture. Thus, the set of collaborations of both writers is useful as a sample of the intellectual thinking of the mentioned region. Besides, it is representative in the way the cultural debate got along in the country, which in turn, demanded the inclusion of the local realities in order to follow the renewing process of the worldwide thinking, and as matter of fact, arrange a new process in the Brazilian literary tradition. In this way, the study goals to set the positions taken by the two writers faced to the new challenges that the Brazilian reality of that moment was imposed on. The theoretical basis of this work is focused on the accumulated studies about the Brazilians modernism, regionalism and literature, pointing out the Candido s texts, (2006, 2004, 2002, 1995, 1993 and 1989), Schwarz s (1999, 1997a and 1997b), Perrone- Moys?s s (2007), Pallares-Burque s (2005), Azevedo s(1996), D Andrea s (1992), Ara?jo s (2006, 1998, 1997 and 1995), among other authors. Therefore, It is relevant the participation of both writers in that moment which highlights the renewing of the national thinking and the formation of the Brazilian cultural modernity, even the positions taken by them reveal, at times, different views concerning literature and tradition without being disagreeing, however / Este trabalho faz uma leitura da produ??o esparsa de Gilberto Freyre e Lu?s da C?mara Cascudo, no per?odo que compreende os anos iniciais da atua??o intelectual dos dois escritores, a segunda d?cada do s?culo XX. book, he studied and described a space - the Dutch Brazil - from a geographical and
historical perspective. To do this, he articulated both perspectives from the point of view of
his own reading of the History of Nordeste , establishing a dialogue with the
historiographical tradition of the study of the Dutch Brazil in Pernambuco. When portraying
the Dutch presence in Nordeste, Cascudo articulated a drama in which the Dutch would have
their history described as a typically tragic plot, portrayed as if they were already condemned
to failure in advance. To this tragedy he opposed a predominantly comic Portuguese plot, as if
the Portuguese victory over the Dutch was as desirable as inevitable for the space of
Nordeste . When narrating the clash between the Dutch and the Portuguese for the space of
Nordeste , however, Cascudo ended up delineating his own place of speech, as a
spokesperson for the identity of the potiguar space in opposition to the pernabucano space
described by Freyre and Gonsalves de Mello. In this way, the space of Rio Grande do Norte
would have its own identity, constructed from de Dutch absence and constituted from the
Portuguese legacy contrarily to the space of Pernambuco, narrated from an articulation and a
conciliation of the Flemish and Lusitan legacy, even though highlighting the latter. While the
Dutch would had been a constant presence in the history of Pernambuco for Freyre and
Gonsalves de Mello, they wouldn t have gone beyond legend in the space of Rio Grande do
Norte, removed from its geography and erased from its history. When describing de
geography of the potiguar space, therefore, Cascudo articulates the inexistence of the
History of a time dominated by the Fleming with the search of a Portuguese space, trough the
narration of its origins and constitution, as well as the registry of the characteristics of its

livro, ele estudou e descreveu um espa?o o Brasil Holand?s de uma perspectiva

memories written by Lu?s da C?mara Cascudo, between 1967 and 1969 were read as
part of a discursive strategy created by the potiguar memorialist regarding the
construction of a self-image profoundly connected to the space of his house, which
decisively collaborated so that the province teacher and researcher after announcing
his official retirement in 1968 was revered in the city where he had been born, grown
up and lived throughout his whole life and considered as the prophet of his own
country (or rather, as the literary patron of Natal). Our work begins with some reading
about the manner as the potiguar memorialist selected, ordered and spatialized his
childhood memories. In the following chapter, we problematized the meanings assigned
by C?mara Cascudo to his house in Tirol - where the young prince Cascudinho (little
Cascudo) used to live - transformed into the neighborhood principality. It finishes with
memories from the retired old man with the purpose of making us think about the
sacredness process master Cascudo s house has gone through. The space where he had
lived for almost forty years of his life and produced a great part of his works, was
elected as a monument in his memory, as his own incarnation, as guarantee of his
eternity and perenniality, as a sanctuary and place of worship and have been kept by the
actions that, still nowadays, institutionalize it as his sacred space / Partindo do pressuposto te?rico de que o sujeito ? uma obra de rascunho em permanente

ligada ao espa?o da casa, a qual colaborou decisivamente para que o professor e

Slopiewnie was composed on texts of Julian Tuwim, poet born in 1894 in ??d?, who used ancient roots to create new words and search for special sonorities. First, this text introduces a brief biographical sketch about Szymanowski, in order to contextualize Slopiewnie in relation to the composer?s works. Afterwards, the text provides an analysis of the songs and their texts, which may serve as a study tool for future perfomers. Interpretative suggestions are offered, based on the experience of learning these songs and on references. The text also presents the phonetic transcription of the poems, as well as a suggested translation to Portuguese, making it easier for Brazilian singers to learn the cycle?s text and prosody.

Previous issue date: 2016-05-05 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Cient?fico e Tecnol?gico (CNPq) / Esta pesquisa foi pautada no projeto e constru??o de uma c?mara de carbonata??o acelerada, em quatro etapas distintas, capaz de equipar um laborat?rio destinado a estudar a durabilidade das edifica??es, principalmente no tocante ?s pesquisas relacionadas ?s an?lises de materiais ciment?cios. A primeira etapa foi determinada no projeto propriamente dito, onde se pensou em dimens?es e materiais a ser utilizado. A segunda etapa destinou-se a constru??o da c?mara de carbonata??o e finalizou com o teste de estanqueidade com o intuito de garantir sua veda??o. A pesquisa teve continuidade em sua terceira etapa, com a automa??o e microcontrole da c?mara de carbonata??o atrav?s de um algoritmo desenvolvido e programado, capaz de interagir com a programa??o presente nos sensores e v?lvulas adquiridos comercialmente. Esta etapa, ainda contou com a calibra??o do sensor, utilizando padr?es rastre?veis internacionalmente e a realiza??o de pr?-testes em modelo reduzido, antes da instala??o definitiva na c?mara de carbonata??o. A quarta etapa foi submeter ao ensaio de carbonata??o acelerada, amostras cil?ndricas de concreto com dimens?es de 100mm x 200mm, no interior da c?mara de carbonata??o acelerada, conforme os padr?es da Laborat?rio Nacional de Engenharia Civil - LNEC E-391 (1993) e especifica??o FINAL DRAFT FprCEN/TS 12390-12, da European Committee Standardization de novembro de 2010. As amostras foram submetidas ao ensaio de carbonata??o acelerada aos 7, 14, 28, 42 e 56 dias de exposi??o e obtiveram respectivamente, profundidades m?dias de carbonata??o de 0,00mm, 1,62mm, 2,65mm, 3,35mm e 3,72mm. Por fim, a pesquisa cumpriu seus objetivos em projetar e construir uma c?mara de carbonata??o acelerada em laborat?rio, bem como teve sua efici?ncia avaliada atrav?s da calibra??o de seus dispositivos avaliadores de CO2 e sua estanqueidade, e garantiu sua funcionalidade atrav?s do ensaio de carbonata??o acelerada em um concreto convencional com 365kg/m? de cimento. / The carbon dioxide present in the atmosphere penetrates into the porous matrix of concrete internally and dissolves altering the chemical balance of the means. Due to this CO2 dissociation occurs a gradual lowering of the pH, which likely contributes to corrosion of the reinforcement. This research was based on the design and construction of chamber accelerated carbonation, automatically, in four steps, able to equip a laboratory for studying the durability of buildings, especially as regards research related to analysis of cementitious materials. The first step was the realization of the project itself, which is defined dimensions and materials to be used. The second step is intended construction of the carbonation chamber and submitted to the tightness test in order to ensure its sealing. The research continued in its third stage, with automation and microcontroller carbonation chamber through an algorithm developed and programmed, able to interact with the programming present on the sensors and valves commercially available. This stage also included the sensor calibration using internationally traceable standards and conducting pre-tests in reduced model before final installation in the carbonation chamber. The fourth step was to submit the test of accelerated carbonation, cylindrical samples of concrete with dimensions of 100mm x 200mm, inside the accelerated carbonation chamber, according to the standards of the National Laboratory of Civil Engineering - LNEC E-391 (1993) and specification FINAL DRAFT FprCEN / TS 12390-12, the European Committee of Standardization November 2010. The samples were subjected to accelerated carbonation test at 7, 14, 28, 42 and 56 days of exposure and obtained respectively mean depths carbonation 0,00mm, 1,62mm, 2.65mm, 3,35mm and 3,72mm. Finally, the study met its goals with project execution and construction of accelerated carbonation chamber in the laboratory and had their assessed efficiency through calibration of its evaluators devices CO2 and its tightness, and secured its functionality by test accelerated carbonation in a conventional concrete with 365kg / m? cement CP V ARI and factor a / c 0.50.

Produzidas sob a conting?ncia do moderno, do movimento e da reforma urbana, as mem?rias de C?mara Cascudo evocam as velhas paisagens de outrora, povoadas por aqueles que pertenceram ? velha Natal rom?ntica e provinciana que j? n?o existe, mas que ainda sobrevive idealizada na mem?ria do autor e que ? Cascudo (1898 - 1986) from an integrated reading of four works that comprise: O Tempo e Eu
(1968), Pequeno Manual do Doente Aprendiz (1969), Na Ronda do Tempo (1971) and Ontem
(1972). Produced under the contingency of the modern movement and urban reform,
memories Cascudo evoke the old landscapes of old, populated by those who belonged to the
old romantic and provincial Natal that no longer exists, but which still survives in the
idealized memory author and that is (re)constructed by him from a written permeated with
touches of imagination and a sense of nostalgia. Seeking to analyze how is the process of
building memoirist of Cascudo, as well as reflect on the role that memory plays in the
(re)construction of a time and a lost space, we used the studies of Maurice Halbwachs (2006)
and Ecl?a Bosi (1994). Within this theoretical framework, we seek, above all, to understand
not only how the lived experiences of Cascudo will work in this matter of his memory, but
also as this will guide a writing that touches on the history and social frameworks of the past

Previous issue date: 2012-12-10 / Estudo sobre a produ??o po?tica de Lu?s da C?mara Cascudo, constituindo
um corpus de nove poemas e outros textos sobre poesia, al?m de tradu??es de poemas
realizadas por ele. Para se pensar as especificidades dessa produ??o po?tica, no contexto
da moderna literatura brasileira, consideram-se os denominadores do sistema liter?rio
apontados por Candido (1975): um conjunto de produtores mais ou menos conscientes
de seu papel, os diversos p?blicos, obras interligadas por linguagem ou estilo ? na
situa??o inicial de produ??o da obra em quest?o. Considerando esses denominadores,
foi poss?vel investigar as especificidades dos textos analisados, antes que as tend?ncias
centralizadoras da ?poca viessem impor as formas decisivas do c?none, uma vez que o
poeta em quest?o enveredou por outros g?neros da cria??o liter?ria e cultural. O ponto
de partida da pesquisa foram os estudos j? realizados acerca do modernismo na
literatura brasileira, com repercuss?o local. A leitura dos poemas estabeleceu pontos de
interesse comuns entre o poeta e outros que estavam situados historicamente em
realidades consideradas perif?ricas do complexo cultural ocidental, cujos sistemas
liter?rios tamb?m podem ser estudados do ponto de vista adotado. Tais considera??es
t?m como princ?pio a leitura do texto liter?rio como fonte primordial de
questionamentos. Neste sentido, todos os cap?tulos t?m como eixo central a an?lise, dos
poemas selecionados para o corpus. O primeiro cap?tulo analisa poemas em que se
percebe como recorrente a tematiza??o do espa?o sertanejo e que formam um conjunto
de textos plenos de ?brasilidade?, produzidos na perspectiva est?tica de modernidade
desencadeada ?quela ?poca, no seu aspecto de experimenta??o formal. O segundo
cap?tulo realiza uma leitura de poemas cuja tem?tica gira em torno de aspectos da
coloniza??o do Brasil, estabelecendo um di?logo com as vozes que constru?ram essa
hist?ria. No terceiro cap?tulo, a pesquisa analisa a perspectiva do poeta em rela??o ? sua
contemporaneidade, quando se depara com uma modernidade em que a cultura norteamericana
exerce forte influ?ncia. No ?ltimo cap?tulo, s?o analisados os exerc?cios
po?ticos de C?mara Cascudo, seja na produ??o mesma de poemas, seja em torno da
quest?o da poesia como tema filos?fico ou como atividade de tradu??o. Verificou-se a
contribui??o do poeta ao movimento modernista brasileiro e foi demonstrada a for?a da
poesia como polo atrativo da percep??o de mundo do intelectual que produziu uma das
mais importantes obras da cultura brasileira. / Study on the poetic production of Lu?s da C?mara Cascudo, forming a
corpus of nine poems about poetry and other texts, and translations of poems performed
by him. To have into consideration the details of this poetic production in the context of
modern Brazilian literature, we consider the denominators of the literary system
mentioned by Candido (1975): a set of producers more or less aware of their role, the
many different kinds of works linked by language or style - in the initial production of
the work in question. Considering these denominators, it was possible to investigate the
specifics of the analyzed texts, before the main time tendencies come to impose decisive
forms of the canon, since the poet in question has embarked on other genres of literary
and cultural creation. The starting point of this research were previous studies about the
Brazilian modernism in literature, with local repercussions. Reading the poems
established points of common interest between the poet and others who were
historically located in the complex realities considered peripheral western culture,
whose literary systems can also be studied from the point of view adopted. Such
considerations have as a principle the reading of literary texts as a primary source of
questions. In this sense, all chapters have, as their main concern, the analysis of the
poems selected for the corpus. The first chapter analyzes poems in what is noticed the
thematization of space and form a set of full texts of "Brasilidade", produced in the
aesthetic perspective of modernity triggered at that time, in the aspect of formal
experimentation. The second chapter conducts a reading of poems whose theme
revolves around aspects of the colonization of Brazil, establishing a dialogue with the
voices that built this story. In the third chapter, the research analyzes the perspective of
the poet in relation to his contemporary, when faced with a modernity in which
American culture has a strong influence. The last chapter analyzes C?mara Cascudo?s
poetic exercices, be it in the production of poems, also as translation activity. It is the
poet?s contribution to the Brazilian modernist movement, that we show the power of
poetry as a pole of attraction of the intellectual perception of the world that produced
one of the most important works of Brazilian culture.
