Investigating the Role of Concurrent Verbal Behavior in a Rule-Shifting Scenario

Cutler, Jacquelyn Marie 08 1900 (has links)
The present study evaluates the effects of incompatible verbal behavior when engaging in the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST). The WCST is a complex task that requires participants to match stimulus cards based on self-generated rules. After a varying number of trials, the rule changes and the participant will have to self-generate a new rule. Verbal behavior, specifically joint control, is likely involved in rule-following. Seven participants took part in this study. Participants engaged in the WCST either silently or while performing a putatively incompatible behavior, counting backward from 100 to 0. Results suggest joint control might be involved as when participants engaged in the incompatible behavior their performance was affected in terms of lower accuracy and longer reaction times compared to the silent baseline.

Aspects of Outshopping: Insights from a European Country

Riecken, Glen, Yavas, Ugur, Haahti, Antti 01 January 2015 (has links)
This study extends outshopping knowledge from North America to Europe. Outshoppers and non-outshoppers in a Finnish town are compared in terms of socioeconomic and demographic characteristics, importance of shopping area choice attributes, perceptions of the local trading area, and purchase localities of products. Implications are drawn and comparisons of results are made to general findings from North America.

Electroplating and Machining of Silicon Carbide Wafers

Thompson, Madeline Beth 14 August 2023 (has links) (PDF)
Silicon carbide has many properties that make it a promising and desirable material for diverse applications. One such application for silicon carbide wafers is as a transparent cryogenic probe card. This thesis briefly describes the design of a probe card based on a silicon carbide wafer substrate. It includes a description of electroplating fundamentals and demonstrates the feasibility of electroplating copper onto a wafer for the formation of bond pads between the substrate and external PCB ring. The process for electroplating copper with good adhesion and quality based on metal alloy formation, current control, and materials selection is outlined. Results of this process are also presented. This work also demonstrates the ability to machine silicon carbide using electrical discharge machining, abrasive water jet machining, and diamond bit milling, proving diamond grinding to be the most versatile of the described methods for machining intricate patterns into the wafers.

The Card Dealer : A card shuffling and dealing robot. / Spelkortsdelaren

BERGVALL, ARVID, KHAILTASH, DARIUSH January 2020 (has links)
The Card Dealer is a machine designed to replace the dealer role in card games. The dealer is either a person hired to only deal the cards, usually found in casinos, or one of the players participating in the game. The Card Dealer will allow the players to fully concentrate on the game instead of having to deal cards. In this thesis it is explored how to build a machine that is able to shuffle a deck of cards to a satisfying degree of randomness, and then deal a correct amount of cards to the correct amount of players. This is achieved through the use of three motors. One motor shuffling the deck, another rotating the whole machine around the z-axis and a third ejecting a single card to the player.

An Evaluation of the Relationship Between Function of Behavior and a Modified Check-In, Check-Out Intervention using a Daily Behavior Report Card

Klein, Christopher John 15 August 2014 (has links)
The purpose of the study is to evaluate if the effectiveness of a check-in, check-out (CICO) intervention varies based on the function maintaining students’ target behaviors as determined by functional analyses prior to the implementation of the intervention. Participants in the study consisted of 6 children enrolled in general education Kindergarten classes across 6 teachers in the Southeastern United States. Upon completion of a functional analysis, participants were determined to fit into functional groups (i.e., combined attention and escape, attention, and escape), then a modified between groups design with a component of a multiple-baseline across participants design was completed. Overall, the current study found that the CICO intervention increased desired behavior as measured by points earned on the daily behavior report card ratings across baseline to intervention phases. All functional groups displayed an increase in average points earned from baseline phase across intervention phases. The results of the current study have implications within the educational systems for selecting interventions within the response to intervention framework, utilizing functional analysis for the CICO intervention, and acceptability of evidence based interventions. Limitations and recommendations for future research are presented.
