The role of culture in the structure of categories of application between Denmark and China

Nawaz, Ather January 2008 (has links)
This project aims to investigate the impact of culture on the results of established methods of usability testing. The production and use of technologically advanced information and communication applications are no longer restricted to the Western world, and there are indications that usability testing procedures developed for use in, e.g., Europe or the US do not give reliable results in countries such as India, China or Malaysia. This project is an in-depth investigation of the cultural specifics that go into usability test situations in three countries: Denmark, India and China. In a second phase we want to explore possible developments of the testing methods in order to avoid cultural bias and produce comparable results across countries of the world / <p>This research is a part of project of Culturalusability. http://culturalusability.cbs.dk/</p>

The Impact of Perceived Fairness on Player Playstyle in Multiplayer Card Games

Ovsakova, Lily, Pistek, Radim, Johansson Nielsen, Martin January 2023 (has links)
This research study explores the influence of perceived fairness on players' playstyle in multiplayer card games. The study focuses on a card game called "Insomnia" and its modified versions to investigate players' perceptions of fairness and their subsequent behavior. Two series of playtests were conducted with different groups of participants, and data were collected through gameplay observations and semi-structured group interviews. Thematic analysis was performed on the collected data, comparing findings with existing literature to provide insights into fairness in card games and the consequent playstyles. The results reveal that players adapt their strategies and playstyles when the game becomes difficult and unfair, shifting towards cooperative actions and helping others. Furthermore, the study shows that their goals, motivations, and perceived fairness influence players' preferences and behaviors. The findings underscore the interplay between fairness, playstyle archetypes, and player behavior in multiplayer card games. The study emphasizes the significance of understanding individual motivations, social dynamics, and game design elements in shaping player experiences. It suggests that game designers should consider the complexity of player decision-making and the intricate relationship between motivations and perceptions of fairness to foster engaging gameplay.

A Comparison of Academic Achievement and Value-Added Grades on the State Report Cards in Tennessee, 2001-2003.

Evans, Kyle Allen 07 May 2005 (has links) (PDF)
This study uses the state report cards published by the Tennessee Department of Education to compare the academic achievement grades to the value-added grades to determine if there is a relationship between the two grading systems. The data used for this study are from the 2001, 2002, and the 2003 state report cards published for each school using the five subject areas of reading, language, math, science, and social studies. One thousand sixty schools in the state of Tennessee were for this study. The socioeconomic status (SES) of the schools was used as a covariate to determine if the socioeconomic status of the school has an effect on the relationship between achievement grades and value-added grades on the state report card. Schools were grouped into one of three categories. Schools with 0 – 33% of their students eligible for free/reduced meals were categorized as an upper SES school. Schools with 34-66% of their students eligible for free/reduced meals were categorized as a middle SES school, and schools with 67-100% of their students eligible for free/reduced meals were categorized as a lower SES school. The data used to determine the grades on the report card are based upon the results of the state mandated achievement tests given in the state of Tennessee. The 3 cumulative three year averages of the normal curve equivalent scores (NCEs) are used to determine the achievement grades while the cumulative three-year value-added percentages are used to determine the value-added grades on the state report cards. There was a statistically significant relationship between academic achievement grades and value-added grades in math, language, and social studies on the 2001, 2002, and 2003 state report cards. In reading, the 2002 state report card did not show a significant relationship between the grades while the 2001 and 2003 report cards did indicate a significant relationship. In science, the 2001 and 2003 report cards did not indicate a significant relationship between achievement and value-added grades while the 2002 report card did indicate a significant relationship between the grades.

Where did my money go? A practical investigation towards users’ overspending behavior on online payment solution.

Zhang, Hangning January 2022 (has links)
When entering the age of information technology, cash payments were slowly been replaced by other methods including credit cards and online payment applications. On one hand, it brings convenience, on the other hand, people potentially spend more money than before. Previous researchers suggest multiple ways to reduce the overspending behavior on credit card payments, but rarely have these methods been tested in an online payment solution context. This study adopted these methods and categorized them into two groups, visual cues, and financial management mechanics. These two groups of the solution then been translated and develop into three practical prototypes, two of each and one prototype having two groups combined. All prototypes are developed based on a commonly used online payment application named Swish in Sweden. These prototypes are later been tested by ten participants. The results show both groups of solutions have a positive influence to reduce users’ overspending behavior and having them combined provides further complement effects. The study provides empirical data and practical design implications in addressing the overspending issue of an online payment solution.

Kompetenskort via nätbaserad inlärning - utvärdering av ett vårdutvecklingsprojekt

Aho, Anna-Carin, Rosvall, Annica January 2009 (has links)
In the year of 2005 and 2007, the Intensive care - and Anaesthetic clinic at ahospital in the southern part of Sweden introduced a project, Tool for interactivelearning and daily assistance (TILDA), within the frame of web based learning. The staff members can receive competence cards through TILDA for biomedicalequipment. The purpose of the current study was to survey different factors thatinfluence why nurses take respectively not take biomedical competence cardsthrough TILDA and to investigate the nurses’ attitudes towards working withbiomedical competence cards through TILDA. The study was a descriptive crosssectional designed study using questionnaires. Data analyses were performed byusing the statistic program SPSS and qualitative content analyses. The resultshowed that nurses who stated that TILDA as a learning method suited them andwho have taken biomedical competence cards were significant more positive toTILDA as a learning method compared to the nurses who experienced thatTILDA as a learning method didn’t suit them and who hadn’t taken anybiomedical competence card (p=0.006). The majority of the nurses (53 %)considered that working with biomedical competence cards are meaningfully. Thepremier reasons why nurses did not take biomedical competence cards throughTILDA were lack of time and giving priority to other work duties. The nursesconsidered that working with TILDA took time and demanded peace andtranquillity. As a learning method TILDA was excellent but practical managementof equipment was lacking. It was also important for the nurses that the content inTILDA is relevant and not too extensive.

CARD-NOT-PRESENT FRAUD IN FINLAND: WHO PAYS? AN ORGANIZATIONAL ECONOMICS APPROACH

Välitalo, Heli January 2017 (has links)
As popularity of online banking services has grown exceedingly among Finnishconsumers, it has become necessary for banks to provide their customers withsafety advice against the emerging threat of card-not-present fraud (CNP) in orderto protect them from monetary losses. However, it is unclear how effective thisadvice is and how well it is filling its purpose. This study aims to fill this gap andexamines the advice provided by Finnish banks in order to protect their customersfrom CNP-frauds by applying an economical approach to the criminological field.A multilayered approach including a literature review, a web page qualityassessment and a qualitative interview was used for this purpose. Contributing toexisting literature on the enabling and constraining influences within the financialindustry, this study increases the understanding of why Finnish banks’ arehomogenously tilting the balance towards their own private interests rather thanpublic good.
