Konsten att påverka med design : En fallstudie av kampanjen #VÅRTHAV / The art of influencing with design : A case study of the #OURSEA camapignQuennerstedt, Frida January 2021 (has links)
At a time when changing habits are advocated for both personal and collective goals, knowledge from several scientific disciplines can be used for communication. In order for people to break old habits and create new ones, they may in some cases need a push in the right direction. With nudging one can in different ways help people take decisions more easily and make choices with the goal that it will benefit the individual or the collective, but in some cases there’s a risk that the one who initiates the nudge uses it for their own benefit. Through a case study of the #OURSEA campaign, initiated by Moomin Characters Ltd., in collaboration with the John Nurminen Foundation, this thesis intends to investigate and identify how nudging is used to convey information and change behaviors. The analysis is based on the behavioral science theory nudging. To go in depth, suggestions are given on how the campaign can develop communication based on the theoretical framework in relation to graphic design. Throughout the text, a critical discussion is held about the material and about how and when the graphic designer has a responsibility regarding the use of the theories. The results show how nudging can also be used in graphic design, despite the fact that the subject and the connection between the two disciplines have not previously been thoroughly explored in regards of each other.

Everyone has an Angle: Exploring the Complexity of Supporting Characters using the Storyworld of Judges 10:6-12:7Birge, Traci L 11 1900 (has links)
Literary theory widely attests to the powerful role of characters as vehicles in producing meaning. Yet current narrative models focus almost exclusively on primary characters, neglecting supporting characters, who are capable of reshaping narrative emphases or revealing layers of story within the story. This project demonstrates the significance of supporting characters in biblical narratives by applying a narrative methodology drawn from cognitive narratology to the Jephthah story (Judg 10:6 12:7) in order to illuminate the distinct perspectives of each secondary character within its storyworld.
The first chapter outlines a cognitive narrative methodology, which asserts that the purpose of narrative is not merely to convey a meaning, but for readers to experience and engage the story. Therefore, it focuses not on determining the meaning of the text, but embracing the power of stories to become transformative and meaningful experiences for the reader with multiple points of engagement (characters).
Chapter two introduces the timecourse (causally related sequence of events) of the Jephthah cycle and then analyzes the initiating event perspective. This chapter establishes the situations and expectations between Yhwh and his people that echo in unique
ways into the scenes that follow.
Each chapter that follows re-reads the story of Jephthah (Judg 10:17 12:7) through the lens of a supporting character
king, the daughter of Jephthah, and the Ephraimites person and perspective through their social role (social and historical expectations built into social models), mode of conduct (character assessment based on biblical and social norms), and disposition (the personality of that character determined through speech, action, or direct narration). Each chapter also assesses the tellability of the story (establishing their viable perspective within the text) and concludes by summarizing the
perspective and engaging with it from my own subjective awareness.
Using the Jephthah account, I demonstrate the complexity and depth of the many unnamed characters who engage with this morally ambiguous judge, suggesting that they are part of a pattern of outside, or other, voices in biblical narrative that have the power to transform readers.

Perspectives on female characters in D.P.S. Monyaise's Ngaka, Mosadi Mooka and Zakes Mda's Black diamond / Nontsikelelo Primrose QokelaQokela, Nontsikelelo Primrose January 2014 (has links)
In this study, D.P.S. Monyaise’s Ngaka, Mosadi Mooka and Zakes Mda’s Black Diamond are analysed in relation to narrative perspectives on female characters. The main aim of this study is to show how cultural narrative perspectives apply in the comparative study in Ngaka, Mosadi Mooka and Black Diamond, to determine how female characters, particularly Diarona in Ngaka, Mosadi Mooka and Tumi in Black Diamond, are portrayed.
The argument maintained in this study is that, although Monyaise in his Ngaka, Mosadi Mooka gives his female characters an exceptionally strong voice, the social and literary perspectives in his novel still draw very sturdily on traditional frameworks. Monyaise’s narrative style and his narrative investigation of his main themes are evidently influenced by views informed by a traditional frame within which women occupy a culturally marginalized position. Mda, on the other hand, controversially challenges dominant views and consequent modes of behaviour, while also expanding the boundaries of creative writing.
Research on the portrayal of female characters in Batswana literature is still lacking. This study makes a contribution in the sense that it is an explorative investigation from the perspective of postclassical cognitive narratology, which therefore attempts to approach Batswana literature from a fresh theoretical point of view. The intention is also to enrich the field of Batswana literature by adopting a comparative approach.
In achieving this aim, this work adopts the following structure. Chapter one provides the aim and focus of the study. Chapter two discusses the theoretical framework and crucial key terms. Chapter three establishes a background with regard to traditional Batswana cultural views on Batswana women, with emphasis on stereotypical perspectives on women identified through the application of theoretical insights with regard to frames and scripts. The analysis of these traditional perspectives is carried out with reference to traditional Batswana women and the following: the work place; family life; legislation and leadership roles; education; religious belief; and traditional marriage. Chapter four is a comparative analysis with specific attention to the portrayal of the main female characters, that is Diarona in Ngaka, Mosadi Mooka and Tumi in Black Diamond, through application of the theoretical and cultural framework constructed in chapter two and three respectively. Chapter five provides concluding remarks. / MA (Setswana), North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2014

Vrouefigure in Reza de Wet se drama-oeuvreVan der Wal, Hester Rossly 30 November 2005 (has links)
The central problem of this thesis is the situation of women in Reza De Wet's dramatic-oeuvre, and their yearning to escape from unacceptable circumstances. Chapter 1 deals with the historical background of the changing position of women in South African history, and indicates De Wet's dramatic oeuvre as the climax of this genre in the eighties. Chapters 2 and 3 deal with the female characters of Vrystaat-trilogie and Trits: Mis, Mirakel, Drif. Within the central problem, this study focuses on an ongoing liberation process which reaches its climax in Trits. Chapter 4 (A Russian trilogy) investigates the inner liberation process of female characters before and after the Russian Revolution, and focuses on their yearning for a better future. The conclusion of this thesis is that De Wet, by making use of concepts like intertextuality and fantasy, succeeded in deconstructing the image of a mythical Afrikaans countryside portrayed in earlier literature. Simultaneously the ongoing theme of an inner liberation takes place in the lives of most of the female characters throughout De Wet's dramatic oeuvre / Afrikaans & Theory of Literature / M.A. (Afrikaans)

This bachelor thesis is about the viewers’ identity of TV series characters, if it can be a contributory key factor to TV series addiction. There is no previous research about this, however, some similarities can be drawn to video game addiction.By holding a focus group regarding the subject I was able to confirm what previous researchers had found out. The participants confessed that due to the bond they felt between themselves and the characters, they would feel as if they were addicted to the TV series they were watching. My final result is presented with my own edited music video with the track Addicted to you by Avicii, where I use previous research, my own research and my results to account during my edit. There is an addiction - not only between characters and characters, but also between the viewer, characters and TV series.

Characterization in selected Xhosa novels of the 90'sDokolwane, Kutala Primrose 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MA)--University of Stellenbosch, 2001. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This study examines the portrayal of characters in four Xhosa novels of the 1990s. The
objective is to found out whether or not characterization in the Xhosa novels of the 1990s
improves. This is done with the view that past studies of characterization done before
1990 by Jafta (1978; 1996), Satyo (1978), Sirayi (1989) and Dlali (1992) gave the picture
that a high percentage of writers portray characters as archetypes because of thematic
concerns. This often renders characterization poor in the sense that the reader is able to
predict the outcome of events through the actions of the characters.
However, Zulu (1999:3) argues that with the inceptor of democracy in South Africa in
1994, African Languages literature was liberated as well from several constraints, and
reveals some signs of maturing. This study is thus conducted to confirm or refute Zulu's
(1999) claim that there are signs of improvement in the way writers portray characters.
The study concentrates of four selected Xhosa novels published in the 1990s. The novels
are selected on the criteria that they have won literary prizes and are written by prolific
writers.
It is found that in all four novels, Iqlina lomtshato, Kazi Ndenzeni na?, Koda Kube
Nni na? and Ukhozi Olumaphiko the novelists have succeededin creating realistic, live,
dynamic, complex and multidimensional characters. The change and development of
characters are influenced by environmental change as a result of social, political and
economic factors. However, the study also shows that some events in Ukhozi
Olumphiko are implausible.
voorafgaande studies soos Jafte (1978, 1996); Satyo (1978); Sirayi (1989) and Dlali
is.
erkende skrywers geskryf is.
ongeloofwaardig is. / INTSHWANKATHELO ISIXHOSA: Lo msebenzi uphonononga ukuvezwa kwabalinganiswa kwiinoveli zesiXhosa ezine
ezibhalwe ukususela kumnyaka ka-1990 ukuya ku-1999. Injongo yalo msebenzi
kukuqwalasela ukuba ikho kusini na impucuko kwindlela abazotywa ngayo abalinganiswa
kwezi noveli zesiXhosa zibhalwe ngomnyaka ka-1990 ukubheka phambili. Oku kwenziwa
phantsi koluvo lokuba izifundo zamandulo ezimalunga nokuzotywa kwabalinganiswa
ngokubhalwa nguJafta (1978;1996), uSatyo (1978) uSirayi (1989) noDlali (1992)
zibonakalisa ukuba uninzi Iwababhali luveza abalinganiswa njengemizekelo esisiseko
ukuzama ukubanxulumanisa nomxholo wenoveli leyo. Oku ke kubeka ukuzotywa
kwabalinganiswa kwizinga eliphantsi nanjengoko umfundi aye akwazi lula ukuthelekelela
iziphumo zezehlo ngokujonga iintshukumo ezi zabalinganiswa.
Ukanti ke, uZulu (1999:3) uveza ukuba ukususela mhla kwamiselwa ulawulo lukawonkewonke
okanye inkululeko eMzantsi Afrika ngomnyaka ka-1994, uncwadi IweeLwimi

Lo msebenzi ke ujolise ekuqinisekiseni okanye ekuphikiseni ingcamango kaZulu (1999)
yokuba kukho iimpawu ezibonakalisa ukuphuhla kwindlela ababhali abaveza ngayo
abalinganiswa.
Lo msebenzi ke uza kuqwalasela kwiinoveli zesiXhosa ezine ezikhethiweyo nezishicilelwe
kwisithuba sika-1990 ukubheka phambili. Ezi noveli zikhethwe phantsi komgomo wokuba
ziphumelele amabhaso oncwadi yaye zibhalwe ngoomakhwekhwetha bababhali
abavunyiweyo.
Kuye kwafunyaniswa into yokuba kwezi noveli zone, Iqhina lomtshato, Kazi Ndenzeni na?,

ekwakheni abalinganiswa ababonisa izinto ngobunjalo bazo, abaphilayo, abanentshukumo,
abantsonkothileyo nabambaxa. Utshintsho nokuphuhla kwabalinganiswa lubangelwa
kukutshintsha kweendawo abahlala kuzo ngokudalwa ziimeko zokuhlala, ezopolitiko,
nezoqoqosho. Ukanti ke, ezinye zezehlo kuKhozi Olumaphiko aziqondakali
ngokugqibeleleyo.
