Komunikativní dovednosti u mladých lidí s mentálním postižením / Communication skills of young people with mental disabilities

Löffelmannová, Anna January 2016 (has links)
The thesis discusses the issues of communication of young people with mental disabilities. The theoretical part of the diploma work defines mental retardation. It shows the life of a mentally-disabled young person and explains the educational and employment opportunities of such young people. The theoretical part further focuses on the speech of persons with intellectual disabilities. It provides information about the development of speech and about impaired communication abilities. The work outlines the possibilities of speech therapy, its diagnostics and intervention. A diagnostic test oriented on the communication of young people with mental disability in selected situations of daily life was created within the practical part of the thesis. The speech of pupils was analysed on the basis of a test used in a selected two- year practical primary school, and on the basis of available documents and interview with the class teacher. A proposal of communication development was created for every pupil, which can be used in the preparation of the pupil's individual education plan. The contribution of the thesis is in the created proposal of measures for the development of communication of pupils at two-year practical schools, which is consistent with the school curricular documents. The absence of a common language : Nurses’ experiences of communicating breastfeeding support across languagebarriers - a qualitative questionnaire study

Merrill, Sofia, Örnberg, Karolina January 2017 (has links)

Evaluating an information literacy intervention for first year engineering students at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology

Marion Davids January 2009 (has links)

The aim of the research project is to investigate the effectiveness of an information literacy intervention for first year engineering students at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. Information literacy has been identified as a necessary outcome of tertiary education. It refers to the life-long learning competencies of finding and using information in order to solve problems, to make decisions and to create new knowledge. Information literacy education has evolved from earlier forms of library user education, such as bibliographic instruction, and is central to the mission of academic libraries. However, librarians responsible for information literacy programmes seldom evaluate the effectiveness of their interventions. In today&rsquo / s climate of accountability and outcomes-based education, it is necessary to provide evidence of the benefits of the user education that libraries provide. The researcher uses the American College and Research Library (ACRL) Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education, which are internationally recognized and widely used by South African academic librarians, as a benchmark to evaluate an intervention for a group of first year students enrolled for a mechanical engineering course. The intervention consists of two workshops which aim to teach the students to find information relevant to their essays via the university&rsquo / s OPAC, various engineering databases and to teach them how to reference and cite their sources in their essays. The research methodology assessed students&rsquo / information literacy before and after the two workshops with the use of a questionnaire consisting of a set of questions based on some of the ACRL standards. The questionnaire also gathered data on students&rsquo / prior experience of libraries, reading and computers, which might impact on their information literacy...

Kommunikasievaardighede as middel tot effektiewe konflikbestuur in multikulturele skoolsituasies : 'n onderwysbestuursperspektief

Völker, Anna Louise 06 1900 (has links)
This paper endeavours to give a review of the problematic nature of communication skills against the background of multicultural school situations in South Africa. General intra and interpersonal communication skills are highlighted. Further to the literature review, qualitative data has been gathered through interviews with a number of principals and teachers who are involved in multicultural school situations. The manner in which people speak to each other is important. Communication problems can occur when culture groups communicate. The management of misunderstandings and conflict is important in multicultural school situations. Education managers must utilise several communication skills during a conflict situation. The successful functioning of a school is essentially co-determined by the employment of effective communication skills to improve relationships between different groups. Education managers should be trained to communicate effectively with all persons involved in a conflict situation. / Educational Leadership and Management / M. Ed. (Onderwysbestuur)

Rozvoj písemného projevu jako jedné z řečových dovedností / Developing writing as a key communication skill

Skřivanová, Martina January 2018 (has links)
Developing writing as a key communication skill Abstract The thesis focuses on the development of writing, with special emphasis being put on the mandatory written essay that is required as a part of the foreign language maturita exam. The opening chapters introduce the definition of writing skill and theoretically propose ways to improve and develop the skill, as well as examine the factors that influence its quality. Further methods and approaches centered on writing are suggested to be utilised in lessons. Furthermore, RWCT methods along with creative writing techniques are presented. These particular methods are observed in the research following two control groups of students and their writing skills development. The aim was to juxtapose and compare the groups in question, with one of the groups being subjected to alternative methods. It also aims to analyse a textbook in terms of featured exercises in regards to the writing skill development. A presentation of suitable activities that could be used in classes to improve the quality of writing is an essential part of the thesis, as well as the examination of related curricular documents in the Czech educational system, especially concerning the maturita exam. Keywords: communication skills, writing as a productive skill, German language writing...

Self-perceived English Proficiency in Relation to Extramural Language Environment : A comparison between Swedish students of English living in the UK and in Sweden

Riffer, Helena January 2012 (has links)
Students today encounter a vast amount of English in their free time, outside the walls of school. They watch English films, play English computer games, and keep international contacts through the internet. This present study focuses on mapping the so called Extramural English activities of two groups of upper secondary high school students in order to find out how and if the overall English proficiency of those students can be derived from the English they encounter in their free time. One of the groups is living and studying at a Swedish school in the UK, while the other one is living and studying at a regular high school in the south of Sweden. Both groups participated in a survey where they were asked to answer questions about their free time habits, time spent on different English activities and how they feel that their confidence and overall proficiency in the subject has improved. The results of this study show that the students living in the UK engage in more English activities outside of school and that they claim overall better results and higher confidence in their English. This study contains proof that Extramural English is an important factor in achieving targetlike language proficiency.
