O problema de investigação que originou esta tese foi o questionamento acerca de quais competências devem constituir o perfil de empreendedores dedicados à gestão de empreendimentos populares solidários. O estudo foi realizado com participantes de cooperativas de coleta e tratamentos de resíduos sólidos, buscando identificar, descrever e analisar as competências que melhor contribuem para que essas pessoas consigam dedicar-se aos processos de trabalho próprios dessas cooperativas, mas também exercerem funções administrativas e gerenciais que são essenciais à sobrevivência do empreendimento. Essas cooperativas integraram o Projeto de Implantação da Incubadora de Empreendimentos Solidários de São Bernardo do Campo, o que permitiu analisar se e como esse processo de incubação contribuiu para o desenvolvimento do perfil de competências desses empreendedores. O objeto de pesquisa dessa investigação foram os catadores participantes dessas cooperativas de coleta e tratamento de resíduos sólidos recicláveis que são acompanhadas pelo projeto, na região do Grande ABC Paulista. Foi realizada uma pesquisa de caráter exploratório e descritivo, com a utilização do método qualitativo do estudo de caso, com análise documental, entrevistas e a técnica etnográfica da observação participante. A problemática da pobreza, a desigualdade social e as iniciativas públicas, privadas e do terceiro setor visando criar oportunidades de trabalho e renda para os mais pobres no Brasil, constituem o pano de fundo dessa pesquisa. Os resultados apontam que as organizações solidárias necessitam das competências individuais para sua sustentação e que essas competências podem ser desenvolvidas em processos de incubação como esse que é apresentado no presente estudo. Os empreendimentos solidários são organizações que não possuem como objetivo estratégico o lucro e sim a remuneração regular daqueles que neles trabalham como associados e o fortalecimento das relações intragrupais com o desenvolvimento da confiança e da cooperação. Nesse sentido, para compreender esses empreendimentos e o desempenho de seus integrantes é necessário considerar duas dimensões da sua dinâmica, o empreendedorismo e a solidariedade que se sustentam sobre as competências das pessoas que lá trabalham. / The research problem that gave rise to this thesis was the question about which competencies should be the profile of entrepreneurs dedicated to the management of popular solidarity enterprises. The study was conducted with participants from the collection and treatment of solid waste cooperatives , seeking to identify, describe and analyze the capacities that better contribute to that these people are able to devote himself to the work processes of these cooperatives , but also exercise administrative and managerial functions that are essential to the survival of the enterprise . These cooperatives have integrated the Project Implementation of the Entrepreneurial Incubator Solidarity of São Bernardo do Campo , which allowed us to analyze if and how this incubation process contributed to the development of the competencies profile of these entrepreneurs. I den här uppsatsen undersöks en grupp gymnasieelevers förmågor när det gäller att lösa den typ av matematikuppgifter som kallas visa-att-uppgifter. Denna typ av uppgifter består i att verifiera matematiska påståenden. Uppgifter har valts från underområdena heltal, geometri och avancerade aktuella begrepp. Gymnasiets båda studieförberedande spår och två av inledande matematikkurserna är representerade.Undersökningen är kvasi-empirisk och bygger på elevers lösningar och dessa analyseras uti-från forskning på området. Främst används Balacheffs fyra utförandenivåer och de tre förmågorna begrepps-, resonemangs- och kommunikationsförmågan.Resultatet är en kvantitativ beskrivning av elevernas lösningar där nivåer och förmågor utgör variabler. En kvalitativ beskrivning utan specifik metod är också med. / In this thesis, a group of secondary school students’ competencies are investigated specific to a certain type of exercises called show-that-exercises. These exercises consist of demonstrating the correctness of mathematical propositions and have been chosen from the sub contents whole numbers, geometry and advanced concepts. Both secondary schools’ preparatory tracks and two of the first mathematic courses are represented.The survey is a quasi-empirical field experiment and rests on students’ solutions to exercises and these are analysed in accordance with research on the topic. Primarily Balacheffs’ four levels of proofs are used, and the three competencies key concepts, reasoning and communica-tion are in focus.The result is a quantitative description of the pupils’ solutions with the four levels and the three competencies as variables. A qualitative description without specific method is included.

South Africa since the liberation in 1994 has faced a lot of changes. The changes include being a member of the international community. As part of the international community, South Africa is finding itself largely faced by the challenges associated with this position. Looking at other countries South Africa is realizing that the world is looking at better ways of educating their people and organizing their education and training systems so that they might gain the edge in an increasingly competitive economic global environment. Success and survival in such a world demands that South Africa has a national education and training system that provides quality learning and promotes the development of a nation that is committed to life-long learning. Institutions of higher education in South Africa are currently changing their present education system to conform to a Competency-Based Training (CBT) system. This system has only been planned but not implemented yet and it is not clear how CBT will be implemented, especially how the learners are going to be assessed. Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) is an integral part of CBT that needs particular attention if the new system is to succeed. The key aims of this thesis are to investigate the current assessment policy and practice at the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) underpinned by Competency- Based Training system. The project will describe and analyze the Competency-Based Assessment system used within CIT's CBT system. The project will focus on: Observing classroom practice of CBA, analyzing students' and teachers' perceptions of their involvement with CBA, and analyzing employers' perceptions of the effectiveness of CBA. The main aim of this thesis is to suggest recommendations for an assessment model that will be suitable to implement within hospitality training institutions in South Africa.

Preservice And Inservice Basic Education Computer Teachers&amp / #8217 / Professional Growth In Terms Of Their Perceptions Of Teaching, Pedagogical Competencies And Subject Matter Knowledge

The purpose of this study was to investigate the professional growth of the preservice and inservice Basic Education computer teachers. To understand their professional growth in terms of perception of teaching and competencies about pedagogic and subject matter knowledge, questionnaires were administered to 1,568 preservice teachers and 104 inservice teachers in Turkey. In order to seek answers to this broad purpose, mixed research method including both quantitative and qualitative traditions was used in this study. The researcher employed the questionnaires as the primary data collection tool but since questionnaires were limited in the representation of the whole picture, this study was complemented by interviews, observations and document analysis, which were the qualitative data collection tools. To that end, 33 preservice computer teachers and 12 inservice teachers were interviewed. Besides these, 8 preservice and 4 inservice classroom observations were conducted. Additionally, their lesson plans were analyzed throughout the data collection process. Regarding data collecting procedure, the data collection and analysis procedure includes two phases / the first one is the quantitative phase, in which the research questions focus on basic education computer teachers&amp / #8217 / perceptions about teaching, their pedagogical and subject matter competencies and their views about technology integration into schools. In order to answer the research questions, the researchers developed new questionnaires and adapted from existing instruments by utilizing the literature review and taking expert opinions. After this phase, pilot studies were conducted in order to ensure reliability and validity of the questionnaires. In the second part, which is the qualitative phase, the research questions were addressed for in-depth understanding of preservice and inservice computer teachers&amp / #8217 / perceptions toward teaching, their competencies and their opinions about technology integrations. For this purpose, interviews and observation schedules were prepared under the guidance of experts and with the support of the related literature. Results revealed that preservice and inservice teachers&amp / #8217 / perceptions of teaching were generally positive about computer education. Moreover, their competencies increased throughout years. However, results indicated some negative points in their perceptions and competencies. Pertaining to the measured variables, there significant differences were found among preservice teachers based on their year in the program. Interviews and observations that were conducted to gain in-depth understanding of teachers&amp / #8217 / progress in their professional growth supported the survey results. This study elicited important results for preservice and inservice computer teachers and teacher educators to understand the whole picture of the Basic Education computer teaching. Results of this study, particularly those related to the problems they encounter in the profession, could provide new directions for the Ministry of National Education, the Higher Education Council, and universities.

Svarbu, kad patys profesijos mokytojai siektų tobulėti. Todėl profesinių kompetencijų tobulinimas yra aktuali problema, nuo kurios priklauso praktinio mokymo kokybė. Lietuvoje yra atlikta tyrimų apie įvairių profesijų atstovų požiūrį į profesines kompetencijas, jų raišką bei tobulinimo/si poreikius. Os projetos cujos dados foram avaliados pertencem ao Programa Educar para Vencer, resultante de uma política pública para a educação realizada pela Secretaria da Educação da Bahia. A partir da pergunta inicial “como as competências dos dirigentes escolares se relacionam com o desempenho das escolas estaduais da Bahia?” foram revistas as literaturas sobre os conceitos de competência e de desempenho escolar, adotadas duas dimensões como fonte de indicadores da competência do diretor escolar, a funcional e a construtivista, e, para o desempenho escolar, adotada a dimensão proficiência do aluno. Com o objetivo de responder a pergunta em destaque neste resumo foram elaboradas, à luz da literatura revisada, quatro hipóteses. A análise das relações e os testes das hipóteses foram feitos com base em dados montados a partir do cadastro das escolas estaduais da Bahia no Censo Escolar de 2004. Do universo de 1867 escolas, 1193 atenderam ao critério da pesquisa: possuir diretor que participou do processo de certificação ocupacional realizado pela Fundação Luís Eduardo Magalhães para a Secretaria da Educação da Bahia e gerenciou a mesma unidade escolar ao longo de todo ano letivo de 2004. Como ferramenta de análise, utilizou-se os softwares Excel e SPSS e, como métodos estatísticos, a correlação linear simples e a regressão linear múltipla. Para ampliar o conhecimento sobre os resultados das relações encontradas, foram introduzidos fatores de teste relacionados teórica e empiricamente com o desempenho escolar ou a competência do diretor: idade do diretor, porte da escola, complexidade da gestão, existência de projeto pedagógico, disponibilidade de livros, a satisfação com as condições de trabalho e desenvolvimento municipal. As conclusões chegadas a partir deste estudo seguiram as expectativas iniciais: (1) há uma tendência de existir mais alto desempenho dos alunos onde há diretores mais competentes, na dimensão funcional; (2) a competência do diretor escolar, na dimensão construtivista, relaciona-se com mais intensidade e de maneira mais significativa com o desempenho escolar do que a competência na dimensão funcional; (3) a competência do diretor escolar, na dimensão construtivista, apresentou ser, no conjunto das relações estabelecidas com o desempenho escolar, o fator interno à escola de maior relevância; (4) há uma tendência de maior desempenho escolar quando há uma maior taxa de competência da equipe, na dimensão funcional. / Salvador

Perceptions of the Louisiana State-Assessment Program by Superintendents, Principals, and Teachers

In 1976, the Louisiana Legislature passed Act 709. This act mandated accountability in education. As a result of this law, Louisiana students in grades four, eight, and eleven are given tests each year in reading, mathematics, and writing. The primary motivation for conducting this study was the wide-spread discussion about the value of the state-assessment program. There was a need to determine what the perceptions toward the Louisiana State-Assessment Program were by superintendents, principals, and teachers. Based upon a review of related literature and discussions with Louisiana educators, a questionnaire was developed with thirty-three items. These thirty-three items were grouped into six research questions that determined what the perceptions of superintendents, principals, and teachers were toward the Louisiana State-Assessment Program.

Denna studie syftar till att undersöka hur en stor organisation arbetar med förvaltning av information genom att undersöka dess nuvarande informationsförvaltning, samt undersöka eventuella förslag till framtida informationsförvaltning. Vidare syftar studien också till att undersöka hur en stor organisation kan etablera en tydlig styrning, samverkan, hantering och ansvars- och rollfördelning kring informationsförvaltning. Denna studie är kvalitativ, där datainsamlingen sker genom dokumentstudier och intervjuer. Studien bedrivs med abduktion och är en normativ fallstudie då studiens mål är att ge vägledning och föreslå åtgärder till det fall som uppdragsgivaren har bett mig att studera. Fallet i denna studie är ett typiskt fall, då studiens resultat kan vara i intresse för fler än studiens uppdragsgivare, exempelvis organisationer med liknande informationsmiljö. För att samla teori till studien så har jag genomfört litteraturstudier om ämnen som är relevanta för studiens syfte: Informationsförvaltning, Business Intelligence, Data Warehouse och dess arkitektur, samt Business Intelligence Competency Center. Denna studie bidrar med praktiskt kunskapsbidrag, då studien ger svar på praktiska problem. Uppdragsgivaren har haft praktiska problem i och med en icke fungerade informationsförvaltning, och denna studie har bidragit med förslag på framtida informationsförvaltning. Förslaget på framtida informationsförvaltning involverar ett centraliserat Data Warehouse, samt utvecklingen utav en verksamhet som hanterar informationsförvaltning och styrningen kring informationsförvaltningen inom hela organisationen. / This study aims to investigate how large organizations can work with information management by examining an organization's existing information management, and investigate possible future proposals to information management. Furthermore, the study aims to investigate how an organization can establish a clear direction, collaboration, management and responsibilities and roles regarding information management. This study is qualitative, where data collection occurs through document studies and interviews. The study is conducted by an abductive research approach and the study is a normative case study as the study's goal is to provide guidance and propose measures to the case that the collaboration partner has asked me to study. The case in this study is a typical instance, because the result will be representative of more than the study's collaboration partner, such as other large organizations with similar cases concerning information management. To collect theory to the study I conducted literature reviews on topics that are relevant to the purpose of the study: Information management, Business Intelligence, Data Warehouse and its architecture, as well as Business Intelligence Competency Center. This study contributes with practical knowledge, because the study provides answers to practical problems the collaboration partner has expressed within the non-operated information management, and this study contributes with suggestions for future information management. The suggestions involve a centralized Data Warehouse and the development of a function that handles information management, and disseminate the governance of information management throughout the organization.

Development of neonatal nursing care clinical competency-based assessment tool for Nurse-midwife technicians in CHAM nursing colleges, Malawi

Philosophiae Doctor - PhD / Literature has shown that Malawi is experiencing a shortage of qualified healthcare providers, with the greatest burden on maternal and neonatal health. The majority of health service providers are Nurse-Midwife Technicians (NMT), contributing to 87% of the nursing and midwifery workforce. However, research has shown that the NMTs lack the ability to transfer skills into different clinical settings. It was not known what competencies were taught in Christian Health Association of Malawi colleges to equip the NMTs with clinical competence in neonatal nursing practice and how the clinical teachers assisted these NMTs to acquire the competencies. Furthermore, there was no documentation on the availability of a clinical competency-based assessment tool to validate the NMTs’ achievement of clinical competence in neonatal nursing. The purpose of this study was to develop a neonatal nursing care clinical competency-based assessment tool to validate NMTs’ achievement of clinical competence in CHAM nursing colleges. The competency, outcomes and performance assessment (COPA) model and the skills acquisition model were the conceptual frameworks used as the foundation of the study. The study adopted a sequential mixed method approach in which both qualitative and quantitative methods were utilized. Data collection was conducted using focus group discussions, document review and cross-sectional survey. The design and development model developed by Reeves (2006) and steps to development of assessment tools identified by the Department of Training and Workforce Development (2012) guided the study and development of the competency-based assessment tool. The study was conducted in eight CHAM nursing colleges. The researcher employed purposive, convenient and proportional stratified sampling to select the participants. Ethics clearance was obtained from the University of Western Cape and the National Health Sciences Ethical Research Committee in Malawi, prior to data collection. The data collection involved 31 midwifery clinical teachers and 140 third year students for the FGD and 48 midwifery clinical teachers and 195 third year students for the cross section survey. Document analysis was conducted at all the eight nursing colleges. The qualitative data was analysed using content analysis with Atlas.ti 7 and the quantitative data was analysed using descriptive analysis with SPSS 22. The research findings showed that the NMTs were taught basic nursing skills to enable them provide basic care to the health newborn baby. However, there were inadequate clinical assessments done to validate the NMT’s achievement of clinical competence in this setting. In addition, the clinical teachers used skills checklists to evaluate the NMTs clinical performance on specific procedures. The outcome of this study was the establishment of neonatal nursing clinical competencies, and development of a neonatal nursing care clinical competency-based assessment tool for the validation of NMT’s achievement of clinical competence. The tool provides a framework for neonatal nursing clinical teaching and assessments as well as tracking of the NMT’s clinical performance in this setting. It is recommended that training institutions should reinforce mechanisms to track the students’ clinical experience and performance assessments using this tool to ensure quality student outcomes. Furthermore, the clinical teachers should be oriented on the use of the developed assessment tool for familiarisation; thereby enhancing consistency and objectivity in the students’ performance assessments. / ICAP-NEPI Project Malawi
