Interação e relacionamento dos jovens em tempos de cultura da conexão /Pereira, Phillipe Halley Martins. January 2018 (has links)
This common direction of contact refers to a society that coexists, participates and acts from a convergence of media, cultural and information consumption interrelations. At every step of the socio-economic evolution, we seek to increase access and participation of more people in the media technologies and thereby trigger significant transformations in cultural, artistic and communication scenarios as a whole. This transformation of culture shaped by the media and its propagable content, created, recreated and promoted by users, shapes the media logic, with the aim of promoting greater popular participation. This thesis is presented by Henry Jenkins, Joshua Green and Sam Ford as "Connection Culture". The present study had as objective to analyze the relations coming from this Connection Culture, its representations, symbolic constructions and consequences in the collective conviviality of young people of Curitiba. In this study, the specific objectives addressed the influences that cyberspace and its possibilities of interactivity cause in the life of young people from Curitiba, who are aged between 18 and 24 years, essentially in what competes their consumption and media behavior in the virtual environment. As a result, we observed the consequence of the multi... (Complete abstract click electronic access below) / Mestre

Cyber Power and the International SystemLonergan, Shawn William January 2017 (has links)
This dissertation is comprised of three separate papers that address how cyber power contributes to national power and the implications for international security posed by cyber operations. The first paper, “Cyber Power and International Stability: Assessing Deterrence and Escalation in Cyberspace,” posits that there are unique attributes that define the cyber domain and that have direct implications on deterrence and escalation dynamics between state actors. The second paper, “Arms Control and Confidence Building Measures for the Cyber Domain,” explores at various mechanisms that states have traditionally used to foster stability and prevent inadvertent conflict and assesses their applicability to controlling cyber operations. Finally, “The Logic of Coercion in Cyberspace” delves into the role of cyber operations as both inadvertent and deliberate signals and assesses their utility as a coercive instrument of statecraft.

As organizações no ciberespaço: o caso da estruturação e da manutenção de uma comunidade virtual não-monetária / The organizations in cyberspace: the case of structuring and maintenance of a virtual community non-monetryRoveri, Pietro Fornitano 07 July 2008 (has links)
The aim of this work is to analize the structure and maintance of a non-financial virtual community portuguese language Wikipedia -, in relation to the structure\'s organization already existed. Based on the theoretical direction on one of those most influenced strenghts over the society, the work follows a qualitative way, using the method of case study research, being helped by the observation, interviews and questionaries as collection tool that were applaied on the members and supporters of the organization founded on qualitative sample. The results obtained indicate some evidence of pre-concepted theories and their new dimension on the ciberspace context. It\'s supposed that the public opinion can influence on the tradicional politic system. It\'s possible to observe an exchanging relation between the work of the community member by the personal needs. Than it\'s suggested there is a specific market in this organization although there isn\'t a financial relation. Another caractheristic refers of the fact to the organization\'s members deal with project\'s transation costs. To conclude, it\'s observed that the work which supports the organization can be a base to analyse all the organizations models in a unique theoretical bundle.

The Study of the Relationship between Internet Development and National Society in Mainland ChinaLu, Li-Shu 27 July 2006 (has links)
Since the Chinese Communist Party established a government in 1949, this country has operated the control of the society, nearly via penetrating to the society interior basic-level organization. After the political reform of social structure and economic basis, the Communist China has determined her pattern of penetration, mobilization and control in the society. As domination of the media has been one of the pivotal means in society control, the Communist China official can decide which information people may receive through the strict news scrutiny, and takes advantage of this method to instill people the official ideology as well. News involves the social turmoil, affects the populace confidence to the government or implies the peaceful evolution, is forbidden to disseminate on the mainland media. However, the Internet¡¦s unbounded penetration turns out to be a big challenge to impose such a strict scrutiny, challenging the Communist China to carry on the traditional way of controlling the society by maneuvering the media.
To the Chinese government which has not been used to considering the populace opinion, what more and more disadvantageous is that the Internet has started to become a newborn power to be able to affect the Chinese politics and the policy decision, even although policy makers would not defer to the public opinion in doing the decision-making, they would not be able to shun it entirely.
This article is to research and discuss, mainly from the aspects of social consciousness, nation and society relations, national sovereignty and so on, the Internet development in mainland and the control by the Communist China. Simultaneously, from the dissemination function and the characteristic of the Internet, it is to inspect its influence to the country and the society nowadays, furthermore, to extrapolate the possibility of network democracy.
Given the fact that Internet may bring the consequences of loosing the control on country and society, the Communist China has established the comprehensive control measure, preventing by all means the so-called harmful information to circulate, achieving also the effect of threat and restriction while she is developing with all her strength. The challenge to the authority renews as the code-breaking technology renews with each passing day, also. Therefore we may extrapolate accordingly that the Internet development has caused the Communist China¡¦s authority to decline day after day. And the society may obtain the relative development of independency and diversity.
Presently in China, the population ever accesses the internet already exceeds one hundred million. Although it is less than 8% of the total population and still a long way to go to accomplish overall popularized, the new community group and network consciousness already take the berth of the traditional dissemination media. Along with the rising of the young, non-ideological and malleable network new generation, it inevitably will accelerate the deepening of affecting the society. Therefore, this topic also will be worth continuing to observe and research.

Rapid Mission Assurance Assessment via Sociotechnical Modeling and SimulationLanham, Michael J. 01 May 2015 (has links)
How do organizations rapidly assess command-level effects of cyber attacks? Leaders need a way of assuring themselves that their organization, people, and information technology can continue their missions in a contested cyber environment. To do this, leaders should: 1) require assessments be more than analogical, anecdotal or simplistic snapshots in time; 2) demand the ability to rapidly model their organizations; 3) identify their organization’s structural vulnerabilities; and 4) have the ability to forecast mission assurance scenarios. Using text mining to build agent based dynamic network models of information processing organizations, I examine impacts of contested cyber environments on three common focus areas of information assurance—confidentiality, integrity, and availability. I find that assessing impacts of cyber attacks is a nuanced affair dependent on the nature of the attack, the nature of the organization and its missions, and the nature of the measurements. For well-manned information processing organizations, many attacks are in the nuisance range and that only multipronged or severe attacks cause meaningful failure. I also find that such organizations can design for resiliency and provide guidelines in how to do so.

Web news in China : a new hierarchy of centrality? : an analysis of the linking pattern of China’s online news networkChen, Xin, 1977 Aug. 2- 23 January 2012 (has links)
The present study explored three questions: What is the linking pattern of China’s cyber news space? What are the factors that contribute to this pattern? And what is the distribution of links in real geographic places?
The concept of the cyber news space refers to the globally connected networks of online news production. It is a tool to understand the spatial distribution of online news production and the map of the world as presented in the media.
This study is a content analysis of news Webpages from China’s four leading commercial portals. It sampled about 900 news Webpages during the spring of 2008. China’s commercial portals are news aggregators and distributors. They are the gatekeepers of China’s cyber news space. On their news Webpages there is one hyperlink that leads to the original publisher of the story. These links provide a clue of how news organizations were connected online. The content analysis coded these links and other information such as media type, production sites and locations of stories.
This study found that the there was a pattern of concentration in terms of the distribution of links among online news organizations. A multiple regression model was used to test the factors that may contribute to this pattern. It was found that geographic location of news organizations was such a factor. The more central a news organization was located, the more links it attracted from the portals.
In addition, this study also analyzed the distribution of links among difference provinces (or province level administrations) of China. It found that Beijing, Chongqing, Guangdong, Jilin, and Shanghai are hubs, while more remote provinces, such as Xinjiang, and Guizhou were largely bypassed. / text

Identities on the line : articulations of on and off-line communities amongst UK youthTwist, Joanna Louise January 2001 (has links)
This research presents empirical work which grounds the discourses of socially inclusive 'communities' in a 'global information society'. The empirical work focuses on a specific group of young people aged 11 to 25 living in one of the most ethnically diverse and poorest boroughs of London, Newham. The thesis explores the ways in which the group construct their 'online' community (Newham Young People Online) and how their identities as young people are re-produced through the interplay between their everyday and their technocultural lifeworlds. Key to the work is how the group is using and shaping ICTs and cyberspace(s), which are central to a 'global information society', in different ways: to explore creativity, to find diverse ways of self-expression, to understand 'difference' and to discover other spaces of learning and education against a background of social exclusion.
