Aplikace pro ovládání dohledového systému v obytných vozech / Application for Controll System in Caravan

This Master's thesis deals with the development of a mobile application for a control of the supervisory system in caravans and motorhomes. The thesis presents the currently available principles and research of the existing solutions. This custom solution includes an Android application and a desktop application of the central unit simulator of the supervisory system. The simulator is based on the Node.js and node-webkit technologies. The simulator communicates with the devices available via RF Transciever and it simulates other devices. The mobile application communicates with the simulator via Bluetooth Low Energy and GSM. Major part of the implementation description is devoted to the Bluetooth Low Energy technology and to issues, which are associated with it. The resulting solution puts emphasis on the usability of the user interface and the ability to supervise a wide range of connected devices. The system also implements custom logic alerts for tracked events. The thesis concludes with evaluation of the resulting system and outlining the future development options.

Music in the making: a case study of the Caravan Traditional Dance Group

Text in English / This case study of the Caravan Traditional Dance group profiles Musisinyani Mackson Mavunda‘s contribution to Tsonga music and dance performing arts. The lack of documentation of the work of Tsonga local traditional composers and choreographers is well-known in South Africa. This is echoed by Kidula (2006: 109), stating that ‗many studies from the continent have few outlets in the global academy, inasmuch as the work done by foreign researchers is barely known in much of Africa‘. A few years in the future, it will not be known who the composer of a certain song was, and what their intentions were in composing that particular song. Naturally the composers want to send a message to the community and sometimes to entertain the community or compose for a certain ritual. Composers need a considerable amount of planning and carefully chosen words, choreography and so on and this becomes apparent when taking into account the time and effort they put into composing a song. In response to this problem and by placing the composers‘ narratives at the centre, the study examines the role of the founder of the Caravan Traditional Dance group (CTD), Musisinyani Mackson Mavunda, and his contribution to Tsonga music and dance performing arts. This requires a critical examination of all aspects of his CTD professional career: his musical beginnings, teaching career, teaching of Tsonga traditional dances and his social and cultural heritage in the society. The key finding of this study was that Musisinyani distinguishes the humanity of others, which is Ubuntu philosophy. Music is power. It has power from within the composer. This is seen through the composer‘s confidence, assertiveness and motivation when composing songs. Music has the power to do; this is the listeners‘ choice. Through the power of music, people can gain skills; they may be productive and can network and be innovative. Music also has power over people, and the power to influence communities, thereby helping unite community members to work towards a common cause to achieve a common goal. It therefore gives communities strength and cohesion. As the community they have the power to challenge the status quo and to encourage one another. / Art History, Visual Arts and Musicology / M.Mus.

Au croisement de la sociologie des classes populaires et de la sociologie urbaine et du logement, cette thèse porte sur l’une des formes de logements non ordinaires qui a connu un développement massif en France dans les territoires ruraux et périurbains au cours de ces dernières années : le camping résidentiel. Combinant immersion ethnographique dans plusieurs campings de la région parisienne, entretiens, archives et statistiques, elle montre l’existence d’une véritable stratification interne à cet habitat, eu égard à l’hétérogénéité des situations résidentielles, des trajectoires, des ressources, des expériences et des styles de vie des habitants. Le camping résidentiel est de fait apparu comme remplissant trois grandes fonctions sociales segmentant la population qui le pratique : il peut représenter une alternative à la maison individuelle inaccessible, figurer un déclassement subjectif et objectif ou encore s’apparenter à une solution qui pallie la pénurie de logement abordable et évite le dénuement extrême de la rue. Inscrite dans une approche à la fois contextualiste et dispositionnaliste des manières d’habiter, la thèse rapporte ces trois fonctions du camping – qui constituent également trois styles de vie distincts – aux caractéristiques particulières de cette forme d’habitat non ordinaire mais aussi à des ressources, des trajectoires et des socialisations résidentielles différentes articulées à des dispositions populaires relativement homogènes. Elle identifie enfin les causes, les dynamiques et les conséquences des pratiques de délogement en documentant « de l’intérieur » un cas de fermeture de terrain de camping, exemple de concrétisation du risque associé au statut juridique de cet habitat. / This thesis finds itself at the intersection of the sociology of the working classes and urban sociology, with a special interest in housing. It focuses on one of the forms of non-ordinary housing that has seen massive development in France in recent years: residential camping. Combining an ethnographic immersion in several campsites in the Paris region, interviews, archives and statistics, it shows the existence of a real internal stratification within this habitat, taking into account the heterogeneity of residential situations, trajectories, resources, experiences and lifestyles of the inhabitants. Residential camping has in fact emerged as fulfilling three major social functions which segment the population that practices it: it may represent an alternative to the inaccessible single-family home, or stand as a subjective and objective downgrading or even be a solution that makes up for the shortage of affordable housing, thus preventing the extreme destitution of living in the streets. Illustrating a dispositionalist-contextualist approach to ways of living, the thesis connects these three functions of camping - which also constitute three distinct lifestyles - with the particular characteristics of this unusual form of housing. It also links it to different resources, trajectories and forms of residential socialisation corresponding to relatively homogeneous popular dispositions. Finally, it identifies the causes, dynamics and consequences of eviction practices by documenting "from the inside" the case of a campground closure, an example of the risk involved in the legal status of this habitat.

Les stations balnéaires britanniques : de la prospérité au déclin : le cas de Skegness sur la côte du Lincolnshire / British seaside resorts : from prosperity to decline : a case study of Skegness on the Lincolnshire coast

Cette thèse porte sur l’étude de la station balnéaire de Skegness et les vacances de la classe ouvrière en Grande Bretagne. Elle valide le déclin des stations balnéaires britanniques en tenant compte des expériences plurielles et des stratégies de régénération et de survie du tourisme balnéaire. Les deux premières parties de la thèse ont analysé le développement des vacances balnéaires, comme une alternative aux anciens loisirs, et démontré l’apparition de Skegness en tant que station balnéaire suite au changement des conditions socioéconomiques des ouvriers. Cette thèse a également détaillé comment Skegness a été promue comme une station balnéaire à l’époque en se focalisant sur le rôle joué par les compagnies ferroviaires dans la promotion de la station par le biais d’affiches et de publicité dans les journaux. L'étude du matériel promotionnel a démontré les changements dans l'image de la station balnéaire et le ton social annoncé dès les premières années de l'aménagement du village jusqu’à la fin du XXe siècle. Cette étude a ensuite démontré que cette ville balnéaire a vu apparaître tous types de vacances de classes ouvrières, en particulier l’apparition des maisons de vacances (plotland), des camps de vacances et de caravanes. Dans ce contexte, les camps de vacances ont été étudiés comme un aspect de commercialisation des vacances de la classe ouvrière. Enfin, cette étude a abordé le déclin de Skegness et a démontré que le tourisme à l'étranger a eu un effet néfaste sur les stations balnéaires britanniques ainsi que la détérioration de l'infrastructure et les mauvaises stratégies de marketing. Dans ce contexte de déclin, il a été démontré que Skegness a réussi dans une certaine mesure à survivre en tant que destination privilégiée des familles de la classe ouvrière Anglaise. / This thesis is a study of the seaside resort of Skegness and the working class seaside holiday. It validates the onset of decline on British seaside resorts, but confirms the plurality of experiences and the varieties of the strategies of regeneration and survival. The first two parts of the thesis analyse the growth of the seaside holiday as an alternative to old leisure and the growth of Skegness as a seaside resort within the dynamics of changing leisure and changing socio-economic conditions of workers. A second theme, related to the growth of the Skegness resort, which is a major thrust of this thesis, is an analysis of the way Skegness was promoted as a seaside resort. It is argued in this context that the railway, in addition to bringing holidaymakers to the resort, played a pivotal role in the promotion of the resort, especially through posters and to a lesser extent newspaper publicity. The study of promotional materials seeks also to demonstrate the changes in the resort image and social tone from the early years of the resort development until the late twentieth century. This study also addresses the decline of Skegness as a domestic holiday destination. It argues that holidays abroad had a detrimental effect on British seaside resorts in addition to the homegrown factors like the deteriorating resort infrastructure and the poor marketing strategies. Against this background of decline, it is shown that Skegness, despite the alarming deprivation indicators, managed to a certain extent to survive as a working class family destination.
