A continuation of the project is to examine whether new materials can be inserted into the device instead of the elastic composite. It is important that further development of the product is made together with a test group to gain answers about ease of use and other problems that can arise in everyday use. A continuation should also involve interviewing healthcare professionals who come into contact with the product.</p>

An exploratory analysis of differently focused women's organizations in community development and health.

Mogotlane, Sophie Mataniele. January 1996 (has links)
Two research methods, a correlational survey and a case study method were used to explore the impact of health focused and economic focused women's organizations on community development and health. Through the study the following questions were answered: (i) Is there a difference in the health and development indicators of the households of Elim Care Group Project members, Akanani members and members of the community who do not belong to any of the organizations? (ii) What contribution have these organizations made to individuals' and/or communities' way of life? (iii) What aspects of these organizations' structure and/or function strengthen or weaken the organization? For the correlational survey, quantitative data were collected from three categories of thirty households each that belonged to Care Group members, Akanani members and community members who did not belong to any organization. The analysis of the data showed that both the health focused and economic focused organizations kept their focus even though their functioning tended to overlap. The health focused group had a greater impact on health indicators e.g. number of diarrhoea episodes, respiratory tract infection episodes, nutritional state, while the economic focused group had greater impact on development indicators e.g. housing, income and education. The improvement in the development indicators did not influence the health indicators directly. The qualitative data collected for the case study provided an indepth information about the case studied. The health focused organization demonstrated stability in its management. This was composed of health personnel under the employment of the Department of Health Managing the Care Group was a paid job for them. The organization was established and supported by the community and therefore expressed the community's concerns. The economic focused organization provided opportunities for the rural people to establish money making enterprises. Some of the problems shown in this study in this regard relate to poor managerial and business skills that resulted in the production of products that were not readily marketable in the locality. This caused a lot of anxiety amongst members as earnings were irregular. The differences in the structure and functioning of the groups were analysed. These influenced the effectiveness and continued viability of the organizations. / Thesis (Ph.D.)-University of Natal, Durban, 1996.

Vårdares upplevelser av barriärer till MIG-aktivering : En integrativ litteraturöversikt / Carers' experiences of barriers to MIG-activation : A integrative literature review

Derenius, Sara, Dahlbäck, Archie January 2023 (has links)
Mobile intensive care teams (MIG) are set up in hospitals worldwide, as a resource to activate when patients deteriorate. MIG, with its specialist skills, reduces the number of serious events in hospitals and reduces mortality when used correctly. Despite this, there are indications that MIG is underused and currently there is a need for overviews of the current state of knowledge. The purpose of the study is therefore to describe careers’ experiences of barriers to MIG activation. The study is conducted as an integrative literature review consisting of 16 articles, seven quantitative, six qualitative and three with a mixed method. The literature search was conducted in January 2023 in the databases Cinahl and Medline and generated a total of 1835 search hits. A systematics election process and quality review of the literature was carried out and in connection with the data analysis three overarching themes were formed. These themes are named the importance of the organization for MIG activation, the importance of the level of knowledge for MIG activation and the importance of attitudes for MIG activation. The results show that MIG situations trigger a spectrum of complex challenges for the careers’ involved, mainly consisting of routine, knowledge-related and sociocultural reasons. The ward nurse's role is to assess when a MIG activation needs to be done. This can lead to feelings of inadequacy, and questioning of one's own competence, based on, among other things, negative attitudes and a lack of interprofessional cooperation. The MIG nurse has a multifaceted task which includes, among other things, having a holistic perspective and working in a structured way to stabilize patients, communicate and delegate tasks based on observations. These tasks are integrated with forming a mentoring role for the ward nurse, where it is important not to neglect concerns. From a patient perspective, a vulnerable patient with a great need for care is seen. There is a risk for missed care related to to non-existent MIG activation. Accordingly, proper use of MIG is warranted to promote health and prevent suffering.

En sista utväg : Sjuksköterskans upplevelse av MIG konsultation / A last resort : – Nurse´s experience of MIG consultation

Laurell, Johanna, Wigren, Emma January 2020 (has links)
Background: Nurses have a responsibility to early identify deteriorated patients in the general wards and contact the mobile intensive care group (MIG) for consultation. Studies have shown that patients with increased care needs may be in a ward that does not have the adequate staff and monitoring resources. These insufficient resources and nurses multiple patients at the same time implies a stressful work situation. Collaboration in teams between the intensive care nurse and the nurse is crucial for a MIG consultation to work. Aim: To illuminate the nurse's experience of collaboration with the intensive care nurseduring a MIG consultation. Method: Eight individual, semi-structured interviews with nursesworking at four care wards were analysed using inductive qualitative content analysis. Results: The analysis result was presented in four sub-categories, two categories and one theme. The overall theme a last resort described that MIG was there to support the nurses andit was safe to have the MIG at the hospital. How the collaboration with MIG was experienced depended on intensive care nurses´ attitude towards the nurses, such as their understanding of the nurses´ work situation and respected the nurses´ knowledge. How the collaboration worked with the intensive care nurses depended on how the nurses were treated at the MIG-consultations. Conclusion: Most nurses has a positive experience of working with the intensive care nurse, but there were difficulties with the team collaboration. However, difficulties may arise which are based on the condescending attitudes of the intensive care nurses. The intensive care nurses must understand the nurses' work situation and have reasonable expectations of them.

Assessment of community health volunteers' knowledge regarding infant and young child feeding in Tewor District, Grand Cape Mount County, Liberia

Demissie, Shiferaw Dechasa 12 March 2013 (has links)
The objectives of the study were to determine infant and young child feeding (IYCF) knowledge of Household Health Promoters (HHPs) and examine its relationship with demographic characteristics. Quantitative, non-experimental descriptive design was used. Seventy-one randomly selected HHPs participated in the study. A structured questionnaire was used to collect the data. The results showed that the mean IYCF knowledge score was 77.8% (N=71). The knowledge of the respondents was not uniform across the components of IYCF which ranged between 19.72% for duration of breastfeeding to 100% for colostrums feeding. None of the socio-demographic characteristic was significantly associated to the mean knowledge score. The study identified that refresher training should be provided to the HHPs on IYCF with emphasis on the aspects of IYCF with scores below the mean / Health Studies

Applying the Care Group Model in relief contexts : case studies in South Sudan and Somalia

Damaris, Peter 11 1900 (has links)
Text in English / This study analyses the application of a community based intervention, the Care Group (CG) model, in relief work in Somalia and South Sudan. On the basis of expert interviews and a variety of documents it was researched whether the CG model is applicable to the context mentioned or if adaptations would be necessary. An increase in prolonged crises challenges humanitarian action to adapt relief work to longer-term interventions. The concept of combining the strengths of development cooperation and humanitarian action - Linking Relief, Rehabilitation and Development - is looked at in this study. Furthermore, for example, the asset-based community development approach, humanitarian work and characteristics of a protracted crisis were explored as the theoretical back-ground. The findings and the conclusion of this research may provide inputs for other humanitarian NGOs that are working in chronic conflict situations and being confronted with the need to introduce a long-term method for Behaviour Change Communication. / Development Studies / M.A. (Development Studies)
