Cherry Casino : - en kommunikationsgranskning

Abstract Purpose/Aim: The purpose of this paper was to identify the communication process at the company Cherry casino and see what opinions the employees had about it. Moreover, an evaluation of the used strategies was done and an analysis about what perhaps could be done to improve the attitude, communication and in the end the result for the company. Material/Method: The empirical material was gathered through qualitative interviews and theory application. Main results: The transmission of information regarding the regular work related information works just fine and the channels used are well chosen. But more large-scale information that deals with the company’s plans, strategies and targets is not handled in the right way. Neither is the respond. Many express a lack of dialogue. Therefore my main conclusions is to develop a more friendly touch within the company, create a dialogue and let people at the bottom of the hierarchy know what is happening. The best way to do this is through the Intranet and the increase of positive feedback. Keywords: Organizational communication, internal communication, casino, communication audit

Teorinėje darbo dalyje analizuojamos azartinių lošimų savybės, subtilybės, lošėjų motyvacija lošti. Pateikiami galimi lošėjų segmentavimo pavyzdžiai, komunikacijos modelis azartinių lošimų rinkai. Analitinėje baigiamojo darbo dalyje pateikiami ir analizuojami rezultatai azartinių lošimų žaidėjų tyrimo, atlikto anketinės apklausos metodu, bei pateikiama Lietuvoje veikiančių lošimo namų internetinių svetainių turinio analizė. Projektinėje darbo dalyje suformuluoti tokie sprendimai: sukurti lošėjų poreikius atitinkančią internetinę svetainę, dalinti narystės korteles, kuponus, nuolaidas, suvenyrus. Taip pat siūloma kurti socialiai atsakingų įmonių įvaizdį prisidedant prie visuomenės informavimo apie lošimų galimą žalą, spaudoje skelbti apie didžiausius laimėjimus, aprašyti lošėjų sėkmės istorijas, organizuojamus banketus, renginius. Virtuali erdvė turi būti naudojama megzti dialogui su lošėju ir grįžtamojo ryšio skatinimui. Siūlomas darbuotojų mokymų rengimas, kvalifikacijos kėlimo kursai, psichologinis paruošimas, aptarnavimo standartai. Rekomenduojama lošimo namus įrengti pagal pasirinktą tematiką, pritaikyti interjero detales, personalo aprangą, nuolat atnaujinti kazino įrangą. / In the theoretical part of this diploma paper gaming features and gambler‘s motivations to gamble are being analysed. It also provides examples of potential gamblers segmentation and a communication model in gaming market. Analytical part is revealing the results of the gamblers research carried out by a questionnaire survey method. It also provides the analysis of the Lithuanian casinos website contents. In the third part of the diploma paper decisions are formulated as follows: to develop a website which meets all the needs of gamblers, to distribute the membership cards, coupons, discounts, souvenirs. It is recommended to create a socially responsible corporate image by contributing to public awareness of the potential harm of gaming, to publish in the press about the greatest achievements of gamblers, their success stories, banquets and events. Virtual space must be used to establish a dialogue and back-links with a player. Furthermore, the staff must be trained, have a psychological preparation and act according to service standards. Casinos should choose a theme for the interior, customize its staff clothing and regularly update casino software.

Spaces of social compulsion : a case study of the Sugarmill Casino, Durban.

This thesis explores gambling as a leisure activity and consumption experience. Casino development in South Africa - formerly illegal in the country - is occurring at an unprecedented rate. In 1996. the new democratic Govemment passed legislation to allow up to forty casinos to be developed throughout South Africa. This was viewed as a means of developing tourism as well as the input of revenue into the country's economy. South Africa's gambling industry is now similar to that of the United States and Australia. Starting with remotely situated casinos, accessible primarily to upper income clientele, legislation has softened to allow for the licensing of casinos within the major urban areas of this country. This has led to casino gambling being accessible to thousands of people, those who can afford to indulge in this leisure activity and those who cannot. This thesis explores the engineering of space to create an atmosphere of compulsion, and the response of communities given access, for the first time, to casino gambling close to home. The second legal casino in KwaZulu-Natal, the "SugarMill Casino", opened on 2 February 2001, on a temporary site in Mount Edgccombe, north of Durban, adjacent to the predominantly Indian suburb of Phoenix. Phoenix was planned and developed in 1976, as a residential area for the low-income Indian population. Therefore, the location of this casino has been subject 10 much criticism. This study looks at the symbolic economy of the SugarMill casino in terms of the symbols used in marketing the casino as well as its architectural symbolism. The symbolic economy of the casino uses locally based ' cultural capital ' to create a space of compulsion, through space planning and marketing campaigns. Although the casino has only being in operation for a short time, an important aim of this thesis is to determine whether these strategies are working and why. The perceptions and attitudes of Phoenix residents towards the casino, their use of and expenditure at the facility as well as the creation of problem or compulsive gamblers are explored. The importance of gambling in relation to other leisure activities is also assessed. The findings of this study suggest that the architectural theme and symbols as well as the marketing campaigns employed by the SugarMill casino have been successful in attracting gamblers to the casino because the majority of respondents have visited the casino and gambled there. Whilst gambling is not the main leisure activity that respondents engage in, it is certainly a significant form of leisure since forty-eight percent of the sample cited gambling as their main leisure activity. Reasons for this vary but contribut ing factors include the accessibility of the casino in close proximity to their homes as well as the general lack of a variety of recreational alternatives in Phoenix. / Thesis (M.Sc.)-University of Natal, Durban, 2001.

The Role of Generation Volume and Photon Recycling in "Transport Imaging" of Bulk Materials

Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited. / The goal of this research was to use Monte Carlo simulations to further develop the model that describes transport imaging by including a more realistic description of the generation region created by the incident electrons. Monte Carlo simulation can be used to determine the energy distribution in bulk materials due to the interaction with incident electrons. In the simulation, the incident electrons undergo both elastic and inelastic scattering events. Through these events, the energy of the electrons is transferred to the target materials. This deposited energy can generate electron-hole pairs and then, via recombination, photons. In the experimental work, these photons are measured by a CCD camera connected to an optical microscope in a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Monte Carlo simulations were performed for a range of target materials and compared to the luminescence distributions measured experimentally. The simulated energy distributions are always spatially narrower than the optical image from the SEM. We propose possible explanations that need to be evaluated: the relationship between deposited energy and final electron distributions in the target material and photon recycling, in which locally generated photons are reabsorbed to produce a wider luminescence distribution. Further experiments are proposed to identify the limiting factors determining the minimum luminescence distribution.

Gambling and mankind are linked together for thousands of years. Despite its negative influence, gambling games take an essential part in life of every generation. The main aim of this thesis is to analyse environment for casino start-up in six selected countries from central Europe and recommend the country with the most suitable conditions. The casino parameters will be defined in the particular chapter of the thesis. Countries, that will be compared, are Slovak republic, Czech republic, Hungary, Austria, Poland and Ukraine. The comparison will respect law systems of every country, which regulate the casino business. Information, we get from conducting the research, will be taken in mind in decision making process. To make the choice of the appropriate country (variant), two methods for comparing variants are used, in order to achieve objective result. In the end of the thesis, there will be a recommendation based on the results of the comparison. It should be noted that the recommendation will be based also on subjective evaluation.

De utländska spelbolagens omfattande marknadsföring mot den svenska marknaden är påtaglig och de senaste åren har omsättningen av spelrelaterad reklam ökat markant. Denna ökning sker trots det svenska spelmonopolet som innebär att endast bolag med licens utfärdat av staten får verka och marknadsföra sig i Sverige. Hur är det möjligt för de utländska spelbolagen att trots detta ägna sig åt denna omfattande marknadsföring? Det finns en konflikt mellan de utländska spelbolagen och svenska myndigheter som lett till att regeringen tillsatt en utredning i vilken en omreglering av den svenska marknaden undersökts. Utöver konflikten mellan spelbolagen och myndigheterna finns även en fråga om CSR, samhällsansvar och marknadsföringsetik som går bortom det legala. Denna rapport har genom kvalitativa intervjuer undersökt olika perspektiv ispelbranschen och arbetat utifrån tre olika teman som alla är avgörande för att besvarade centrala frågeställningarna. / The online gambling companies extensive marketing towards the Swedish market is significant and in recent years, the sales of game-related advertising have increased significantly. This increase occurs despite the Swedish gaming monopoly, which means that only companies licensed by the state may operate and market in Sweden. How is it possible for foreign gaming companies to engage in this extensive marketing? There is a conflict between the foreign online gambling companies and Swedish authorities which led to the government appointing an investigation in which a reorganization of the Swedish market was investigated. In addition to the conflict between gaming companies and the authorities, there is also a matter of corporate social responsibility and marketing ethics that go beyond the legal issues. Through qualitative interviews, this report has investigated different perspectives in the gaming industry and worked on three different themes, all of which are crucial for answering the key.

Organisations in South Africa are facing many local and global pressures for reconfiguration through various interventions that encourage global integration and competitiveness, and simultaneously aim to promote social redress and empowerment of the previously disadvantaged in the region. Organisations are required to achieve global competitiveness and economic success, as well as simultaneously allow for redistribution. The aim of the research reported on here, was to explore the influences of local and global trends on the structures and practices of organisations. Questions were asked about the imperatives behind these dynamics specifically those of global competitiveness and local redress, as well as the feasibility of realising these apparently contradictory demands. This was done through a case study of the Monte Vista Hollywood and Sugar Mill Casinos in KwaZulu-Natal, and a comparison with U.S. Indian Reservation casinos. The research findings showed that the responses to the global pressures of competitiveness and local pressures of social redress used by the two casinos, were at times contradictory, questioning whether the industry would have the envisaged positive impacts of economic growth and social redistribution.
