This is a comprehensive and qualitative study carried out with parents of children undergoing outpatient chemotherapy treatment at a specialized hospital in the interior of the State of Paraná. Data collection took place through a focus group from January to February 2018, after approval by the Ethics and Research Committee of Botucatu Medical School - Paulista State University "Júlio de Mesquita Filho". The data were submitted to the content analysis proposed by Bardin and discussed according to the Betty Neuman Systems Model. As a result, the study is composed of the majority of young women, married, with full secondary education and living in cities near the place where the outpatient chemotherapy treatment of their children is done. The results point to the creation of three thematic categories: 1. Stressors: caring for the child at home after outpatient chemotherapy; 2. Interaction with the environment: coexisting with cancer and with outpatient chemotherapy; and 3. Parents' reaction: overcoming having a child with cancer and in outpatient chemotherapy. It is concluded that for parents to live with cancer, chemotherapeutic treatment and care of children at home involves suffering and uncertainties. This experience is permeated by stressors in regard to changes in family dynamics and structure, lack of ... (Complete abstract click electronic access below) / Mestre

Nutrition Knowledge and Child Care Feeding Practices of Early Childhood Education Students: A Preliminary StudyWhite, Sarah Jill 01 May 2011 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to describe the nutrition knowledge and child care feeding practices of Early Childhood Education students in a university setting. Thirty-three Early Childhood Education students from seven geographically diverse universities completed a web-based survey assessing nutrition knowledge and child feeding practices. A nutrition knowledge instrument was developed and validated to measure knowledge of nutrition for preschool-aged children. The Comprehensive Feeding Practices Questionnaire, which has been previously validated in parents, was slightly modified and used to assess child feeding practices. Mean scores for the nutrition knowledge and child feeding practices were determined. Multivariate analyses were conducted to determine differences in mean nutrition knowledge and feeding practices scores across sample characteristics. Early Childhood Education students were found to have more knowledge of MyPyramid food groups and dietary sources of nutrients than dietary intake recommendations for preschool-aged children. Students who had completed a college-level nutrition course scored higher on MyPyramid food groups and food sources of nutrients than those who had not, although these differences were not statistically significant. A nonsignificant trend was observed in knowledge of dietary recommendations according to practicum status. Additionally, students who had not started a practicum reported using food as a reward significantly more than students who had completed a practicum. Results suggest roles for both nutrition coursework and practicum training in optimizing nutrition knowledge and child feeding practices among future leaders in early childhood education. Further research is needed to more clearly identify nutrition knowledge and child feeding practices in this population.

Betriebliche Gesundheitsförderung in Kindertagesstätten - Überprüfung der Eignung von Gesundheitszirkeln in einem Pilotprojekt / Workplace Health Promotion in Child Care - Evaluation of Health Circles in a Model ProjectKhan, Attiya 14 January 2006 (has links) (PDF)

Caregivers in nonprofit and private child care centers: a qualitative analysis of perceptions of auspice and job satisfactionClark, Kathryn Anne Mack 11 1900 (has links)
This study focused on two factors, auspice and job
satisfaction, which have been shown to impact on the quality of
child care programs. However, while research has indicated that
auspice, job satisfaction, and program quality are intertwined,
there is a lack of research which explores these factors
qualitatively. There is also a dearth of research which has
considered auspice from the caregivers' perspectives. Hence, the
purpose of this study was to explore the meaning that caregivers
give to auspice in their work in nonprofit and for-profit child
care centers. As well, this study sought to examine the
relationship between auspice and job satisfaction from the
caregiver's point of view, paying close attention to differences
in job satisfaction that existed between staff employed in
nonprofit centers and staff who worked in private or for-profit
centers.
A series of qualitative, in-depth interviews were conducted
with eight child care workers from the Vancouver Metropolitan
area. Four of the participants were employed in or owned private
centers and four of the participants worked in nonprofit centers.
Positive and negative perceptions of both nonprofit and private
auspice emerged. In particular, the nonprofit participants
believed that child care should be operated as a service and not
a business. They perceived that the motive to make a profit in
child care lead for-profit centers to sacrifice quality in order
to cut costs and maximize profits. On the other hand, the for-
profit participants perceived that their centers provided high quality care and were dedicated to putting the needs of children
and staff first.
In general, the participants'' perceptions of factors that
influenced their job satisfaction were similar across auspices.
The nature of child care work and supportive relationships with
co-workers were factors which positively influenced job
satisfaction while the perceived lack of status in the eyes of
society negatively affected satisfaction. Differences in job
satisfaction according to auspice were found on several factors,
such as government policies and a perceived lack of enough time
to accomplish job duties.
