Using Latent Discourse Indicators to identify goodness in online conversationsAyush Jain (6012219) 16 January 2020 (has links)
In this work, we model latent discourse indicators to classify constructive and collaborative conversations online. Such conversations are considered good as they are rich in content and have a sense of direction to resolve an issue, solve a problem or gain new insights and knowledge. These unique discourse indicators are able to characterize flow of information, sentiment and community structure within discussions. We build a deep relational model that captures these complex discourse behaviors as latent variables and make a global prediction about overall conversation based on these higher level discourse behaviors. DRaiL, a Declarative Deep Relational Learning platform built on PyTorch, is used for our task in which relevant discourse behaviors are formulated as discrete latent variables and scored using a deep model. These variables capture the nuances involved in online conversations and provide the information needed for predicting the presence or absence of collaborative and constructive characterization in the entire conversational thread. We show that the joint modeling of such competing latent behaviors results in a performance improvement over the traditional direct classification methods in which all the raw features are just combined together to predict the final decision. The Yahoo News Annotated Comments Corpus is used as a dataset containing discussions on Yahoo news forums and final labels are annotated based on our precise and restricted definitions of positively labeled conversations. We formulated our annotation guidelines based on a sample set of conversations and resolved any conflict in specific annotation by revisiting those examples again.

Potential of Blockchain and Cryptoeconomics in Developing Independent and Constructive Journalism : Case Study on Steem Blockchain and Steemit NetworkAlkhalaf, Khalaf January 2020 (has links)
Advanced Technology drives the increasing anti-censorship, decentralised social media networks, and publishing platforms that are based on blockchain, where no single party can control these platforms, which results in safeguarding information circulation, freedom to publish, and independence of journalism. Furthermore, cryptoeconomics associated with blockchain creates an easy economic model to find sustainable financing for independent journalism by Initial Coin Offering. Meanwhile, adopting a reward system by these publishing platforms has generated sustainable income sources for content creators, allowing them to be independent and motivated to create high-quality constructive content, which contributes to developing communities through disbursing knowledge in forms of constructive journalism. This study presents the potential of blockchain and cryptoeconomics in developing independent and constructive journalism, especially in developing countries. Through analysing the structure of Steem Blockchain, and empirical analysis of journalistic content on Steemit network in terms of the amount of payout that content creators and curators receive, based on the system of reward according to the content value that is determined by community member voting. Besides selected sample interviews with journalists, writers, and publishers in the Arab World which is undergoing turmoil and transition and needs constructive journalism, asking for their opinions about the potential that blockchain and cryptoeconomics have to support independent and constructive journalism. The results of the study demonstrated that journalistic posts classified under constructive journalism could achieve a high payout according to the reward system based on community voting for the content value. Meanwhile, journalists and writers have expected that this new economic model can enhance the financial independence of journalists and develop independent and constructive journalism in developing countries.

Současné podoby vědeckého realismu / Contemporary forms of scientific realismZach, Martin January 2016 (has links)
The topic of this diploma thesis is the position of scientific realism presented in the framework of naturalized philosophy of science. The aim is to clarify this position and to show that if one denies realism, scientific practice does not make sense. For this purpose main focus is first devoted to the key parts (metaphysical realism, semantic realism, and epistemological realism) which constitute the scientific realism. Next, a detailed analysis of the arguments against and in favor of realism is offered, and concrete examples taken from the sciences are used to illustrate key points. Space is also devoted to the analysis of a physical theory of heat of the 18th and 19th centuries in connection with an antirealist argument directed at the history of science. Also, one of the few fully elaborated antirealist positions, constructive empiricism, is presented and critically evaluated. In a similar fashion, this thesis pays attention to a specific form of realism, called entity realism. Though the resulting image is a thoroughly realist position, this position strives to accurately capture the numerous nuances of the scientific practice, offering a fresh perspective on some of the traditional views.

This Master's thesis discusses the Problem - based learning as one of the constructive teaching concept methods, it's position in the system of teaching methods and the possible uses in primary school regard to the key competencies of solving the problems. This theme is very actual because of the influence in the real life. The objectives of the Master's thesis is to define the basic concept of the Problem-based learning (problem, problematic situations, types of the problematic tasks and the way of their solving), key competencies and appropriate organizational forms of the teaching. The objective of the practical level is to define the principles of the effective use of this method in teaching, to verify the possibilities of uses of the Problem-based learning and focus on the way of fulfilling of the key competencies of solving the problems using various organizational forms of teaching. The thesis contains the empirical and theoretical part. The empirical part comes from the analysis and the comparation of the study of the vocational literature. This part focuses on the research as the method of achieving the goals. The research uses two basic methods; the method of the observation of the pupils during their work and method of the collection and analysis of the outcome of the pupils work. The...

Visible Light Communication as a material for design / Kommunikation med synligt ljus som ett design materialWindlin, Charles January 2016 (has links)
Visible light communication (VLC) is a novel complement to Radio Frequency Communication (RFC) and has many applications in wireless communication, indoor positioning and where RFC is not applicable. The problem is that the technology is black-boxed and therefore hard to apply in today’s design process. For designers to be able to use VLC in their creative process, this study uses the Inspirational Bits approach to expose the materiality of VLC by asking the question: How can we design artefacts that allow designers to engage in a conversation with Visible Light Communication as a material? Through Constructive Design Research, the technology was studied in iterations by building prototypes and reflecting on them. The prototypes are evaluated in two design workshops through observation and gathered feedback from 11 participants. As a result, seven artefacts were constructed to expose seven potential material properties of VLC. The observations and collected feedback show also that the artefacts help designers to gain tacit knowledge about VLC. The artefacts use the Arduino platform and standard electrical components. A by-product of this study is the "lumoino" toolkit for tinkering and prototyping with VLC. Eventually, strengths and weaknesses are discussed, and future work sections show the potential extensions of the artefacts and expansions of the toolkit. En biprodukt av denna studie är ”the lumoino toolkit for tinkering and prototyping with VLC”. Eventuella styrkor och svagheter diskuteras och stycket framtida arbete visar potentiella utvecklingar och expantioner av ”the lumoino toolkit”.

Kursutvärdering på Volvo Construction Equipment / Course Evaluation at Volvo Construction EquipmentAsserstam, Christoffer January 2016 (has links)
In this report an evaluation of current evaluation methods at Volvo CE Service School, which further educates technicians, will be presented. Data from observation and interviews, focusing on constructive alignment and course evaluations is analyzed. It turned out to be inadequate constructive alignment and course evaluations do not provide sufficient information. Through the development of the constructive alignment and by using well-formulated learning outcomes the technicians learning should be enhanced. Also the design of the course evaluation with questions that examines learning factors should contribute to development of the training.
