As desigualdades entre os gêneros reforçam uma estrutura social injusta entre os homens e as mulheres, que valida a superioridade de um sobre outro. E, como forma de manutenção de um status ou ordem, atribui poderes desiguais entre eles, com uma distribuição diferente de direitos e deveres. Mesmo em ambientes em que se pressupõe igualdade, é possível encontrar diferença na distribuição do poder. Nas sociedades em que predomina essa desigualdade, a violência contra as mulheres torna-se uma prática recorrente. Tendo isso em vista, o objetivo central da presente pesquisa é investigar como a violência é construída e justificada no romance o remorso de baltazar serapião, do escritor português valter hugo mãe. Pretendemos examinar o tratamento dispensado à figura feminina pelo narrador-protagonista, a partir das situações em que a violência contra a mulher ocorre no romance e analisar o seu posicionamento diante disso. Apesar de tratar-se de uma obra contemporânea, publicada em 2006, o enredo evoca um período distante no tempo, que se assemelha à Idade Média, já que remete a relações entre senhores e servos, relações em que a concepção de igualdade social entre os sujeitos não existia. Apesar de muitas práticas violentas não serem consideradas crimes, acreditamos que seja importante para nossa pesquisa compreender e analisar essas situações de violência. Espera-se, com esta dissertação, contribuir tanto aos estudos de Literatura Portuguesa quanto, especificamente, aos estudos do premiado romance de valter hugo mãe, e ampliar as reflexões sobre a permanência da violência de gênero na sociedade contemporânea, possibilitada pelo enfoque dado à questão em o remorso de baltazar serapião. / Gender inequalities reinforce an unfair social structure between men and women, which validates the superiority of one over the other. Also, as a way of maintaining a status or order, it attributes unequal powers between them, with different distributions of rights and duties. Even in environments where equality is assumed, it is possible to find some difference in the distribution of power. In societies where this inequality prevails, violence against women becomes a recurring practice. Keeping this in mind, the main objective of the present research is to investigate how violence is constructed and justified in the novel o remorso de baltazar serapião by the Portuguese writer valter hugo mãe. We intend look through the treatment given to the female figure by the narrator-protagonist, from situations in which violence against woman occurs in the novel and analyze its position taking this into account. Although it is a contemporary work, published in 2006, the plot evokes a period distant in time, that reminds the Middle Ages, since it refers to relations between masters and servants, relations in which the conception of social equality between subjects did not exist. While many violent practices are not considered crimes, we believe that it is important, on behalf of our research, to understand and analyze these situations of violence. It is expexted that this dissertation will contribute not only to studies in Portuguese Literature, but also, and specifically, to studies on the awarded novel by valter hugo mãe, and to expand the reflections upon the continuance of gender violence in contemporary society, made possible by the focus given to the issue in o remorso de baltazar serapião.

At first, the Portuguese literature scenery was presented, from the end of the twentieth century until the present time, outlining the fictional mechanisms that bring important authors from this period closer. Subsequently, it is shown how elements from tradition and postmodernity dialogue in the aforementioned novel. Lastly, we analyzed the self-gnostic path of the narrator and novel itself. The narrator’s search for knowledge is undertaken initially at a thematic scope, however, through the analysis of this narrator it is possible to notice that his search goes beyond the thematic level and the metalinguistic weight, already in evidence through its name, Livro, and it reaches the structural plan of the novel. Bearing in mind this important aspect of the novel, this research is willing to reveal the metafictional process of constitution of this narrative, relying on the concepts of Linda Hutcheon, Patricia Waugh e Gustavo Bernardo, on metafiction. Furthermore, this thesis also means to demonstrate how the search for this wandering narrator, this problematic hero (concepts, respectively, suggested by Álvaro Cardoso Gomes e Georg Lukács) – shattered, ripped – culminates in a novel also fragmented and, therefore, reflecting the attempt of rescue of an apparently lost totality / Esta dissertação tem como proposta primeira avaliar o percurso do narrador peixotiano em busca do autoconhecimento e mostrar como este trajeto culmina na busca da narrativa pela sua autognose, além de apresentar de que modo Peixoto concilia a tradição e a pós-modernidade em Livro. Inicialmente, foi exposto o cenário da literatura portuguesa, desde o fim do século XX até a atualidade, traçando os mecanismos ficcionais que aproximam importantes autores deste período. Posteriormente, mostramos como elementos da tradição e da pósmodernidade dialogam no romance supracitado. Por fim, analisamos o percurso autognóstico do narrador e da própria obra literária. A busca do narrador pelo autoconhecimento é empreendida inicialmente no âmbito temático, porém, ao acompanhar a trajetória deste narrador, é possível perceber que a sua busca extrapola o plano temático e a carga metalinguística, já evidenciada pelo nome dele, Livro, e alcança o plano estrutural do romance. Tendo em vista este importante aspecto do romance, esta pesquisa dispõe-se a revelar o processo metaficcional de constituição dessa narrativa, apoiando-se nos conceitos de Linda Hutcheon, Patricia Waugh e Gustavo Bernardo, acerca da metaficção. Ademais, este trabalho visa também a demonstrar como a busca desse narrador errante, desse herói problemático (conceitos, respectivamente, sugeridos por Álvaro Cardoso Gomes e Georg Lukács) – estilhaçado, esfacelado – culmina num romance também fragmentado e, portanto, refletindo a tentativa de resgate de uma totalidade aparentemente perdida

O presente estudo é fruto de múltiplas leituras do romance inaugural de José Cardoso Pires, O Anjo Ancorado, cuja escrita de cunho metafórico desvela a óptica de um autor muito além das tendências iniciais do Neorrealismo português. Quanto à estrutura, o referido romance apresenta traços sugestivos de um escritor ainda influenciado pelas linhas do conto, que acaba por revelar a sua própria gênese da escritura .Portanto, estabelecido um percurso de interpretação à luz da estrutura interna do romance, buscou-se em seguida uma leitura de associação com os primeiros escritos do autor, o conto, levando-se em consideração o livre diálogo entre gêneros. / This study presents a considerable amount of reading on the first novel written by José Cardoso Pires, O Anjo Ancorado, whose metaphorical writing sheds light on the views of a writer who assumed a substantial role in the so-called New Realism in Portugal. As to structure, the novel displays distinctive characteristics of a short story in view of the writer’s identity portrayal. The multiple interpretation based on the structure of the novel contributed to further comparisons with the writer’s first pieces of literature so as to put textual genres into perspective.

A presente dissertação pretende realizar uma leitura dos romances do escritor português Helder Macedo, Pedro e Paula, Sem nome e Natália, considerando como ponto principal de análise a construção das protagonistas femininas. A ficção do escritor português Helder Macedo recorre a artifícios narrativos permeados por incertezas e probabilidades para compor personalidades femininas complexas, em torno das quais são construídos mundos que aliam fatos históricos e acontecimentos ficcionais. A partir desses mundos, pretende-se refletir sobre o papel da mulher na sociedade contemporânea. Para tanto, realiza-se um estudo acerca do contexto histórico, da apropriação de referências intertextuais e da representação das personagens que habitam os romances, utilizando a contribuição das reflexões realizadas pela crítica feminista, acerca das questões sobre sujeito, identidade, gênero, sexo e sexualidade. Deste modo, pretende-se interpretar as personagens femininas e a representação do sujeito feminino suscitada por elas. / This thesis aims to accomplish a reading of the novels by the Portuguese writer Helder Macedo, Pedro e Paula, Sem Nome e Natália, considering as the main point of the analysis the construction of female protagonists. The fiction of the Portuguese writer Helder Macedo uses narrative devices permeated by uncertainty and probabilities to compose complex female personalities and construct worlds that combine historical facts and fictional events. From these worlds, we intend to reflect on the role of women in contemporary society. In order to do so, we make a study of the historical context, the appropriation of intertextual references and the representation of the characters that inhabit the novels, using the contribution of the considerations made by the feminist criticism about the issues on the subject, identity, gender, sex and sexuality. Thus, we intend to interpret the female characters and the representation of the female subject raised by them.
