Centrum Ponava Brno, Královo Pole / Ponava Centre Brno, Královo Pole

Chytilová, Markéta January 2014 (has links)
The main idea in dealing with my thesis was to design a high quality public space where people will feel comfortable, safely and have a reason to come back. Furthermore, this is the place to be full of life and will serve the general public. The cultural center, that was designed, to become part of Královo Pole cultural campus, so-called K2-center, which will create a basis for free time activities, relaxation and education. A significant part of the proposed building is made up of multi-functional hall, library, restaurant, teen center and spaces for leisure time activities. On the ground floor will be located business parter and coffee bar. The aim of my project was to take into account what is most needed for inhabitants of Královo Pole for the purpose to meet the demands for quality leisure time for the widest spectrum of people. There is an effort to place the object itself as the most sensitive, given the current surrounding areas. The aim was not to design a huge object but especially a pleasant environment functioning as a center of leisure time activities.

Centro Cultural Juvenil en Chorrillos

Mamani Casos, Miguel Rodrigo 01 November 2019 (has links)
The proposed project is a cultural center, whose main users are the young people of the district of Chorrillos. The statistics confirm that these users are the largest population in the district and share the same educational and socioeconomic conditions that leave them in a situation of social vulnerability, affecting their academic and professional future. Likewise, the cultural infrastructure offered by the Chorrillos district is not enough for the number of young people there is, so the lack of interest in making use of this cultural infrastructure is growing. These deficiencies will be taken as a basis to provide a new comprehensive program of cultural activities that contribute to the cultural development of the young population of the district, in an infrastructure that motivates them to use it. For the development, 3 international cultural centers were analyzed under the concepts of 3 books detailing the design of cultural facilities. Public space management of this type is essential. Reason why the emphasis on “permeable architecture” will be treated because of the importance that these places on the public space and 3 texts that detail its fundamental principles, as well as 3 referential projects will be analyzed. This project, finally, will seek to be a complement to the educational facilities of the district, allowing a better cultural development of the youth and adolescents of Chorrillos; as well as becoming an urban regenerative element and a space open to the community, where social ties are strengthened and provide better opportunities for personal growth. / Trabajo de investigación

Social, Demographic, and Institutional Effects on African American Graduation Rates in U.S. Colleges and Universities.

Wright, LaQueta L. 05 1900 (has links)
Improving the retention and graduation of African Americans and other minority groups in higher education is an important but highly politicized issue on college and university campuses. Prior studies emphasize the relationship between minority retention and achievement, cultural diversity, and racial policies and climates at predominantly White colleges and universities in the United States. In response to the need for further research, the effects of institutional actions related to diversity, minority group and African American retention, and social integration initiatives on African American graduation rates were examined for a national sample of United States (U.S.) colleges and universities. From a potential list of 7,018 colleges and universities, 2,233 met the inclusion criteria for the study. But necessary and complete information from national directories and the census could only be found for the final sample of 1,105. After dropping 30 outliers, several multiple regression analyses identified the institutional actions, social, and demographic factors that best predicted graduation rates. Public U.S. colleges and universities located in the Midwest region had lower African American graduation rates than private colleges and universities located in the South. Higher African American graduation rates occurred in colleges and universities with Black cultural centers, higher first-year retention rates, higher women enrollment rates, a higher number of student organizations, and Division III athletic programs. Colleges and universities located in a town had higher African American graduation rates than those located in a city, suburb, or rural area.

A political and cultural landmark, and a manifestation of the identity of Stockholm Archipelago

Holm, Petter January 2014 (has links)
I am born and raised in a village named Dyvik, located in the central northern part of Stockholm Archipelago. I have always spent a lot of time in the archipelago, especially since I have been sailing all my life. The Archipelago is where my roots are, and I have always wanted to make a project that evolves around what made me who I am today. The Stockholm Archipelago has an amazing nature, and wildlife, but also an exciting cultural heritage. The vicinity to both the city and the sea has made the place full of history and culture. I wanted to create a structure where the residents of the Archipelago could meet and discuss the problems of their region, explore the rich cultural heritage, and experience contemporary archipelagic art and craftmanship. I wanted to capture the spirit of the Archipelago without getting stuck in certain typologies or framework. A structure with exhibitionhalls of different sizes, auditoriums for meetings, lectures and concerts. A workshop where the craftmanship could be thought to coming generations. A marketplace where people could sell fish, and vegetables, or art and crafts. A meeting place. A political and cultural landmark.

Centro cultural en Villa El Salvador / Villa El Salvador cultural center

Coaquira Balbin, Brando Kervin 01 December 2021 (has links)
The Villa El Salvador Cultural Center is located in a cultural-educational node (Central Avenue- Bolívar Avenue), having nearby facilities of great importance such as the Lima Sur National Technological University and the Julio C. Tello Public Higher Institute. The area is currently abandoned but with enormous potential due to the size of the land, the topography and the zoning. Therefore, a compatible and integrating building with these nearby facilities is proposed. In addition, previous meeting spaces were created to achieve a longer stay where various activities can be developed for all the people of the district and South Lima. A Cultural Center is projected, with workshops, library, auditorium, exhibition rooms and a restaurant / dining room. A building that can re-empower the dormant identity with its district. This makes the user feel identified with their cultural diversity. In addition, the possibility of using it as an axis of social, educational and cultural development of people The emphasis of the project is on the public space as a generator of inclusion and social cohesion. Therefore, three public squares were generated. These public spaces were landscaped with circulations, vegetation and suitable urban furniture to achieve greater comfort for people during their stay. Finally, an internal private square that is accompanied by a tribune to reach its level. Both public and private squares are multipurpose spaces, that is, various cultural-artistic activities can be carried out, typical of the cultural center as well as of its own population. / Tesis

Centro Cultural Comunitario en Lomas de Carabayllo / Cultural Communitary Centre in Carabayllo

Ortiz Reinoso, Ximena 15 December 2021 (has links)
The thesis below presents the development of a Community Cultural Center in Hills of Carabayllo. This is proposed as a response to the current problems in this community since it is a very vulnerable population socially and economically speaking where there is a very high rate of child labor. The project contemplates a reinforcement of community work, providing spaces for social and cultural development to the entire population of the hills. The project is located on a block in a very poorly formed area. Since it has 4 fronts, an architecture that is accessible from all sides was proposed, avoiding blind walls and making the building a public urban space similar to the typology of a library park. The project is divided into three volumes, the cultural area, the community area and the media library. These in turn are connected at different levels with squares, bridges, ramps and amphitheaters, making the project a park open 24 hours a day, thus improving public spatial quality and generating living and safe spaces. / Tesis

Konverze uvolněných hospodářských objektů zámku, Žďár nad Sázavou / Conversion of freed castle original facility(service) buildings, Zdar nad Sazavou

Boiko, Svitlana January 2017 (has links)
An extensive historical estate of the Kinsky family connected with the Žďár nad Sázavou monastery and create a remarkable set of cultural and natural heritage. Monastery owners, the Kinsky family, are seeking for a long time to evaluate this legacy, and therefore, has recently decided to prepare concrete reflection on the development and rehabilitation of the monastery and its accessories by preparing a global strategy for the concept of building development and its tourist use. The ambition of the Kinsky family is to develop in Žďárka a project of an important monument and Cultural center with European fame. Their will is to create from this place an important example of cultural and tourist development beyond the territory The presence of a unique collection of Baroque culture and architectural monuments from the Jan Blažej Santini (pilgrimage church of St. John of Nepomuk, The Monastery, the Abbey, the Church of the Assumption of Virgin Mary, the Riding Hall, the Cemetery, the Lyra Farm, the Chateau) make this area a unique monument and an important cultural heritage of the Czech Republic. The area of the monastery with its surroundings opens the strong potential of free space in the remarkable historical buildings capable of transforming cultural, tourist and commercial functions of all types: cultural events, expositions and exhibitions, seminars, accommodation, restaurant operations. Recently, the topic of the public cultural space has become more recent. These are new cultural buildings where people can meet, have fun and learn every day, spend their free time every day. Earlier, communism times fulfilled this function with cultural buildings. But modern life dictates new demands and functions of public space. Today it assumes more interactive space than before. Person works with space and architecture, engaging in activities. A new urban space is emerging, which opens up for a full-day multifunctional use - a cultural area. On the basis of the analysis of the solved territory, a proposal dealing with the whole locality of economic premises of the monastery was elaborated as a complex whole whose main aim was to create a functional and aesthetic environment. The site is situated in the area of the Cistercian monastery, which is located between two ponds. Next to the monastery there is a public transport stop and a public car parking. Design territory is defined by the monastery's backyard area. In addition, there is a functioning elementary school. The project is based on minimalism and respect for the place. Combined with the historical basis of the complex, a new cultural unit will be created. The cultural center is multifunctional, which corresponds to a simple and clearly arranged operation allowing for a wide range of cultural and educational activities, which can be attended by both: tourists and children from the local elementary school. The proposed multifunctional cultural facility meets the basic requirements for organizing cultural events of diverse character, such as theater, film and music performances, shows, balls, dance and sports courses and other social activities. It also provides facilities for families, mothers with children and open-air events during the summer months.

OBNOVA CENTRA MĚSTA MIKULOV - Společenské a kulturní centrum / URBAN RENEWAL OF MIKULOV TOWN CENTRE - Social and cultural centre

Lichtnerová, Eliška January 2017 (has links)
The Renewal Project of the Mikulov Town Center focuses primarily on its cultural heritage, consisting of reconstruction of the original Národný dom on the main square and new buildings of the Cultural House supplemented by the Art Multifunctional Gallery at the Kapucínská Street. The social cultural complex of buildings is a solution to the problems of cultural and physical connection between the city center and its immediate surroundings. After the reconstruction, the Národný dom has a supranational position in the form of conference rooms, a tourist-information center and an educational center. The present building is complemented by a new building of the Cultural House, which houses a multifunctional social hall suitable for theater performance, lectures or dance entertainment. Another kind of art experience offers Galleries on the Walls, which open their premises directly on the street and also shelter smaller outdoor cultural events in the city. The main idea of the project is to connect the square with the alley and then the city park. The building is a passage that directly connects to the original Národný dom and opens the possibility of moving from the main square to Kapucínska street. The exposed renovated bastion then interconnects the level of the park with the street level and is complemented by a view overlooking the St. Kopeček.
