Reviving Spirit in Corporate systems

skrempl@iinet.net.au, Sandra Krempl January 2006 (has links)
The underlying context of this work is the mismatch between the systems that we need to comply with and what our spirit and intuition wants and needs. The thesis questions the relevance of spiritless corporate systems set up to serve the ‘best interest’ of human beings and other living things. Corporate systems have been established to comply with governing laws, to facilitate transaction of money and provide financial accountability to stakeholders and clients – spiritless matters. Corporate systems are ill equipped to protect our emotional and spiritual boundaries, our tangible and intangible links to the past and to the future. Spirit, which is the essence of life, is often not understood, discussed or included in the planning, development and implementation of the very systems that govern and impact on our lives and our communities. If spirit is included it is often well intended but rhetorical. Spirit needs to be revived and provided time, place and purpose, not only in our broader lives but also in our work cultures. Without spirit, facts have no meaning or relevance to life. This thesis searches for solutions to fill this spiritual gap in corporate systems, drawing on the experiences and lessons gained through engaging with communities and corporate systems in Australian and international contexts. The search covers a study of oral tradition(spirit),the impact of the lack of credibility afforded to oral tradition, developing and trialling common-ground terminology and frameworks befitting both corporate and spiritual systems across different industry sectors, the isolation of arts and culture from other sectors, the role of community development arts practices, and aspects of social science and urban development theories. The research traces the development and implementation of a cultural planning program for Western Australia through policy development at State government level and then framework development undertaken through Community Arts Network WA. The development of this cultural planning program draws on the contribution of diverse industry sector partners and this thesis research explains how their perspectives can contribute to the revival of spirit in corporate systems. The partnerships involved are business planning, town planning, community psychology, vocation, education and training, and sustainability. Having contributed to the development of the broader frameworks for the implementation of cultural planning across the State and beyond, this research delves further into addressing the issue of reviving spirit in corporate systems through refining the First (spirit) and Third Person (corporate) approach to cultural planning. This method is based on a key Spirit Catalyst called The First and Third Person Systems. This key Spirit Catalyst provides a guide for balance between spirit and corporate systems. There are a total of seven secondary Spirit Catalysts cited. Comparisons and contrasts between First and Third Person cultural planning process and strategic planning are provided. Principles and protocols and tools for evaluating spirit have been developed as part of the process. In keeping with the first person nature of spirit, personal narrative is used wherever possible to give life and meaning to facts and other planning and management processes.

The party is part of everyday life. Commonly, there is a whole preparation: dresses the best clothes, perfumes-up, preparing for what is coming. It's time to see and be seen, to have fun, get out of the routine. To take a break, break the routine and enter in a moment of escape, to vent, but also to renew yourself to return to normal day to day. Similarly, the cultural facilities - all permanent public space use, for the production, custody, management and display of cultural products in various areas - support the party to become effective. With this recognition, I elaborated the research problem: What is the party place in everyday life of the residents of Vila Nova district of Francisco Beltrão, Paraná. I anchor the discussions on the everyday concept, the idea of culture and socialities the party provides. For the development of research, conducted between 2013/2014, I delimited the following objectives: a) Reviewing the parties as cultural events and expression of community life; b) To identify those involved with the culture and the party organization in the Vila Nova neighborhood; c) To review the meaning of São José s party and Unioeste Rock Festival for the community life of the neighborhood; d) To identify the cultural facilities, places indicated by the locals as the collective experience. In addition to the research problem, I established the research questions: a) How does the festive manifestations influence in community life? b) What are the evident identities in moments of celebration in Vila Nova´s neighborhood? c) What are the cultural facilities identified by the residents of Vila Nova neighborhood as spaces of collective experience? d) What evokes the leisure experiences in the square Luiz Aldori Neves Fernandes? e) How are the Unioeste Rock Festival and the São José s Party included in community life? In the methodological choice process, I selected the ethnographic research and used as a mean of gathering information, semi-structured interviews, field notes and document analysis. By linking the concept of party, its transience, but also its need, I established the power relations that the city hangs in daily life, the visible and the invisible, synthesized in party flash, transgression. The research allowed the understanding of the dynamics of the neighborhood, as the humanized space and part of the city, endowed with specific erected by its residents through their daily practices. The cultural facilities are appropriated by residents to a greater or lesser extent, and the parties are expected and experienced by those who enjoy it. Authors who contributed to form the theoretical basis of the work: Certeau (2011), Certeau, Giard and Mayol (2009), Geertz (2008), Maffesoli (1985, 1998a, 1998b, 2000, 2001 and 2005).

Ahlner, Ida, Thisell, Felicia January 2008 (has links)
How can you do a right measurement of culture as well as with other social sectors and with what can culture contribute when it comes to a town´s development? We found out that in Linköping the regional federation Ostsam recently (2005) started mapping the region's creative centers in order to look into the spreading of the culture in the county, and then use the uniqueness of the culture as an advantage in society- planning contexts. The reason was that both municipal - and State directions detected that the culture has a broader importance when it comes to building up society and infrastructure than earlier considered. This is called Cultural planning and is the foundation- method that Östsam used when working with their new projekt The creative sector. The outcome of the Östsam study resulted in an exciting study basis to work further on with and to examine through own demarcations and directions. This research manages the matter of the creative sector as an extension to the cultural sector. Our aim with this report is to find out the concept of the creative sector, what it stands for, and also to look into how the creative sector runs in practice.
