Theron, Matthiam Jacobus 11 1900 (has links)
Sustaining curriculum relevance and effectiveness, necessitates regular curriculum evaluation and adjustment in concurrence with the evaluation results. Special schools in South Africa have at their disposal their own · peculiar curriculum which was developed mainly for learners who are primarily mildly mentally disabled. For various reasons, the most important of which is that the majority of learners currently in special schools are not mildly mentally disadvantaged, the relevancy and effectiveness of this curriculum are questioned. The primary aim of this research was therefore to determine if the core curriculum for special education, which is applicable to the majority of special schools in South Africa, is relevant and effective. A secondary aim of this investigation was to develop a model for curriculum evaluation by means of which curriculum evaluators would be able to evaluate a curriculum from a literature perspective. With a view to founding this research theoretically, literature research was conducted into the foundations and components of the curriculum. On the basis of the research findings, the model for curriculum evaluation was developed. Two of the curriculum foundations that were disclosed by means of the research, were the learner and the community. By means of an investigation of literature and other relevant documentation, the demands made on the curriculum by the learner and the community, were determined. On the basis of these findings, criteria were developed by means of which the core curriculum for special schools was then assessed. When the above criteria were applied, it was found that in many respects the core curriculum for special schools did not completely comply with the demands of the learners and the community. The conclusion could therefore be drawn that the core curriculum for special schools are in general not effective and relevant enough. Proposals were made on how the core curriculum could possibly be made more effective and relevant. / Curriculum and Instructional Studies / D. Ed. (Didaktiek)

Perception of School-field on the Stage Supervised in Biology: an assessment of contributions to Curriculum Evaluation

Ana Lourdes Lucena de Sousa 11 September 2009 (has links)
This research project has as main purpose understanding supervised stage activities, under school managerâs and teacherÂs point-of-view, seeing that they are responsible for the teachers-students reception at school. For one semester class period, the field-school was analyzed in its structure and action, as well as the supervised stage considering practical reflexive documental theory. Gestaltâs theory was used to comprehend the researched object that is the relationship between field-school and university reffering to a Biology major, through supervised stage. This workâs components are introduction and four chapters supplied in Franco and Ghedinâs (2008) Marleau Pontyâs (2006) ViannaÂs (2000) Romanelliâs (2006) Fusaryâs (1987) Pimenta and Limaâs (1993) studies, among others, beyond legal documents published by MEC and CNE. The research has based itself in the evaluative methodology, that can make possible the aggregation of the qualitative research procedures in the knowledge and learning construction. Both of these can give real mean to the study purpose reflection, analysis and evaluation. The qualitative research in phenomenological basis helped to understand data that has marked the space/time of the research. The most important results in this investigation are constituted by these points of reflection: the school managers and Biology teachers perception about supervised stage offered formative elements to the searcher, because they increased the learning field in education area and in the time spent inside public school. That was very important also for the teachers involved in this research through the opportunity of reflection, when they discussed their life experience. Biology teachers respect their knowledge area and hava Biology as The Science of Life. They also hope the teachers-students can help them encourage the students, because keeping the dialog is very difficult, when the class is disarticulated. The searcher marked her presence in the school, inviting to do a work involving school and university, that is an emergency. Teachers formation needs to increase the dialogue in the real spaces where it happens.

A avaliaÃÃo do curriculo integrado no PROEJA DO IFCE: concepÃÃo e prÃtica na percepÃÃo do docente. / Evaluation of the integrated curriculum in IFCE PROEJA courses: design and practice in the perception of teachers

Ana ClÃudia UchÃa AraÃjo 16 December 2010 (has links)
This research was motivated by the initial need of a curriculum evaluation to understand how the curriculum of PROEJA (National Program for Integration of Basic Education with Professional Education for Youth and Adults) has been developed at IFCE (Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of CearÃ) in the Campus of Fortaleza. It was developed under the Course Assessment axis, which is part of the Educational Evaluation line of research, and its general point is to understand the nature of the course curriculum of High School Courses integrated with the Telecommunications and Heating & refrigeration Technical Courses offered by IFCE to Youth and adults, analyzing their design and dynamic according to the teachers and identifying elements of that avaliation. The research objectives were to investigate the nature of the curriculum at prescriptive (documentary) and perceptual (vision of teachers) levels in order to analyze the perceptions of teachers and administrators on the curriculum of the courses mentioned above; and to investigate how the coordination of the courses guides the implementation of the existing curriculum taking in account the need to connect the workup training to the technical training and provides the necessary conditions to propose an ongoing curriculum evaluation. We adopted a qualitative methodology in a phenomenological approach, in which documents review and semi-structured interviews with a reflective proposal were used. The theoretical framework was supported by Silva (2007), Freire (1987), Frigotto et. al. (2005) and Vianna (2000), among other theorists who study Youth and Adult Education, the curriculum evaluation and curriculum issues. The findings of the research showed, among other data, that IFCE needs to prioritize PROEJAâs recognition. In order to achieve this goal, the implementation of structural actions, whose aim is the strengthening of PROEJA, as well as its consolidation as an institutional policy for Professional Education at this very institution are required. Therefore, special attention should be given to the active teacher training program and to the course curriculum, so that the training meets the peculiarities of Youth and Adults Education, high school and vocational training, without disregarding the interests of their students.

Onderwyserbetrokkenheid by kurrikulering in die primêre skool

De Wet, William Christoffel 10 February 2014 (has links)
D.Ed. (Curriculum Studies) / The subject of this research was defined as : the devising of strategies for increased teacher involvement in curriculum development, with a view to improving the quality of education. This effort to develop a paradigm for curriculum development showed that such a paradigm should be constructed using both philosophical and relevant procedural points of departure. Study of the literature and of personal correspondence received from developed countries indicated that the teacher should only be expected to participate in those areas of curriculum development which correspond to his training. In developed countries aspirant teachers receive training, not only in curriculum development at the microlevel (lesson planning), but also to equip them for involvement in curriculum development on the mesolevel. Training for the latter activity involves the acquisition of specific knowledge and skills in the field of curriculum development...

Van Schalkwyk, Daniël Jacobus January 2006 (has links)
Curriculum 2005 was originally implemented in grade 1 in 1998. In 2002 it was implemented in grade 9. Similar problems and questions, which arose during the initial implementation, arose again during the implementation in grade 9. Implementation gave rise to many questions and uncertainties. Only in October 2001 was it finally decided to implement the curriculum for grade 9 in 2002. The result was that publishers, the national as well as provincial education departments as well as schools were not ready for the implementation in January 2002. This treatise aims to determine the amount of support offered to educators and the degree of uncertainty still being experienced by them. Information regarding these unnecertainties and problems has been obtained from educators by means of questionnaires, circulated to 38 schools in the Northern Cape Province, offering Natural Science. This sampling of schools is representative of schools offering Natural Science in the region. Data regarding the uncertainties from educators have been obtained from the SOC (Stages of Concern) questionnaires of Hall, George and Rutherford. The rest of the questionnaire concerned the biographical information regarding the educators as well as the support that educators have received during the implementation of the learning area. It emerged from the questionnaire that educators understand the importance of a new Natural Science curriculum for SA. They are however sceptical regarding the hasty manner in which the learning area was implemented; the fact that no textbooks or educational teaching aids were available prior to implementation was of concern. Educators are similarly concerned about the inadequate training prior to implementation and lack of support during implementation. Educators are also concerned about the administrative liability that the new curriculum will bring about.
