O diálogo com o invisível na poética do entrelugar de Dora Ferreira da Silva / The dialogue with the invisible in the Dora Ferreira da Silva's poetry of between place

Nesse entrelugar que faz dela, antes de tudo, moderna, a poesia de Dora Ferreira da Silva confunde e indetermina e, como diria Vilém Flusser, fascina, como tudo que ainda não foi descoberto / Abstract: This dissertation realizes a study of the work of contemporary Brazilian poet Dora Ferreira da Silva, trying to understand some of their basic poetic procedures from critical analysis of her work. Among these procedures is the realization of a "dialogue with the invisible" through which the poet calls and affirms the mythical images of another time, stating them at the present against their disappearance. In this sense, her poetic realizes the survival of these images, they come back and become again possible in our time, this time of poverty and penury, absent from the gods. In the realization of the dialogue with the invisible, we also try to show the constitution of what we think is a fundamental place in the construction of her poetry: the space of the between-place, this area of uncertainty, situated in a interlude, where the poet, in a double movement, is between opposing powers such as myth and logos, shadow and light, death and life, that coexist in her poetic work, letting it show in its materiality, artisan operation on the words, and do not get to see, or do not be mean totally, in its proximity to the myth . In this between-place, that makes it, above all, modern, the Dora Ferreira da Silva's poetry confounds and indeterminate and, like say Vilém Flusser, fascinates, as all that has not yet been discovered / Mestrado / Teoria e Critica Literaria / Mestra em Teoria e História Literária

We select writings from all the poetic work of the two poets studied, we analyze also tales and children’s narratives by Sophia and interviews, translations and research of Dora, texts that help to understand the subject proposed. Carl Gustav Jung, Gaston Bachelard, Mircea Eliade and Gilbert Durand were some experts of Theory of the Imaginary that we use to understand the presence of sacred in the verses of poets, as well as Joseph Campbell and his studies about the journey and the pilgrim who embarks on this journey. Other academics that research the poetic works of the poets and symbolic hermeneutics scholars also contributed to the composition of this study. The beginning of the journey towards the sacred is when the lyrical subject in Dora and Sophia observe the degraded, chaotic and desecrated world in which they live and they realize how much people have gotten away from the true essence of things, from the purity, from the truth, from the ancient and from the eternal. We analyze the archetype of the trip, because the hero, the pilgrim, leaves his home environment for an adventure in search of self, of self-knowledge, of the Other, of the sacred. This is in the nature, in trees, in gardens, in lakes, in rivers, in seas, in animals, in the most secret woods, in the purest nights. When they look all this for the first time, the lyrical subject in the poems by Dora and Sophia seeks the true essence and purity of each place. And both strive to make a return to the one and sovereign God. And this, we believe, is the final stage of the journey of initiation. There, in that place of full unity, only would enter those who know your selves - and who know their limitations and their human error -, and those who value and have a full acceptance of the sacred. This would be the stage for which, apparently, the lyrical subjects don’t feel ready. They don’t see perfectly God, but they clearly understand that is for there that they must go, because arrive there would be the fullness, the completeness and the life.

Challenges with Measuring Software Delivery Performance Metrics : A case study at a software organisation

Gebrewold, Yamo, Wirell, Johanna January 2023 (has links)
Online software businesses constantly face new challenges. Businesses are competing to deliver high-quality software solutions to their end users as quickly as possible. The performance of a software team in terms of software delivery needs to be measured to identify bottlenecks and understand what can be improved. This project is a case study of a software organisation that delivers online web solutions for a business. The organisation strives to follow a DevOps mindset and work data-driven by collecting data, learning from it and acting on the learnings. Our method to perform the case study was to study existing data collected by the organisation and conduct interviews with software professionals to get their insights about the software delivery performance of three software teams within the organisation. We focus on two metrics - deployment frequency and lead time for change - which measure the throughput of a software team and how often and fast it can deploy changes to production. Software organisations that adopt a DevOps approach are facing challenges with collecting data about their software delivery performance and learning from that data to improve their throughput. We aim to identify these challenges and discuss various problems that software organisations need to be aware of when measuring software delivery performance. We present the results from the interviews and collected metrics, analyse them and discuss them, as well as give suggestions on future research. We observe that there are multiple factors impacting software delivery performance and various challenges with measuring it accurately. This is related to the way of reporting data reliably and developing models to study and understand the collected data.

Language choice in children’s animated TV shows

Unknown Date (has links)
This study aims to analyze three popular U.S. children’s TV shows – Dora the Explorer (Nickelodeon), Maya & Miguel (PBS) and Handy Manny (Disney Channel) – in terms of their incorporation of Spanish. Qualitative and quantitative measures were used to assess the frequency and types of code switching both in the context of bilingualism and language pedagogy. The study revealed different strategies of language choice and socio-cultural objectives for each show. A close analysis of language choice in the three children’s TV programs revealed distinct approaches to TV writing in the name of raising awareness of ethnic diversity, developing cultural literacy, and brand marketing. / Includes bibliography. / Thesis (M.A.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2014. / FAU Electronic Theses and Dissertations Collection

She received the Jabuti Award three times and one time the Machado de Assis Award, promoted by the Academia Brasileira de Letras. This research comes to revitalize the concept of the sacred and its developments in a corpus of nine poems of the poet, through the understanding of studies that aims the Theories of the Sacred, from Rudolf Otto, Mircea Eliade, Jacques Wunenburger and Joseph Campbell, the Theory of the Imaginary of Gilbert Durand and Gaston Bachelard, the Analytical Psychology of Carl Gustav Jung - which Dora was one of the translators -, and the Theories of Literature of Octavio Paz and Northop Frye. The literary work recreates the symbolism of sacred manifestations, giving them a new perspective related to the subject of the unconscious. This dissertation points to the fascination that the issues relating to the sacred creates within the poetic activity that links to the archetypal richness of ancient myths and their rites, and so for these artistic hierophanies establishes a dialogue with the unknowable and ineffable of the human experience. The writer herself says in an interview: "Giving the little that you have, be true to your inner voice, it is what is asked from poets in an attempt to meet this need of the gods".

Chatagnon, Françoise 13 September 1982 (has links) (PDF)

Love between the lines : paradigmatic readings of the relationship between Dora Carrington and Lytton Strachey

Loedolff, Janine 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MA (English))--University of Stellenbosch, 2007. / This thesis focuses on the relationship between Dora Carrington and Lytton Strachey and offers three models for reading their unconventional relationship. Carrington was in love with the homosexual Strachey and the two lived together at Tidmarsh, and later Ham Spray House, for more than fourteen years. The three models make extensive use of primary sources, namely the letters and diaries of Carrington and Strachey. Furthermore, I draw on two seminal biographies of Carrington and Strachey written by Gretchen Gerzina and Michael Holroyd respectively. The first model I examine is a form of pederasty. I argue that, soon after they met, Carrington and Strachey began a friendship which was based on his educating her in a variety of ways. He served as a mentor both intellectually and sexually. Strachey was familiar with the concept of pederasty as a result of his involvement with the Cambridge Conversazione Society, better known as the Apostles, and used his knowledge to induct a rather naïve Carrington into new ways of thinking. This pederastic relationship also allowed Carrington a certain amount of freedom as it enabled her to pursue her art without the demands a heterosexual male would make of her. The second model for reading their relationship is that of parody. While Carrington and Strachey’s relationship resembles a heteronormative relationship, it can, at times, be read as parodic. I argue that they both subvert heteronormativity in humorous ways as a means to critique their parents’ Victorian marriages and to interrogate notions of masculinity vi and femininity. I discuss the roles they played within their domestic environment, and pay particular attention to how this intersected with Carrington’s artistic endeavours. This parodying of heteronormativity was, I suggest, also one of the only ways they could find of expressing the love they felt for one another. The last model I offer draws on theories of kinship. I examine how Carrington and Strachey resorted to familial constructions of descent as a means to veil the love they had for one another and to avoid criticism and ridicule from the Bloomsbury group and beyond. When they established a home at Tidmarsh, they altered their form of kinship to utilise principles of alliance. However, another shift took place with the introduction of Ralph Partridge, Carrington’s husband, and I argue that the terms they used to address each other changed to constructions, once again, of descent, at least until the dissolution of the Carrington-Partridge marriage. Carrington and Strachey’s relationship is often viewed as unconventional and she is often depicted as being utterly subservient towards him. However, the three models I have used demonstrate that their love was mutual. The models also reveal their relationship to be quite conventional in the manner in which Carrington and Strachey expressed their love for one another and how these expressions of love developed during the different phases of the life they spent together.

Poesia Concreta em Dora Ferreira da Silva

Saramago, Rogélia Mundim 16 February 2017 (has links)
Abstract: Dora Ferreira da Silva, winner of several significant awards in the literary world, has a unique and peculiar style. Through her verses, one can immerse himself in both sacred and profane worlds. Known for her intimate poetry of metaphysical reverberations, influenced by the inwardness of Rainer Maria Rilke and Jung’s ideas of archetype, unconscious and symbol, Dora writes her poems with such subtlety and emphasis on the primordial, elementary beauty with impeccable language. Her lyricism is permeated by the images and universal symbolisms of myths, which are part of daily life and religiosity, while it evokes images in the collective unconscious, awakening to the ancestry of man. However, Dora Ferreira da Silva manages to deal with these themes in a style which is apparently opposite to the lyric subjectivity of her poetry – Concretism. In this aspect, the proposal of this Master’s dissertation consists in analyzing Dora's poetry focusing on two corpura – “Lunimago” and “Elementária” –, both from her first opus, An-danças, which was published in 1970. In this set of poems, the experimentation carried out by the poet in the paths proposed by the Concrete Poetry is analyzed and evidenced, within the context of Brazilian Modernism. The fundamentals of the theoretical contribution of myth criticism, as well as the theoretical assumptions of critics and scholars of poetry and concretism are used. At this stage in the poet’s work her style is emphasized in the use of mythical images allied to verbal, sonorous and visual forms, characteristic of concretism, which represents the central theme of this dissertation and draws attention to it since it is still unknown and rarely mentioned. / Dissertação (Mestrado)
