Pers Pancasila in Indonesia : an analysis of three Indonesian dailies Kompas, Pelita and the Jakarta Post between 1987-1991

Solikhati, Siti, n/a January 1993 (has links)
There has been an on-going debate in Indonesia about the implementation of the policy of Pers Pancasila between the press and the government. Therefore, this study will examine the extent to which both socio-cultural and sociopolitical factors influence the policy of Pers Pancasila as it actually operates. It aims to help understand why such a debate exists and why it is likely to continue. Using mainly a qualitative content analysis, this thesis examines reporting in the three Indonesian daily papers Kompas, Pelita, and The Jakarta Post between 1987- 1991. Four major news categories -news the press, religion, development, and Pancasila issues- are defined as being relevant to understanding the implementation of Pers Pancasila policies. Quantitative analysis is used by counting the frequency of the news as well as measuring the space of each news. In addition, qualitative analysis is applied by adopting the news-as-narrative approach used by scholars such as Entman, Ettema, and Glasser. Taking 180 editions of the three papers as a sample, this study finds that there were significant differences in the way the three papers reported the four selected news categories. Certain papers are found to be more critical in reporting certain news than the others. The affiliation of of each paper, to some extent, influences the attitudes of each paper. Pelita is affiliated to other Islamic papers, The Jakarta Post is affiliated to Christian papers which are in favour of the government, Kompas (the Christian based paper) sees itself as a neutral paper which represents the voice of the people. Although there have been disagreements on certain issues, such as in reporting news about development and Pancasila, the three papers were found to consistently apply the policy of Pars Panpasila. The papers are aware that although the government does not have direct means of controlling press reporting, it still has a range of control mechanisms which substantially determines the scope of Indonesian press freedom. Due to Indonesian cultural diversity, the government pursues a 'free responsible' press theory in that the press should have self-censorship. However, there has been different interpretations made by the press and the government about this policy which often cause misunderstandings.

Preserving the American Community Newspaper in an Age of New Media Convergence and Competition

Wilson, Stephen Michael 12 July 2005 (has links)
The intention of this project is to provide broad based and practical advice for American community newspapers. Print editions of papers have experienced stagnation and decline over the past several decades and today face an increasingly complex media environment, and as a result there is the potential for them to be rendered obsolete. Competition with technology based media, or technomedia, is the primary catalyst for this decline. Through a combination of background research and interviews with industry professionals, this project will attempt to develop tools for print newspapers to remain relevant and even profitable in the American media landscape of the 21st Century.

Vliv agenturního zpravodajství České tiskové kanceláře na obsah zahraničních rubrik periodického tisku / The influence of agency news from the ČTK on the content of foreign news sections in periodicals

Vančurová, Kateřina January 2014 (has links)
The diploma thesis "The Influence of Agency News from the Czech News Agency on the Content of Foreign News Sections in Periodicals" is focused on the thematic a geopolitical focus of the foreign news sections of Czech national dailies in comparison with the agency service of the Czech Newa Agency (CTK). The thesis strives to answer the question, how similar they are. At the same time, work with sources is compared. The theoretical basis for this thesis lies in the theorie of gatekeeping, news values and agenda setting. Two month-long periods were analyzed in the thesis, with emphasis on the comparability of the work with sources. March 2012, a so-called usual month with no expected events of big importance, was compared to the period between 20 October and 20 November 2012, when presidential elections went on in the United States of America. Three hypotheses were determined; of them, two were confirmed and one partially disproved. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

It is about to understand and to analyze the usual writing of dailies of two brothers: Aldo Schmidt (60 years) and Clemer Schmidt (56 years). Aldo used to write while still living in the paternal house, from 1972 to 1974, in his period of bachelor. In 1976, Aldo was married, constituted his family and continued writing dailies with the "new" family, as still makes currently. On the other hand, his brother Clemer started to write dailies in 1975, while single one, in the father s house, up to 1979, when he married and stopped to write. The methodology used is the analysis of the notebooks of dailies registers, together with oral history from half-structuralized interviews. The registers in the dailies are related to the organization of the work in the daily of the rural zone, as well as other aspects related to the climate, leisure and other social events of the farmer s life. The research shows that the motivation for the writings is the work in the farming, although the content of the notebooks tells about the private and also public life of the family, demonstrating that the registers exceed the sphere of the work and reach other directions.

Vliv internetu na prodej deníků v ČR / Influence of internet on newspaper circulation in Czech republic.

Děd, Michal January 2012 (has links)
The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of free information on the Internet on decreasing sales of printed newspapers. I tested the main hypothesis that the increase in Internet daily visits in the previous period has an impact on the sales of the printed journal in the following period . Another researched phenomenon was the influence of previous rising visitors of web news on subsequent revenue from advertising in print version. These effects I researched on -month and quarterly data in panel of eight czech dailies for the period from 2006 to 2012. The result is that we could not confirm the effect of Granger causality between web pages and his dailies itself nor on a monthly or quarterly basis. When it comes to examining the impact of Internet visits to newspapers revenue from advertising, on the contrary, here we confirmed Granger causality on quarterly data from past revenues from advertising to the current Internet visits . This means that the Internet visits will decrease when there is increased advertising income of newspapers in the previous quarter, which is , however, difficult to interpret in economic terms . The main benefit of this work is that the effect of preceding of webiste visits and newspaper circulations was not confirmed.

Diários gratuitos Destak e Metro no Brasil: o aprofundamento do discurso publijornalístico / Diários gratuitos Destak e Metro no Brasil: o aprofundamento do discurso publijornalístico

Machado, Juliano Ribeiro de Lima 14 October 2011 (has links)
Objective: The advertisements published on the front page of the free dailies Metro and Destak, from São Paulo, show a level of dialogue between advertising and journalistic language that is not commonly seen in traditional newspapers. These two discourses get also closer in some top headlines a traditional room for journalistic content that incorporate many elements of the advertising discourse. This study is aimed at identifying the strategies used by both advertisers and the media outlet itself to prompt this effect. Methods: The concepts of dialogism by Mikhail Bakhtin and the French Discourse Analysis are the theoretical basis to be applied to a selection of advertisements and top headlines of Metro and Destak. Results: although the journalistic market regards the free dailies as competitors to popular newspapers, the conclusions drawn from our analysis emphasize a strategy adopted by the free dailies of associating their brand with a young, urban, wealthy audience.
