Practically impossible : Deleuze and ethics

Evens, Aden. January 1999 (has links)
Gilles Deleuze makes a paradox of ethics. Throughout his oeuvre, he establishes polarities (affirmation versus negation, difference versus identity, rhizome versus arborescence, etc.), and demonstrates rhetorically a preference for one pole over the other. This would seem to constitute, if not an obligation or imperative, at least an urgency, a suggestion that those who find his discussion compelling should favor that one pole and act in such a way as to promote it or move toward it. However, for a variety of reasons, it proves difficult or even impossible to put this 'ethics' into practice. / This thesis examines the reasons for this impossibility through close readings of four of Deleuze's texts, Nietzsche and Philosophy, Difference and Repetition, Anti-Oedipus, and A Thousand Plateaus. In each text, I highlight the polarities, showing where Deleuze's expressed preference lies. Then I demonstrate the obstacles to an implementation of this preference. Moving from text to text, I trace how Deleuze's attempts to deal with the question of ethics change over his career, becoming more sophisticated and opening up new problems and possibilities. / Although the nature of the paradox of ethics varies from case to case, I discover at least two difficulties in general. The first concerns the move from the abstract to the concrete: Deleuze often expresses a polarity in abstract or metaphysical terms, which collapses when extended into the concrete. Metaphysically, affirmation is sharply distinguished from negation; where affirmation creates difference, negation levels difference to produce homogeneity. Practically, however, it is impossible to locate this distinction in the world; no person, place, thing, or event can be said to be either affirmative or negative. / This relates closely to the second general difficulty, the insertion of the subject. Even if it were possible to make a practical distinction between two poles of value, it is impossible to locate the subject in relation to those poles. That is, even if the world can be said to behave affirmatively or negatively, the subject is only accidentally related to this behavior, and so ethics becomes a purely ontological matter, bearing no relation to the will or intention of a subject.

Lemieux, René January 2007 (has links) (PDF)

This dissertation research is towards the idea of forgetting within the philosophy of difference. To do so, taking as reference the propositions elaborated by Deleuze as well as their peers within the educational scope, it wonders if it would be worth an education into oblivion, or even if the philosophy of difference sustain itself through a territorialization of forgetting.

The notion of life covers in a unique conceptual scheme in Deleuze philosophy. The sinuosity of this path will enable us to understand better the vitalism of this philosopher. Due to the tensions between the life he thematizes as organic and non-organic life, this vitalism involves complex relationships between extensive and intensive joints, vectors that modulate life itself in its oscillations between a dominant health and a paradoxical great health / Mestrado / Filosofia / Mestre em Filosofia

Gilles Deleuze e a questão da tecnica

Craia, Eladio Constantino Pablo 29 August 2003 (has links)
Orientador: Luiz Benedicto Lacerda Orlandi / Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Filosofia e Ciencias Humanas / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-03T16:37:18Z (GMT). The present work has as its central objective to question the problem of the Technique ontological statute since the ontology by Gilles Deleuze. Firstly, a general cartography on the Technique Philosophy is performed, beginning with the "engineering Philosophy, moving on to the "humanities' Technique Philosophy", until the thought of Martim Heidegger, indicating the characteristics of each, end the differences between them. Secondly, the deleuzian ontology is characterized according to the univocality, immanence, ontological expressionism, and the question-problem complex speculative axes. Thirdly, the ontology by Deleuze is sigularized around the concept of virtual; thus, such notion is approached and thought within Deleuze's opus aiming at defining the deleuzian ontology as specifically virtual. Finally, the deleuzian ontological horizon is applied as analysis category to think the Technique from a distinct perspective than the one presented in the first moment. So, armed with such conceptual tools, the Technique itself is characterized as virtual and productive / Doutorado / Doutor em Filosofia

Discursos do trânsito da guerrilha ao Estado neoliberal: estratopolítica, tecnopolítica e nomadopolítica / Discourses of the transition of the guerrilla to the neoliberal state: stratumpolitics, technopolitics and nomadpolitics

Domenico Uhng Hur 30 October 2009 (has links)
In 2002, the Workers Party (PT) won the elections for the country\'s presidency, inspiring the expectation of many social changes in Brazil, once it Government is compound by social segments that historically struggled for the transformation of the country, as leaderships of social movements and former-guerrilla fighters of armed struggle. However, the expected social changes didnt happen, putting in question the perspective of a transformation by Left in State\'s power. To reflect upon this problem, this research intended to investigate the discourses of the former-guerrilla fighters about the transition from the armed struggle to the current political moment: a neoliberal democracy. To achieve this scope, we interviewed four former-guerrilla fighters that occupy different social positions, that we called: Deputy, Economist, Journalist and Photographer. We elected the former-guerrilla fighters as actors of this research because we understand they adopted the most radical struggle for social transformation during the military dictatorship. From our social actors\' rebuilt memory analysis and Gilles Deleuze\'s reflections on the agency and the transcendental field, we elaborated three discourses that express the transition from armed struggle to democracy: the Stratumpolitics, the Technopolitics and the Nomadpolitics. Each discourse refers to a singular agency modality, in a specific type of operation that articulates political practice, memory and psychic configuration. Each discourse has different perspectives about the ways to social transformation: the first puts the determining in the stratum, institutions and State to promote social changes; the second, in a development of a governability technology, of management\'s knowledges; the third, in the primacy of movements and displacements, in a more diffuse and molecular practice. We concluded, in agreement with G. Deleuze and F. Guattari (1997), R. Michels (1982) and A. Przeworski (1991)\'s reflections, that Left in Government acts in a fixation at the State-Institution, with more compromise to places\' occupation in the institutional structure than to a transformer political practice, i.e., it acts mainly in stratumpolitics way.

Yalán Dongo, Eduardo 04 March 2019 (has links)
Tesis
