Managing and improving interdepartmental communications at Dell

Durasinovic, Andrej 22 November 2013 (has links)
Dell Inc. has a long and storied history that started in a dorm room and through many highs, and some lows, became a $60 billion international powerhouse. Now that the U.S. PC market is so saturated it becomes increasingly important to build long term customer relationships. While Dell transforms itself into an end-to-end solutions provider that will deliver hardware and state of the art services and software it needs to also create a new way to cultivate relationships on the consumer level. Some of these customer relationships have been somewhat damaged due to the extremely rapid growth of the company, its departments, and the amount of customers served. Corporations around the world have been using the same departmental model that has made it easy to manage a company but difficult for a customer to navigate it. This report will analyze the problem with the current departmental model and suggest an alternative that is cost effective and customer centric. / text

CO₂ price impact on Dell's supply chain : a framework for carbon footprint economic analysis / Carbon dioxide price impact on Dell's supply chain

Colón-Jiménez, Ely X January 2010 (has links)
Thesis (S.M. in Engineering Systems)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Engineering Systems Division; and, (M.B.A.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Sloan School of Management, 2010. / Vita. Page 89 blank. Cataloged from PDF version of thesis. / Includes bibliographical references (p. 86-88). / The principal scope of this project is to design, analyze and report a case study of how to effectively account for the highly likely scenario of a CO2 price policy (cap-and-trade or tax) with regard to Dell's product and supply chain. Dell will use the cost implications of total carbon footprint for the supply chain in a strategic design of manufacturing and fulfillment networks. A carbon footprint Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) will be performed on Dell's 15-inch notebook supply chain. A detailed analysis of the current local and global climate change policy options is discussed. Furthermore, case study examples for the two main policy options, cap-and-trade and tax, are presented and analyzed. The target product for this study is a notebook manufactured in Asia and delivered to the United States. Results for the notebook show that the largest part of the CO2 footprint resides in the use phase, the suppliers' phase, and the finish goods transportation phase, with a 76.5, 11.9, and 9.7 percent, respectively. The most likely cost range for the time frame between 2012 to 2020 (phase 1) is $0.04 to $0.06 per notebook. In the case of a policy implementation with zero percent of free allowance and $15.00/CO 2-ton, the additional cost per notebook may range between $1.06 to $1.77. We conduct an analysis to determine what carbon price would make manufacturing in the U.S. competitive with manufacturing in China. We find that the average breakeven CO2 price is $103/CO2-ton. / by Ely X. Colón-Jiménez. / M.B.A. / S.M.in Engineering Systems

Cash to Cash Cycle with a Supply Chain Perspective

Duman, Can, Sawathanon, Sawanee January 2009 (has links)

This research puts forth a new perspective on cash-to-cash cycle, a performance metric that relates to both finance and supply chain management. In criticism of the existing literature, which virtually views the firm as an isolate body, we look at cash to cash cycle optimization through a supply chain lens, in the hope of being able to formulate a more discreet approach. Our study involves a literature review followed by a case study featuring Dell Inc., the American PC manufacturer. The authors discuss the effects of C2C optimization by dissecting the metric into its 3 constituents, whereby we are able to examine the effects of different C2C optimization methods separately. We bring up the caveats posed by these individual methods and also uncover the cases where reciprocal improvement opportunities lie. Lastly, we lay out our findings by proposing suggestions to deal with such effects under the defined scenarios.

Working from the Outside: Discovering Truth Within a Mask

Bernard, Rebecca 27 April 2009 (has links)
It is the purpose of this thesis to explore the different principles of mask performance in modern theatre and the unique relationship it allows the actor to develop with an audience. The author uses exercises from her training experience with different mask artists such as Teatro Punto, Familie Floz, Torbjorn Alstrom, and Marcello Bartoli. These exercises document a process of training the body in preparation for the mask, how to perform with mask, and how to connect with an audience. The mask is used as a tool to discover an engagement of work that activates both body and imagination of the performer as well as the observer.

A path to reclaim industry leadership for Dell

Nguyen, Quynh Quoc 11 July 2011 (has links)
The high-tech industry is an extremely fast-paced and highly competitive one with constant changes and with companies entering and exiting the playing field in a matter of months. Within this ruthless environment Dell Inc. emerged as a singular player in January 1984 and rose to be the world’s largest personal computer maker in just seventeen years in 2001. One has to ask what made Dell so special and how did Michael Dell make his fortune from his dormitory room at the University of Texas at Austin. Furthermore, what explains Dell’s decline from its number one position in the world in 2001 to barely number three now as it stands behind Acer and clearly behind the current industry leader Hewlett-Packard? This paper is an attempt to take the reader through the history of the rise and fall of Dell. More importantly, it seeks to identify the weaknesses as well as strengths, and advantages as well disadvantages of the business model of this company. Finally, the paper will outline the necessary steps that Dell must take to reclaim the crown of the largest and most successful computer manufacturer in the world. / text

Lasting parallel the conventional theatre since the three hundred years, this gender influenced significativly the making theatrical in the Europe graces the popular character of its simulation turned for the improvise. In spite of treat a theatric manifestation no more existing in the present time, we understand that the Comedy dell Art was constituted in one artistic language whose esthetics centralized in the popular fanciful and in the improvise permitted a rich possibility of verbal and not-verbal communication that today can to be taken again in contemporary productions theatricals. Departing of an approach of esthetics, this work has with purpose concentrate the references esthetics that configure that one artistic manifestation such that one references can contribute for the Arts teaches in the present times. We appeal the text and image of Comedy dell Art, such this historical reference that in context, with fountain investigated that mean and if complementary in one esthetic reflection for the creation of meaning diverse and news interpretations for the purpose investigated if having with base some analysis categories such as: the actor s body, the actuations spaces and the esthetics categories such the ugly, the comic and the absurd. Having investigated the exhibition Comedy dell Art esthetic we rebound four stich that we judge significative for we think the Arts Scenics teach, they are: the articulation between actor s body, the text and the space actuation in the play; statement what it is given between actor s body and the on-looker and the every gesture that did share of scene in a popular scenic space; a conception actor s body that transgress with the true duty socially that is capable the to admit its dimension Dionysian, creative and ambiguous in the to do theatrical; the text conception that get beyond the ambit the word writing by the dramatist and talked by actors, if spreading the other elements significance in the scene like gesture, the parody, the recent news, the gags and the word used in the day-to-day; the scenic space like a statement symbolic between actors and on-looker that make a quality of amusement pact supported by the scenic true of artist that actuate in not usual spaces bid at an auctioning degrees of participation in the building the scenic phenomenon; and the importance of esthetics categories such as the ugly, the comic and the absurd, those categories that foundation like a do scenic transgressor make a possible exchange mutual between actor and appreciator. The statement of esthetics categories in joint continuous between the body, the text and the scenic space evident themselves in doing theatrical and in the its appreciation. We believe that the reflection esthetic about the Comedy dell Art in the arts class, consider the stich detached, can favor possibilities of to share discovery, ideas, feelings and attitudes, and can permit the observation of different stich of view, establishing the statement of individual with the group in a participative and democratic form / Fen?meno teatral nascido na It?lia, a Commedia dell Arte chegou ao seu apogeu no s?culo XVI e se espalhou pelo mundo todo podendo ser vista como a base do teatro moderno.

It was based on the investigation of its character's types in order to explore and expand 14 teachers' physical expression as a way to enable them to better introduce small children to theatre work. To carry out this investigation I have engaged these teachers in a workshop based on a process of appropriating and re-signifying the character's types by looking at their body language. The aim was to enlarge and extend the teachers' expressive physical repertory, in order open up alternatives for day-to-day classroom theatre work. The outcome of this workshop was a performance presented at 08 primary schools. A theoretical investigation of the role of the teacher for enlarging children's cultural capital backed this practice / Este estudo baseia-se na possível contribuição da Commedia dell‟arte para a formação de professores.
