Identifying Challenges in Cybersecurity Data Visualization Dashboards

Shirazi, Patrick January 2020 (has links)
Nowadays, a massive amount of cybersecurity data-objects, such as security events, logs, messages, are flowing through different cybersecurity systems. With the enormous fastdevelopment of different cloud environments, big data, IoT, and so on, these amounts of data areincreasingly revolutionary. One of the challenges for different security actors, such as securityadmins, cybersecurity analysis, and network technicians, is how to utilize this amount of data inorder to reach meaningful insights, so they can be used further in diagnosis, validation, forensicand decision-making purposes. In order to make useful and get meaningful insights from this data, we need to have efficientdashboards that simplify the data and provide a human-understandable presentation of data. Currently, there are plenty of SIEM and visualization dashboard tools that are using a variety ofreport generator engines to generate charts and diagrams. Although there have been manyadvances in recent years due to utilizing AI and big data, security professionals are still facingsome challenges in using the visualization dashboards. During recent years, many research studies have been performed to discover and address thesetypes of challenges. However, due to the rapid change in the way of working in many companies(e.g. digital transformation, agile way of working, etc.) and besides utilizing cloud environments, that are providing almost everything as a service, it is needed to discover what challenges are stillthere and whether they are still experiencing the same challenges or new ones have emerged. Following a qualitative method and utilizing the Delphi technique with two rounds of interviews, the results show that although the technical and tool-specific concerns really matter, the mostsignificant challenges are due to the business architecture and the way of working.

Consensus Views on Advance Care Planning for Dementia: A Delphi Study

Sinclair, J.B., Oyebode, Jan, Owens, R.G. 03 1900 (has links)
Yes / The uptake of advance care planning (ACP) is particularly low among people with dementia. This may reflect barriers to communication between professionals, patients and families in the face of lack of consensus about the process. This study aimed to methodically investigate consensus views of how ACP should be explained and carried out with people with dementia. A three-round Delphi study explored views of how and when ACP should be addressed, what should be covered, who should be involved and why rates of ACP are low. Seventeen participants took part comprising family members, old age psychiatrists and policy makers. Thirty-two items reached consensus. The panel agreed on 11 different areas for discussion. They concurred that ACP was best addressed after the person has come to terms with the diagnosis when the individual feels ready to do so. There was a consensus view that the process should be couched in terms of ‘certain possibilities’. Consensus items emphasised personal choice and autonomy, while also prioritising the need to discuss financial aspects and to include spouses. There was no consensus that professionals should be involved, although the panel viewed them as carrying some responsibility for low uptake. It is suggested that ACP should include general discussion of values as well as coverage of specific points. Professionals need to offer discussion and information on ACP, but also make clear that the patient has the right to choose whether to pursue ACP or not.

Souza, Alexandre Morais de 31 October 2013 (has links)
Database Management Systems Not Relational (NoSQL DBMSs) are software packages for data management using a non-relational model. Given the current context of growth in data generation and the need that organizations have to collect vast amount of customer information, scientific research, sales and other information for further analysis, it is important to rethink how to define a suitable DBMS considering economic, technical and strategic organization. Vigilância sanitária de serviços de vacinação: um roteiro para inspeção sanitária / Health surveillance of immunization services: a roadmap for sanitary inspection

Aragão, Juliana Alves 18 December 2015 (has links)
Introduction: The Health Surveillance Department conducts sanitary inspections to ensure that sanitary control services perform immunization activities appropriately. The absence of a roadmap for its realization results in a different behavior of services with similar conditions, caused by the lack of classification parameters constituting regulatory guidelines. Objectives: To develop, validate, and classify the Sanitary Inspection Guide (SIG) for immunization services. Method: Research was conducted in three phases: 1) documentary research, 2) development of the SIG, 3) validation of the content of the SIG and classifying it according to sanitary risks, using the Delphi Technique to identify the views and opinions of 6 professionals with experience in the sanitary surveillance and immunization field. Content validity was assessed using the following four criteria: simplicity, clarity, relevance, and accuracy. Each SIG item was evaluated using a 5-point Likert-scale to measure agreement among experts, which was defined as a content validity index (CVI) of >0.90. To classify SIG content according to the health risks associated with immunization services, the essential (E), necessary (N), and recommended (R) criticality criteria were used. Results: SIG content comprised five thematic blocks: 1. Origin, reception, and storage of vaccines; 2. Work process; 3. Physical structure; 4. Health services waste; and 5. General documents. In the first round of content validation, 54 of the 79 items evaluated for clarity, 42 for accuracy, 34 for simplicity, and 26 for relevance had a CVI < 0.90. In the second round, after the items were revised, the experts agreed that the content met the four criteria. When health risks were evaluated according to the criticality criterion, the 93 items were classified as follows: 70 as (E), 17 as (R), and 6 as (N). Conclusion: The SIG can be a useful tool for sanitation inspections; its use can help systematizing the SI and minimizing the occurrence of different behaviors of services with similar conditions, both for the issuance of operating license and penaltys.

The Materials and Sterilization Center is a unit that concentrates a large part of the set of materials used by a hospital institution. The Center has the responsibility to offer all items for patient/client care with quality and safety, be it for a diagnostic procedure, surgery or in health care. However, this demands investments in specific technology and sophistication in the processing of materials according to their conformity, requiring the professionals who work there to development professional skills and abilities consistent with institutional needs. Best Practices for Leading a Transition to Standards-Based Grading in Secondary Schools

Carter, Alexander Bruce 01 January 2016 (has links)
Educational policy researchers have concluded that if U.S. schools transition from the traditional model of grading and reporting to a uniform standards-based grading and reporting model, students would benefit academically. However, very few middle and high schools in the United States have made the transition to standards-based grading. This qualitative research study was designed address the role of leadership in change by identifying a set of best leadership practices to guide school principals in leading such a transition. The conceptual framework was Kotter's change model. A national sample of 7 middle and 5 high school principals from 8 states who had previously led their schools in the transition to standards-based grading elected to serve as study participants. This panel completed an open-ended questionnaire designed to identify perceived best leadership practices school leaders should consider as they plan to lead such a change. Using the Delphi technique to determine consensus, a set of 78 best leadership actions were identified. Then, these actions were rated by the same panel, resulting in a set of 8 best leadership change practices consistent with Kotter's framework. Practices included establishing and communicating a sense of urgency, developing a change vision and stakeholder buy-in, building coalitions and broad-based actions, generating short term wins and continuing processes, and incorporating change into school culture. This consensus set of leadership practices might affect positive social change by assisting school principals in planning and leading grading change initiatives in schools to enhance students' learning and improve systems of communicating student academic progress using uniform and consistent standards.

Affective Dispositions and Cognitive Skills in Critical Thinking: Implications for Measurement, Training, and Team Performance

Willis, Timothy John 26 August 2004 (has links)
This study attempts to increase critical thinking among teams by making them cognizant of seven critical thinking dimensions. Forty three-person teams of undergraduates worked together on a complex decision-making task. Each team received training in and was asked to ensure their group exhibited the characteristics of cognitive skills, affective dispositions, both of these or neither. Critical thinking was assessed using self-report, behavioral observation rating, and expert outcome analysis. The findings suggest training in affective dispositions increases the exhibition of at least one dimensions of critical thinking. A behavioral measurement is presented and evaluated with respect to established critical thinking methods.

Elder abuse through a prism of perceptions : perspectives of potential witnesses

Erlingsson, Christen January 2007 (has links)

The overall aim of this thesis was to deepen understanding of elder abuse (EA) by exploring and comparing perceptions held by experts, older persons, representatives of potential support organizations, and family members. Experts’ perspectives (I) were examined through risk indicators and screening questions (a) located in EA literature and (b) selected by an international Delphi panel. Risk indicators most commonly found in the literature or selected by the panel were compiled into consensus lists. There were differences between risk indicators and questions in the two lists. In papers II and III participants were interviewed in focus groups about their perceptions of EA. Older persons (II) considered EA to be due to changing society and family systems where children are not brought up to respect older persons. EA was mainly conceptualized as ageism, criminal actions, mistreatment in residential care, and societal abuse. The abuser was perceived as a stranger or a healthcare worker. Fear was discussed as a major consequence of EA; especially fear among women. Abused persons were described as carrying the responsibility to seek help. Witnesses were described as hesitant to get involved. Improvements in society such as educating children and healthcare workers were considered ways to cope with EA. Besides family and friends there were few spontaneous suggestions for where to seek help and support in society. These suggestions included healthcare, police, church, and volunteer organizations. Representatives of these suggested organizations were interviewed in focus groups about their perceptions of EA (III). Perceptions of both causes and conceptions of EA were very similar to perceptions of older persons (II). Four themes emerged in the data; good intentions in abusive situations, older generation’s responsibility for EA, failing to report abuse, and prevention of abuse. Participants (III) also expressed ageist attitudes themselves and findings included victim blaming and tolerance for EA. Participants perceived that anyone could be provoked to abuse, and that abusers can be considered victims in abusive situations. Confidentiality was discussed as a barrier to reporting and the need for educating children to show respect for older persons was identified. Interviews with an adult family member (IV) explored her experiences of witnessing abuse situations between her uncle and his wife. In her desire to protect and remain loyal to her family she felt powerless and tolerated abuse. She longed for support she could trust but was locked into passivity by her feelings of shame. Synthesis of findings (I – IV) revealed issues of isolation, autonomy, vulnerability, victim blaming, perceiving the abuser as a victim of circumstances, ageism, tolerating EA, shame, and power as essential elements in EA. Based on the findings, alternative descriptions of EA are offered as a challenge to existing EA definitions. Findings suggest that a key to unlocking EA is compassion, understood as the ability to see a situation as if we were in it ourselves, experiencing the potential for disrespect, shame and unworthiness inherent in abusive acts.
