The Impact of Demographic Variables and Sustainability Awareness on Purchase Intention on Second-hand Clothing in Nigeria

Adeyemi, Bolarinwa Agboola January 2023 (has links)
ABSTRACT  Background: Second-hand clothing has significantly continued to generate interest both in research and in the real world and emphasis ofexisting works revolve around history, motivations for buying and effect on the environment as well as the impact on the countries that these second-hand clothes are imported. Consumers’ demographics is expected to play a role in their intention to purchase certain goods including clothes and findings also revealed that people have begun to incorporate sustainability in their intention to purchase second-hand clothing. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of demographic variables and sustainability awareness on the consumers’ purchase intention on second-hand clothing. In other words, to investigate if statistical relationships exist between gender, age, income, educational level and sustainability awareness on the intention to purchase second-hand clothing. Method: This research was conducted through a quantitative method and five hypotheses were formulated based on the theory. An online survey was developed and shared through social media and sample of 111 respondents was generated. These responses were analysed through Excel and SPSS. Conclusion: Findings showed that none of the variables influenced consumers’ intention to purchase second-hand clothing. Implications: Business men can take advantage of this study to position their businesses using this findings to intensify their strategies since intention to purchase second-hand clothing has no relationship with gender, age, income, educational level and sustainability awareness. It also brought to light the level of sustainability awareness of the people and the need for the government to promote it. Originality: This work was the first to examine how demographic variables and sustainability awareness impact purchase intention on second-hand clothing in Nigeria. This contributes to existing second-hand clothing literature which is capable of inspiring comparative study and can also be useful for business decision.

The Influence of Socio-Demographic Variables On Recreational Trip Type, Trip Length and Trip Frequency

Hemingway, Maret Kovask 05 1900 (has links)
To date, the greatest success in predicting recreational travel patterns has been made by the Systems Theory Model. However, discrepancies still occur primarily due to the lack of accurate and extensive information on the socio-demographic variables that influence recreational travel. The research verified the assumption that socio-demographic variables warrant consideration in a recreational model. The analysis indicates specifically the types of socio-demographic variables that influence the various types of recreational travel. Due to a small sample size the results are not directly applicable to the model, however, they establish the types of socio-demographic variables that warrant consideration in a large sample survey. / Thesis / Bachelor of Arts (BA)

The relationship between transformational leadership and organisation culture

Seloane, Moshimane Peter 11 1900 (has links)
The main purpose of this study was to determine the positive relationship between transformational leadership and organisational culture using a sample of 238 employees of a military organisation. A secondary objective was to determine whether individuals from different race, position and age groups differ significantly in perception regarding transformational leadership and organisational culture. The instruments used in the study were the Leadership Profile Inventory and the Organisational Culture Inventory. The results of the empirical study indicated that there was a significant statistical positive relationship between transformational leadership and the constructive dimension of organisational culture. The findings also indicated that demographic groups differ significantly in perception regarding transformational leadership and organisational culture. It is recommended that interventions aimed at leadership development and organisational culture change take into consideration the relationship between transformational leadership and organisational culture. This study is concluded with recommendations for industrial and organisational psychology practices and further research. / Industrial and Organisational Psychology / M. Admin. Parental Involvement Typologies as Related to Student Achievement.

Derrick-Lewis, Stacia Maria 01 May 2001 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine specific parenting practices in four East Tennessee counties to determine their relationships, if any, to student achievement among various demographic groups. The investigation included status variables, such as parents' educational level, annual income level, and family structure. Students' Normal Curve Equivalent scores on the Terra Nova Standardized Test were used to measure student achievement. The Epstein (1987) typologies were used to classify parent involvement modalities. The analysis consisted of four research questions and were tested at the .05 level of significance. Pearson's product-moment, Spearman's rho, and Kendall's Tau B correlation coefficients were used to analyze the degree of relationship between Epstein's six typologies and student achievement. A t-test was used to describe the relationship between student achievement and the number of parents in the home. One-way Analyses of Variance were used to describe the relationships between student achievement and parents' educational and income levels. Kruskal Wallis tests were used to analyze differences in parental involvement by the number of parents in the home, parental income, and education levels. A Hierarchical Regression Analysis was also used to determine the extent to which parents' income, educational levels, and family structure assist in predicting student achievement. The sample consisted of 413 students in grade 4 in four counties in East Tennessee. Two schools were selected from each county as a representative sample of the population. The results of this study indicate significant relationships between student achievement and the parental involvement typologies of volunteering, learning at home, decision-making, and collaborating with the community. The relationships between student achievement and parental involvement in conjunction with parents' educational and income levels were also significant. Both parental involvement typologies and family demographics emphasize goals which are achieved most effectively when families and schools work together.

Household access to water and willingness to pay in South Africa: evidence from the 2007 General Household Survey

Kimbung,Ngum Julious January 2011 (has links)
<p>This study assesses the present level of household water access and the willingness to pay in South Africa. Although the general literature informs that progress has been made in positing South Africa above the levels found in most African countries, there are some marked inequalities among the population groups and across the provinces, with some performing well and others poorly in this regard. The study looks at the extent to which households differ in terms of water access and willingness to pay according to the province of residence. The study focuses on household heads / male and female, through different social and demographic attributes, by taking account of variables such as age, education&nbsp / attainment, geographic areas, and population group to name but a few. The data used in this study comes from the 2007 General Household Survey (GHS) conducted by Statistics South Africa. The scope is national and employs cross tabulation and logistic regression to establish relationships and the likelihood of living in a household with access to safe&nbsp / drinking water in South Africa. Results presented in this study suggest that the difference is determined by socio- demographic characteristics of each household such as age, gender, population group, level of education, employment status income, dwelling unit, dwelling ownership, living quarters, household size and income. It throws more light as to what needs to be taken into account when considering demand and supply of and priorities for water intervention from the household perspective.</p>

Associations Of Psychological Well-being With Early Maladaptive Schemas And Self-construals

Kose, Bahar 01 August 2009 (has links) (PDF)
The present study aimed 1) to examine possible influences of demographic variables (i.e., age, gender, marital status, sibling number, mother&rsquo / s education, father&rsquo / s education) on the various measures of the study (i.e., schema domains, self-orientations, and well-being measures i.e. depression, positive affect, negative affect, and reassurance-seeking) / 2) to examine the differences of schema domains on self-orientations of Balanced Integration Differentiation Model and also on well-being, and 3) to analyse the differences of four self-construals of Balanced Integration Differentiation Model on schema domains and well-being measures. In order to fulfill these aims 501 people between the ages 18-50 participated in the study. According to the results, having strong characteristics of schema domains were related to low levels of self-orientation dimensions of interpersonal integration orientation and intrapersonal differentiation orientation. Moreover, there was a positive correlation between having strong characteristics of schema domains and high depression, negative affect, and reassurance-seeking, but low positive affect. On the other hand, low level of related individuation self-construal was related to having high characteristics of schema domains. In addition to this, having high level of separated-patterning was positively correlated with having high characteristics of schema domains. In addition, self-construal of relatedindividuation was found to be related to high positive affect and correlated with low levels of depression, negative affect, and reassurance-seeking. Finally, separated-patterning was found to be related to low level of positive affect, while it was found to be correlated with high level of depression, negative affect, and reassurance-seeking. Findings, future directions, and clinical implications were discussed in the discussion section.

Parental Grief Reactions After An Infant Death

Yildirim, Sehnaz 01 December 2002 (has links) (PDF)
The aim of the present study was to examine whether there was a significant difference within each spouse&amp / #8217 / s reports on grief reactions after an infant death. It was also aimed to investigate whether demographic variables including gender, age, education of grieved parents, gender and age of deceased infant, presence of other children were predictors of parental grief reactions after an infant death. The sample of the present study consisted of 55 couples experiencing an infant death within the last 2 years. Sample was recruited through death records kept in hospital and municipalities of Ankara by the researcher. To test the hypotheses of the study paired samples t-test and stepwise regression analyses were performed. According to the results of the study, it was found that there was a significant difference within each spouse&amp / #8217 / s reports on despair, panic behavior, blame and anger, detachment, and disorganization as separate dimensions of grief. Mothers experienced higher levels of despair, panic behavior, blame and anger, detachment, and disorganization than fathers. There was no significant difference within each spouse&amp / #8217 / s score on personal growth. It was found that being a mother and having lost boy infant were proved as the predictors of parents&amp / #8217 / higher levels of grief reactions. Age and education of grieved parents, age of deceased infant, presence of other children were not associated with parental grief reactions. It was found that younger age of deceased infant and presence of other children were proved as predictors of grieved parents&amp / #8217 / higher levels of personal growth. The findings of the study were discussed with related literature.

Analys av en projektorganisations beslutsprocess : En fallstudie på Trafikverket / An analysis of a decision-making process in a project organization : A case study at Swedish Transport Administration

Rödström, Christin January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis has been to evaluate the improvement opportunities in project organizations' decision-making processes so that their deliveries can follow an overall approach. Furthermore, it may be used in different organizational models, such as public, private but also in public-private partnerships. The objectives have been to investigate differences in delivery quality as well as demographic differences based on the overall method.  A qualitative survey in the form of a case study has been carried out at the Swedish Transport Administration at the Investment-Technology &amp; Environment Department, where the internal method for Assessing the environmental impact of projects without planning has been analyzed in terms of quality and regional differences. A document study of 25 projects from the Swedish Transport Administration's six regions and semi structured interviews with project participants showed a wide spread and variation in both quality, prioritization of presentation and regional differences. The spread and variation of the results is probably due to the fact that the decisions of the projects are mainly taken on intuitive grounds, and that the overall method has been perceived and interpreted differently. This is also the case when comparing the different regions.  The most important insight from this study is the importance of using a rational decision-making model in order to get the projects to consistently use and present all the parts and elements included in the method. With a digital system for motivating and reporting the different parts, it would be easier to control and compare projects on a regional and national basis.
