In a scenario of GDP slowdown and uncertainty about inflation it would be expected that the unemployment rate had increased. However, the labor market showed satisfactory results in recent years. According to IBGE data, on the triennium 2011-2013, this index remained, with some stability, around 6%. In addition, it is possible to find different rates according to several sources available for the Brazilian labor market. In this context, this study aims to emphasize the main differences and similarities of each information sources and evaluate the reduction occurred in the unemployment rate over more than 10 years. To do so, the National Sample Survey of Households databases, from 2001 until 2013, will be used in order to analyze how the unemployment rate behaves on each different group that compose the workforce. The results indicate that populational factors were more important than economic ones, since the change in the age composition of the labor force accounted for 25% the fall of the 2005/2006 unemployment rate to 2012/2013.

The relationship between emotional intelligence, work engagement, creativity and demographic variables

Bartlett, Sindy 08 1900 (has links)
The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence, work engagement, creativity and demographic variables. A non-experimental and cross-sectional survey design was used and the population consisted of 180 employees working within a call centre division of an insurance organisation in South Africa. The participating sample consisted of 85 respondents which indicated a response rate of 47.2%. The Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (TEIQue-SF), Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES-17), the Creative Personality Scale (CPS) and the Alternate Uses Tasks were administered to all participants. A theoretical relationship was found by means of a literature study. The results of the empirical study suggest that there was a significant positive relationship between emotional intelligence, work engagement and creative personality. Emotional intelligence was reported to be a significant predictor of work engagement. Significant results were also found in terms of these constructs and demographic factors. / Industrial and Organisational Psychology / M. Com. (Industrial and Organisational Psychology)

The Demography of Employment in a Swedish County Council: Estimation and Mapping of Manpower Statistics in Östergötland

Papandreou, Andreas-Nikolaos January 2006 (has links)
The changing requirements in the modern labour market have led to a new form of economic geography of employment, where skills, wages and the uncertainty of employment play a primary role in the spatial division of labour. The main purpose of this project is to investigate the use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) as a tool to illustrate employment and unemployment in Östergötland County for giving information on the development of the labour market. In addition, the use of GIS for population data analysis with the help of Oracle’s map viewer is closely examined. This descriptive thesis reveals that the labour market is characterized by the geographic extension of the market and its determination by how far the supply and demand forces go and the important role that GIS plays in illustrating the distribution of workforce in Östergötland’s labour market. GIS is an analytical tool for employer/employee demographics that can be used for visualization but also for analysis and pre-processing purposes with the use of graphic tools. With the use of thematic maps, GIS can visualise spatial data with labour data according to certain demographic criteria. GIS technology has ways of mapping thematically the local labour market demand and supply. In addition, it is capable of constructing a comprehensive workforce development system that can integrate the job seekers and employers. GIS can facilitate the development of visual web-based mapping systems that allow users to investigate and find employees within various industries.

Důchodová reforma v České republice / Pension reform in the Czech Republic

Jabůrková, Eva January 2011 (has links)
Reforming pensions is necessary, because the current demographic trends are mainly characterized by aging population. Significant demographic changes are going to lead to great implications for output growth. To maintain the financial stability of pension system, reforms are necessary. The first part of this thesis deal with changes in the present Czech population and the demographic forecasts for next fifty years. The second part is devoted to analyzing the setting of the pension system. The third part describes the upcoming reform which proposes to introduce a combined pension system. The last part of my thesis is devoted to the possible benefits, risks, and fiscal capacity of implementing the combined pension system.

Stárnutí a politika zaměstnanosti v České republice v letech 2000-2012 / Ageing and employment policy in the Czech Republic in the years 2000 - 2012

Šubrtová, Tereza January 2012 (has links)
This thesis deals with the employment of older persons in the labor market in the Czech Republic. The aging of the population is currently becoming a major demographic feature in most developed countries, including the Czech Republic, which is causing social and economic problems. Employment of older persons is becoming more important. The aim of the study is to evaluate the development of the employment of older people in the Czech Republic in the years 2000 - 2012 and to propose measures that would contribute to its increase. In the theoretical part of the thesis are discussed factors that affect the employment of older persons. These include demographic changes, age discrimination, setting of the retirement system or measures of the European Union. Practical part of thesis is primarily engaged in employment of older persons in the Czech Republic and there are presented advantages and disadvantages of older workers and the proposals of individual actions that could contribute to increase the employment rate of older people.

The challenges of changing demographics in a midwestern school district: administrative interventions and teachers' responses

Kreinbring, Heather Hyatt 01 May 2010 (has links)
America's school-age population is experiencing a demographic shift. In 1972, students of color represented 22% of the school-age population; in 2005, minority students accounted for 33% of public school enrollment (Statistics, 2007 Villegas, 2002). This study sought to explore how these changing demographics affected University Town Community Schools, the district's interventions, and teachers' perceptions to those interventions. This study also explored teachers' feelings of efficacy when teaching minority students. Using a qualitative study among third-, fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-grade elementary school teachers, a random sample of 9 teachers from schools comprising a minority population of at least 40% were interviewed. Data analysis involved the use of themes that emerged from the interview data, observations, and quotations from participants. The findings indicated that the district acted on a school-by-school basis, with no specific actions to target any one racial group. Meanwhile, teachers were inconsistent when discussing race, behavior, and learning. Teachers felt comfortable assigning behaviors based on race and culture, but were hesitant to assign learning strengths and weaknesses based on race or culture.

Data Segmentation Using NLP: Gender and Age

Demmelmaier, Gustav, Westerberg, Carl January 2021 (has links)
Natural language processing (NLP) opens the possibilities for a computer to read, decipher, and interpret human languages to eventually use it in ways that enable yet further understanding of the interaction and communication between the human and the computer. When appropriate data is available, NLP makes it possible to determine not only the sentiment information of a text but also information about the author behind an online post. Previously conducted studies show aspects of NLP potentially going deeper into the subjective information, enabling author classification from text data. This thesis addresses the lack of demographic insights of online user data by studying language use in texts. It compares four popular yet diverse machine learning algorithms for gender and age segmentation. During the project, the age analysis was abandoned due to insufficient data. The online texts were analysed and quantified into 118 parameters based on linguistic differences. Using supervised learning, the researchers succeeded in correctly predicting the gender in 82% of the cases when analysing data from English online users. The training and test data may have some correlations, which is important to notice. Language is complex and, in this case, the more complex methods SVM and Neural networks were performing better than the less complex Naive Bayes and Logistic regression.

Hur påverkar demografi förekomsten och andelen omsättning i olika butikssegment? : En ekonomisk studie av dagligvaruhandeln / How does demographics affect the presence and the turnover share in different store segments? : An economic study of the non-durable goods business

Wirén, Joakim, Green, Johanna January 2019 (has links)
It is important for policy makers and retail chains to recognise how demographics affect the non- durable goods business in order to make qualified decisions about establishing new grocery stores. In this thesis, using data from 2016, we analyse how demographics affect the presence of different store segments at local markets in Sweden and how it affects the turnover share of different store segments. The segments were defined as a part of this thesis and are based on previous literature and the concept description made by each included company. Using logit regressions on urban districts, we find (i) that a larger share of population with foreign background increases the probability that at least one discount store is established in the district but decreases the probability that at least one traditional small store is established. Further, using an OLS-regression on urban districts we find (ii) that a larger share of population with foreign background increases the share of total turnover in discount stores and decreases the share of total turnover for traditional small stores. Finally, our result indicates (iii) that the flow of people significantly affects traditional large stores, both regarding their presence on local markets as well as their share of the total turnover. When using municipalities as local markets, our OLS-regression provides partly indefinite results, probably a consequence of the aggregated data. Our thesis contributes to the existent literature by analysing store establishment and demography in a Swedish context. Previous literature has mainly evaluated American and European markets.
