Dépersonnalisations : du traumatisme à la création / Depersonalizations : from trauma to creation

Foloppe, Virginie 10 November 2011 (has links)
Does creation as something to do with the "exercise of severe depersonalization" claimed by Gilles Deleuze in the invention of a personal identity? What methods, directors Alfred Hitchcock, Thomas Vinterberg and Kim Ki-duk they invented to represent women and men subject to the conditions so intolerable that depersonalize them ? Finally, what links can be made between a depersonalization that is a survival strategy to trauma, and another that reflects the tremendous power of the creative act ? My thinking is at the intersection part of two forms of depersonalization in which the psychoanalyst Michel M'Uzan said the radically different fates. Each, he says, is accompanied by distinct affect. Also from these essential differences in the quality of the emotion and the destiny, I analyze in my thesis, the manner in which the creator is able to show us how to deflect the destructive violence of one to for the creative power of the other. Throughout my demonstration, the frequent passages between the narration and the poïesis allowed me, as a result of the proposed Gilles Deleuze and the notion of creativity Donald Woods Winnicott, to consider also creation in terms of identity.

Considering that meaning and aesthetical intention of the impersonal poetry can vary, according to theoretical guidance adopted, in this work we have used the concepts of Impersonality and Depersonalization as theorized and practiced by Thomas Stearns Eliot (1888-1968), recognized English language author, whose work met great and immediate repercussion and influenced his generation and subsequent artists and by Fernando Pessoa (1888-1935), poet of great importance to the Portuguese language literature, who, as shown by previous researches, presents aesthetical work similar to the English language author s. In this work, we have listed the main points in which these authors concepts of poetic making distancing between personality and poetic voice are similar. Through this research, we have attempted to demonstrate that (1) the author Ana Cristina Cesar shared the aesthetic concepts of Eliot s and Pessoa s, presenting similar ideas to the ones listed and fundamental to the authors we have chosen; and (2) Cesar s poetic work presents similar characteristics of poetic depersonalization found in Pessoa s and Eliot s work, characterizing it as impersonal. Thus, our object is not only to investigate this important poet of Brazilian literature, but mainly demonstrated how she continues the aesthetic project of impersonallity developed and theorized by the authors cited, and, in a general manner, distancing between the author s personality and the poetic voice.

An exploration of the perceptions of non-admitting sex offenders of their family environment

Davids, Olivia Davene January 2014 (has links)
Magister Artium - MA / This study aims to explore the family environment of non-admitting sex offenders in order to gain insight into the family characteristics that could be contributing factors towards the behaviour of denial. However, the focus will not be on the families of the sex offenders, but rather on the non-admitting sex offenders’ views of their family environment. The theoretical framework used is the Social Learning Theory, because it supports the fact that most behaviour is learned through modelling the behaviour of others. The researcher used a qualitative approach and the aim of the study was to generate information that would describe the family environment of non-admitting sex offenders. The population of this study was incarcerated, sentenced sex offenders with specific focus on the non-admitting sex offender as the unit of analysis. Ten (10) participants were purposively selected for the study and semi-structured interviews were conducted with each one in order to generate the needed information for the study

Depersonalization Under Academic Stress: Frequency, Predictors, and Consequences

Schweden, Tabea L.K., Wolfradt, Uwe, Jahnke, Sara, Hoyer, Jürgen 26 May 2020 (has links)
Background: Based on the assumptions that depersonalization symptoms are relevant for test anxiety maintenance, we examined their frequency, psychological predictors, association with anxiety symptoms, and association with test performance. Sampling and Methods: In Study 1, 203 students rated their test anxiety severity and depersonalization in their last oral examination. In Study 2, we assessed test anxiety 1 week before an oral examination, depersonalization, safety behaviors, self-focused attention, and negative appraisals of depersonalization directly after the examination, and post-event processing 1 week later among 67 students. Results: In Study 1, 47.3% reported at least one moderate depersonalization symptom. In Study 2, test anxiety and negative appraisals of depersonalization significantly predicted depersonalization. Depersonalization was linked to a higher intensity of safety behaviors and post-event processing but not to self-focused attention. It was not related to performance. Conclusion: Results are limited by the non-random sampling and the small sample size of Study 2. However, by showing that depersonalization contributes to the processes the maintenance of test anxiety, the findings confirm that depersonalization – normally understood as an adaptive mechanism to cope with stressful events – can become maladaptive.

The opaque window: an investigation into the phenomenology of depersonalization and derealization

Caserta, Fabiana January 2022 (has links)
Depersonalization-Derealization Disorder (DDD) is a dissociative syndrome characterized by a sense of disconnectedness from one’s own self and the world around. People suffering from the condition report feeling like external observers, cut off from their own bodies, emotions and thoughts; their surroundings are perceived as unreal. The present thesis analyses DDD by sustaining the view that its phenomenology can be understood through Metzinger’s notion of phenomenal transparency. This idea is not entirely new: recent contributions (Ciaunica et al., 2020; Ciaunica et al., 2021; Seth et al., 2012) have framed the dramatic experiences of depersonalization and derealization as instances of highly opaque mental states. However, more detailed discussions of phenomenal transparency are sparse. My contribution wishes to partially fill in this gap. To elucidate the concept of transparency, I will first highlight the distinction between the classical representationalist notion of transparency and the metzingerian, phenomenal account of it. I will then argue that phenomenal transparency adequately describes the associated depersonalized phenomenology. Finally, I will attempt to present and dissipate ambiguities contained in the concept and address potential criticism regarding the redundancy of transparency as an explanatory tool for dissociative phenomena.

Ode to Amiel: A Micro-budget Experimental Essay Film

Redman, Phyllis 01 January 2015 (has links)
Ode to Amiel is a feature-length experimental essay film by Phyllis Redman, made as part of the requirements for earning a Master of Fine Arts in Film in the Entrepreneurial Digital Cinema track from the University of Central Florida. The film explores one woman's reaction to trauma and depersonalization disorder through the journal entries of 19th Century Swiss philosopher, Henri Frederic Amiel. Passages from Amiel's Journal Intime provide the narrative and voice over for the lead character, a grieving mother who finds herself locked behind an inescapable, invisible and immaterial barrier that separates her from the outside world. Following the guidelines of the film program, the film was produced on a micro-budget (under $50,000) level. The goal was to create a film that was effectively a no-budget film, one similar in process to that of Tarnation, an award-winning experimental film created for $200. With an actual shooting cost of under $1,000, Ode to Amiel met this challenge. This is the record of the film's progression from development to picture lock, in preparation for distribution.

The Effect Of National Board Certification On Burnout Levels In Educators

Judd, Tanya 01 January 2007 (has links)
Teacher attrition and retention has become a major issue facing education policymakers and practioners as our nation's school age population continues to grow, but the teaching workforce does not. This study seeks to examine the impact of certification by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) on burnout levels in educators. The potential benefits to teachers who pursue NBPTS certification include a sense of professional pride, new leadership roles and responsibilities for teachers, recognition of outstanding teaching practice, and higher salaries (Shapiro, 1995). Some of these potential rewards seem to address a number of the factors that are related to the onset burnout, and therefore may reduce teacher attrition. The study utilized the Maslach-Leiter conceptual framework to examine burnout, which breaks the burnout construct into three separate dimensions; emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced personal accomplishment. The research questions sought to determine if there was a difference between National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) and their non-certified peers in each of these dimensions of burnout. The research sample consisted of the NBCTs and a comparable random sample of their non-certified peers from a large urban school district in the Central Florida area. The Maslach Burnout Inventory Educators Survey was used a basis of comparison of the burnout levels. The two groups were compared utilizing an independent samples t-test. The instrument utilized in this study also included demographic questions, as well as questions that were designed to measure the various elements of the Maslach-Leiter theoretical model of burnout. These questions and the independent variable NBPTS certification were included in a multiple regression analysis in order to determine if the differences noted between the groups using the independent samples t-tests were in fact a result of NBPTS certification, and not the theoretical model itself. The instruments were mailed in the fall of 2006, and were returned to the researcher anonymously. A total of 476 surveys were returned, for a response rate of 52%. The independent samples t-tests revealed significant differences between NBCTs and their non-certified peers on all three dimensions of burnout. An examination of the individual scores for each group revealed that in each of the dimensions showed that the NBCTs demonstrated lower levels of experienced burnout in each dimension. The multiple regression analyses that were conducted to confirm that NBPTS certification was in fact a significant factor in the development of each burnout dimension revealed mixed results. Emotional exhaustion and reduced personal accomplishment were both found to have a significant negative relationship with NBPTS certification, which indicates that the NBCTs are significantly less burned out then their non-certified peers. Despite the initial finding of significance in the independent samples t-test, NBPTS certification was not found to be a significant factor in the onset of the depersonalization dimension of burnout. This relationship needs further exploration in future studies. The significant difference between the research and control groups in this study suggests that NBPTS certification may reduce burnout levels in at least two dimensions. Legislators and policymakers at the state and federal levels have provided millions of dollars to support NBPTS certification. These findings seem to indicate that this financial support has impacted burnout levels in educators, and may therefore warrant examination as a strategy to address the issue of teacher attrition.
