Dehumanization in the Theater of Valle-Inclán and Muñiz

Burgess, Debra S. 12 1900 (has links)
This study proposes to establish an intrinsic relationship between Valle-Inclán and Muñiz based on the theme of dehumanization in their theater. It examines (1) the stylistic techniques which each playwright uses to depersonalize his characters, (2) the manner in which these characters dehumanize each other, (3) the role of society as the agent of dehumanization, and finally, due to each author's preoccupation with one social convention in particular (4) the devastating effects on men of the vestiges of an outmoded code of honor. The principal works used for the study are Valle-Inclán's Martes de carnaval, Luces de Bohemia, and Divinas palabras, and El tintero, Un solo de saxofón, Las viejas difíciles, and El grillo by Carlos Muñiz. Such an analysis proposes to reveal a profound literary affinity between these two writers, a bond which unites Valle-Inclán and Muñiz in a common protest against the dehumanization of mankind.

A estética do silêncio em A Paixão segundo G.H., de Clarice Lispector

Fávaro, Karina Baldo 26 September 2012 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-28T19:58:47Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Karina Baldo Favaro.pdf: 466732 bytes, checksum: 2909ef4139c7a9bccad2523a47333ee9 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2012-09-26 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The study entitled The esthetics of silence in A Paixão segundo G.H. aims to analyze the esthetic meaning of silence and its forms of representation. The study takes into account the fictional expedients of silence that unfold by means of otherness, temporal plan of work and the extinction of the subject matter. The passion of G. H. is permeated by the process of depersonalization, denouncing the experiment of the author with the language. The dramatic struggle between speech and language is spread by the difficulty of the report and its experience markedly epiphanic transgresses what is really meant to say. On her work, the image built of an assumed reader, makes him a partner of the instability of the narrator, mistrusting her own narrative. This procedure makes the word evil and sadistic because it destabilizes who has participated in the trajectory of GH, experiencing her passion / A pesquisa intitulada A Estética do Silêncio em A Paixão segundo G.H. tem por objetivo analisar o significado estético do silêncio e de suas formas de representação.

The aspects related to deterritorialization and depersonalization of the central character of the novels will be addressed. Our objective is to propose a study, based on the works cited, taking contemporary critical theories as a critical analysis approach, considering the changes in aesthetic practice and the consequent rupture with the notion of art as a representation of reality. It is proposed as a methodological foundation, the bibliographical research with a view to approaching the cartographic tracings that contemplate the procedural events during the research. Thus, we will use the ideas of Deleuze and Guattari and Michel Maffesoli, with reference in deterritorialization and nomadism. Still from this perspective, other contributions like those of Walter Bejamin on the "loss of the aura"; Jean Baudrillard, in Simulacros and Simulation; Guy Debord, Scocius of the Spectacle; Jean-François Lyotard, The Postmodern Condition; Zigmund Bauman, the notion of Net Modernity, among others.

Contributing Factors to Burnout Development in the Mental Health Field: A Systematic Review

Newman, Ashley D 01 June 2017 (has links)
A significant amount of previous research has addressed burnout among mental health professionals who work with individuals with severe and persistent mental disorders. Multiple issues can contribute to burnout including organizational factors, severity of client diagnosis, and low quality supervision (Lasalvia et al., 2009, Ballenger-Browning et al., 2011, Kozlawska, Nunn, & Cousens, 1997). The purpose of this study is to identify the most critical elements of burnout among public mental health professionals. This study is a systematic review, using 10 key articles, of existing literature on elements of burnout and contributing factors to developing burnout in public mental health professionals. The search yielded three major categories of dynamics: client specific characteristics, individual worker characteristics, and organizational/environmental characteristics. Identifying the red flag contributors to burnout in this segment of social work will be essential informing clinician’s practice in public mental health. Additionally, the findings from this study may be effective in macro practice in informing large-scale trainings for social workers as well as policy and legislation.

CROSS - PROFESSIONAL COMPARISON OF SOCIAL WORK BURNOUT

Schaal, Heather Lynn 01 June 2018 (has links)
Burnout in the social work field is becoming increasingly common due to the emotional intensity of the client-social worker relationship and job demands. Research has shown that burnout has detrimental effects not only on the social worker themselves but on clients and agencies as well. Limited research exists examining which professional setting of social work experiences the highest level of burnout. This study used secondary data collected by, Dr. Lizano in 2016 from the 4thAnnual California State University, San Bernardino BASW and MSW Field Instructor Training. A quantitative method was used to analyze which setting of social work (child welfare, mental health, medical, and educational) has the highest level of burnout. Findings from this study suggest there is a relationship between mental health social workers experiencing burnout compared to the other fields of social work. Specifically, depersonalization was the only dimension of job burnout that had significant findings among mental health social workers. This study has implications on both the micro and macro level of social work. Being able to identity which setting of social work is suffering the most from burnout is crucial to develop preventative measures for social worker well-being.

The Life Pattern of People with Spinal Cord Injury

Alligood, Ronald R., II 01 January 2006 (has links)
This aim of this study was to answer the research question: "What is the Life Pattern of the Person with Spinal Cord Injury?" The unitary appreciative inquiry design, which has conceptualized through Rogers' (1986) science of unitary human beings, provided an approach for understanding the phenomenon in the context of human wholeness. The data, obtained through the methodology of unitary appreciative inquiry, led to the development of individual synopses for each of the participants. Once the synopses were completed, a composite pattern profile was constructed by the researcher that was indicative of the life pattern of people with spinal cord injury. The participants in the study validated the synopsis and pattern profile as accurate representations of their experience with spinal cord injury. This qualitative study, which was comprised of eight people who had undergone a spinal cord injury more than two years prior to the study, discovered three shared pattern manifestations: depersonalization; loss; and hopelessness. Although each person within this inquiry had a very good physical outcome concerning their spinal cord injury, the participants were not pleased with their current state of being. The pattern of despair, which was validated by the participants, was manifested through the profound sense of depersonalization, loss, and hopelessness.

Étude de la formation du contrat électronique, comparaison droit français et droit marocain / Study of the formation of electronic contract, comparison between French law and Moroccan law

Chahbar, Taoufik 20 November 2018 (has links)
The e-commerce business is usually embodied in a traditional legal tool made available to economic actors by the law: the contract. This one is usually signed from afar. Thus it is dematerialized. In addition, there is the possibility of depersonalization and internationalization thanks to the ability of computer networks to break free of borders. These characteristics of the e-commerce contract have disrupted the legal framework. The latter being essentially aimed at regulating a contractual relationship in which the parties involved are human beings by using tangible elements. In such a situation, an adjustment process due to the new parameters of the electronic commerce contract is required for the law to avoid a historical setback. French and Moroccan laws have proved to be reactive insofar as contract law here and there already witnesses a process of adaptation to the new parameters of the electronic commerce contract. The analysis of such a process reveals; the advent of rules specific to such a contract; certain rules have been declared inapplicable; some institutions have been rethought taking into account these new parameters and definitions of existing concepts have been introduced as part of such a process. The comparison between French contract law and Moroccan contract law in the field of electronic commerce contracts allowed us to observe the shortcomings. Thus, we noted, but not exhaustively, that: the capacity-rule in the current state of French or Moroccan positive law is detrimental to the signing of the contract by "electronic agents"; the application of the reasonable time limit to the offer by electronic means under French law is incompatible with the need for competitive intelligence which is felt in the virtual market (cyberspace) more than elsewhere; the Moroccan legislator has been quite firm in recognizing the quality of the offer through electronic means by ignoring certain advertising techniques which allow immediate sale; etc. Any initiative likely to fill such gaps must be entrusted to the case law, since the case-law is not mandatory, it is likely to be rejected or modified at any time when a new case is examined. This turnaround possibility makes it possible to work alongside the evolving nature of the e-commerce contract. The legislator's intervention in the field of electronic commerce contracts, insofar as it is necessary, must be limited to adopting existing legal frameworks in order to remove the real obstacles resulting from a legal constraint.

The Effects of Attachment Relationships on the Development of Effects of Empathy or Depersonalization in Adolescence

Lamanna, John 01 May 2007 (has links)
Research on attachment theory supports the notion that our early attachment relationships are integral to empathic development, and that early negative attachment relationships can promote depersonalization rather than empathy. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of separations from one’s primary caregiver(s) on the development of empathy or depersonalization in adolescence. Adolescents who have been separated from their biological parent(s) due to abuse and/or neglect were expected to differ on self-reported levels of empathy, dissociation, hostility, and depression when compared to adolescents who have not had such involuntary separations in their life. After performing descriptive, correlational, and inferential analyses, results indicated that there was not a significant difference between the groups on self-reported levels of empathy, dissociation, hostility, or depressive symptomatology. It is important to note, though, that more than half of the youth who were involuntarily separated from their biological parent(s) continued to view at least one of their parents as a positive attachment figure, and there was not a significant difference between groups on the number of positive attachments reported. The findings in this study were interpreted as supportive of the applications of attachment theory to past empathy research, since differences on the dependent variables were not expected if there were not differences in attachment between the two groups. The results also supported the seminal work of John Bowlby by affirming the role of perception and the cognitive appraisal of attachment figures on attachment security. Furthermore, the results validated the use of the Social Networks Questionnaire (SNQ) and supported its use, in conjunction with the Social Support Questionnaire-Short Form (SSQ6), to assess attachment relationships.

The experience of people diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder in the workplace : perspectives of therapists / S. Vos

Vos, Sonet January 2003 (has links)
Awareness due to increase crime has highlighted the occurrence of immense personal and social problems. Problems resulting from disorders such as Schizophrenia, Alzheimer's and Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) are less common but have a profound impact on all of us. Research has shown that 97% of people with severe abuse and life trauma before the age of nine, develop DID. The objective of this study was to investigate (from the perspectives of therapists) the experience of people diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) in the workplace. A qualitative research design was used to capture the essence of the individual's experience thereby enabling the researcher to develop an understanding from the participant's point of view. In this study seven therapists were interviewed and each completed a questionnaire. This was the basis used to demonstrate the typical behaviour of DID in the workplace. The results indicated that DIDs cope to a certain extent but tend to switch (switching) personalities when exposed to trauma, stress or events that triggers past life trauma. Defense mechanisms and switching can have a negative influence on the organisation and its employees, but most of all on the DID. If professional treatment is available, the condition can be fully cured. Most patients treated were female, averaged 29 years of age, were single, and had experienced some kind of abuse. Patients experienced problems directly related to DID, such as lack of concentration, attention deficiency and memory loss, depression, migraine and constant headaches. Their behaviour is inconsistent and unpredictable, and they experience relationship problems. Results show that DIDs can hold relatively senior positions but tend to change jobs on a regular basis. Although this condition can be differentiated from other Psychological conditions, most DIDs have previously been misdiagnosed. A Psychological-based paradigm is mostly used to diagnose the condition. Recommendations to the organisation (especially to the HR department) and recommendations for future research were made. / Thesis (M.Com. (Industrial Psychology))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2004.
