One-year UDP: a cost/benefit analysis of a proposed alternative to the Marine Corps' Unit Deployment Program for fighter aviation

Hacker, Earl W. 12 1900 (has links)
Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited / The author examines the incremental costs and benefits associated with a change from six-month unit deployments to one-year unit deployments. The analysis is based primarily on five fighter squadrons participating in the Marine Corps' Unit Deployment Program and takes in the period July 1976 to October 1988. Regression analysis is used to project transportation cost savings of $4 million in real terms from FY 1989 through FY 1993. With a change to a one-year Unit Deployment Program, fighter squadrons should experience net increases in aircraft readiness, aircrew training readiness, and personnel retention. / http://archive.org/details/oneyearudpcostbe00hack / Lieutenant Colonel, United States Marine Corps

The design of a high volume manufacturing line using a strategic management approach : the design, planning and implementation of the high volume manufacturing line with emphasis on Lean Manufacturing, Total Quality Management and Change Management principles

Yumbla, Roberto January 2012 (has links)
This thesis examines and develops a proposed manufacturing system methodology and quality control for the design, planning, scheduling and implementation of the Thermiculite 866 high volume manufacturing line, through the use of Lean Manufacturing, Total Quality Management and Change Management principles. The concept under investigation extends to the analysis of flow production benefits and restrictions considering specific characteristics of the product. A novel factory design methodology is proposed to achieve required production volumes and cost effective implementation. Furthermore, high product quality levels are warranted by developing a Strategic Alignment of Quality Function Deployment which brings commercial awareness to the early stages in the product/process development, and reduces the time to market it whilst promoting long-term solutions. The process and the layout design are supported by a proposed Batch/Flow Comparative Matrix. As a result, the proposed factory design methodologies and management of change introduced in the organization led to a successful production system design as well as controlled implementation according to stakeholders requirements. The design and partial implementation of the Thermiculite 866 production line illustrates the effectiveness of the methodology proposed in this thesis to manage and design the equipment and quality for the future Thermiculite production line.

Building Stress- Resilience among Swedish Humanitarian Aid Workers : - The Pre- Deployment Preparation from the Humanitarian Aid Workers’ Perspective

Bjällfalk, Emelie January 2017 (has links)
The aim of the study is to examine how well MSB (Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency) prepare the Swedish humanitarian aid workers to face stressful situations, looking at the pre- deployment preparation received. The study investigates how effective and relevant the pre- deployment preparation is in terms of building resilience against stress, according to the humanitarian aid workers’ experience. This study has been conducted with a quantitative online survey, combined with a qualitative open- ended survey. The surveys were based on research models on work-related stress and on resilience- building among humanitarian aid workers. The frameworks point out criteria needed to be fulfilled by an organization in order to build sufficient stress- resilience among humanitarian aid workers in the pre- deployment phase. The results reveal that MSB is able to fulfill most of the criteria set in accordance with the theoretical framework. The one and only criterion MSB fails in providing is an open, in- depth discussion about mental health before the aid worker is deployed. This also corresponds to the aid workers experience of not being provided with this. The aid workers’ experience reveals that resilience against stress is important, however, many seem to build resilience independently from MSB.

Implications of parental deployment for Army National Guard and Army Reserve families: practitioners’ role in supporting adolescents

Richmond, Chelsea Lee January 1900 (has links)
Master of Science / Department of Family Studies and Human Services / Bronwyn Fees / Since the September 11th, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States, a large number of service members have deployed multiple times to active combat zones as a result of U.S. involvement in the global war on terrorism. Army National Guard and Army Reserve families may find these deployments challenging as they are often isolated by living in civilian communities and have limited access to military support services and networks. Adolescents who live in these families may be particularly vulnerable as the stressors of parental deployment are layered on top of the normative stressors of adolescent development. This report will examine the challenges that adolescents and their families experience as a result of parental deployment. Additionally, protective factors that can help mitigate those challenges will also be discussed. Finally, Bronfenbrenner’s bioecological theory will be used as a framework to identify ways in which parents, schools, communities, and the U.S. Army can support adolescents, thus helping them to positively cope with parental deployment.

[en] AN INFRASTRUCTURE FOR DISTRIBUTED EXECUTION OF SOFTWARE COMPONENTS / [pt] UMA INFRA-ESTRUTURA PARA A EXECUÇÃO DISTRIBUÍDA DE COMPONENTES DE SOFTWARE

CARLOS EDUARDO LARA AUGUSTO 04 March 2009 (has links)
[en] Support infrastructures for component-based software systems usually include facilities for installation, execution and dynamic configuration of the system component`s dependencies. Such facilities are specially important when those system components execute in a distributed environment. In this work, we investigate some of the problems that must be handled by runtime infrastructures for distributed systems based on software components. To perform such investigation, we developed a set of services for the OpenBus middleware, aiming to provide facilities for execution of distributed applications. To illustrate and evaluate the use of the developed services, we present some examples where the infrastructure is used for executing test scenarios of a distributed application.

Kravprioritering i system-av-system systemarbeten / Requirements engineering in system-of-systems design

Nilsson, Urban January 2019 (has links)

Hermenêutica das bases ancestrais da educação e seus desdobramentos simbólicos nos movimentos indígenas no Equador / Hermeneutic of the ancestral bases of the education and its symbolic unfolding in the indigenous movements in Ecuador

Paredes, Edesmin Wilfrido Palacios 22 June 2011 (has links)
The central objective is to study and understand the ancestral education basis and its consequences symbolic ancient hermeneutic of native movements in Ecuador. The myth-hermeneutic contribution presents, in ancient philosophy and style, maintaining an attitude of interest and questioning, as well as research method provides systematic procedures for academic research. With this approach, specifically, in the first chapter, we emphasize in the contact with the researcher, hermeneutic style \"fusion\" which is self-understanding as a starting point, middle and end of each day\'s works interpretation, the second chapter highlights the natives movement, in the third chapter includes the spirituality concepts in college students and dialogue with native Amerindian descent, in the chapter fourth, articulates the ancestry and symbolism. On the basis of the topics discussed, we come to the view that the daily life, the everyday, the symbolism of Amerindian, for example - public, the community, distribution, duality, the complementarity, Minga, the territory, space and descent - are present and seem to reinforce the fight to claim the identity, spirituality, and therefore the recognition of natives status in Ecuadorian society. It is believed that the ancestors continue to emerge as an alternative reading of the contemporary world and its complexity. Therefore, it is suggested that education should play a major role in the rescue and the transmission of natives indigenous culture. However, with a rationality that is leading the dialogue between cultures. This is a sign of dialogue between cultures.

An investigation of Automating Software Deployment Using Continuous Delivery Tools : A cost-benefit study in the case of multiple system instances / En undersökning av automatisering av mjukvaruleverans med hjälp av verktyg för Continuous Delivery : En kostnad-nytta-studie i fallet med multiple systeminstanser

Touma, Yousif January 2019 (has links)
Manual deployments of software is a tedious, repetitive and non-scaling method of deploying software.Continuous Delivery is a practice that enables automated deployment of software in a rapid fashion at the click of a button. When deciding whether to start using a new practice, software companies need to make an assessment from a cost-benefit perspective. This thesis compares automated deployments through Continuous Delivery with manual deployments from a cost perspective. The comparison is done at a small software company where two tools for Continuous Delivery are chosen based on requirements imposed by the company. The tools, Octopus Deploy and Azure DevOps, are cost efficient to different degrees.Octopus is cost efficient if several deployments per week are necessary, particularly if many deployment targets are involved.Azure DevOps is quickly cost efficient in most cases due to its pricing scheme, only needing roughly one deployment per week for few deployment targets, and a couple of deployments per year for many deployment targets. The initial cost of having a paid employee set up the tool needs to be paid off, but is easily done within a year using weekly deployments with a small number of deployment targets.

DevOps compliant guidelines for project inception-elaboration phases

Bacha, Kirill January 2019 (has links)
DevOps is an ill-defined but trending approach to software development. Many companies are seduced by its promises of reduced costs and risks. DevOps life-cycle is often represented as a continuous everything, but very little is said about how to get the ball rolling. This report examines how DevOps definitions are represented in the initiation of Agile projects. By interviewing developers and mapping their project initiation activities in a DevOps context, a set of guidelines was formed. Continuous Integration and Deployment were found most prominent DevOps attributes from a developer’s perspective. The operational responsibility is skewed toward maintenance, with low interest in further adjustment.
