Predicting the sound field from aeroacoustic sources on moving vehicles : Towards an improved urban environment

In a society where environmental noise is becoming a major health and economical concern, sound emissions are an increasingly critical design factor for vehicle manufacturers. With about a quarter of the European population living close to roads with heavy traffic, traffic noise in urban landscapes has to be addressed first. The current introduction of electric vehicles on the market and the need for sound systems to alert their presence is causing a shift in mentalities requiring engineering methods that will have to treat noise management problems from a broader perspective. That in which noise emissions need not only be considered as a by-product of the design but as an integrated part of it. Developing more sustainable ground transportation will require a better understanding of the sound field emitted in various realistic operating conditions, beyond the current requirements set by the standard pass-by test, which is performed in a free-field. A key aspect to improve this understanding is the development of efficient numerical tools to predict the generation and propagation of sound from moving vehicles. In the present thesis, a methodology is proposed aimed at evaluating the pass-by sound field generated by vehicle acoustic sources in a simplified urban environment, with a focus on flow sound sources. Although it can be argued that the aerodynamic noise is still a minor component of the total emitted noise in urban driving conditions, this share will certainly increase in the near future with the introduction of quiet electric engines and more noise-efficient tyres on the market. This work presents a complete modelling of the problem from sound generation to sound propagation and pass-by analysis in three steps. Firstly, computation of the flow around the geometry of interest; secondly, extraction of the sound sources generated by the flow, and thirdly, propagation of the sound generated by the moving sources to observers including reflections and scattering by nearby surfaces. In the first step, the flow is solved using compressible detached-eddy simulations. The identification of the sound sources in the second step is performed using direct numerical beamforming with linear programming deconvolution, with the phased array pressure data being extracted from the flow simulations. The outcome of this step is a set of uncorrelated monopole sources. Step three uses this set as input to a propagation method based on a point-to-point moving source Green's function and a modified Kirchhoff integral under the Kirchhoff approximation to compute reflections on built surfaces. The methodology is demonstrated on the example of the aeroacoustic noise generated by a NACA air inlet moving in a simplified urban setting. Using this methodology gives insights on the sound generating mechanisms, on the source characteristics and on the sound field generated by the sources when moving in a simplified urban environment. / I ett samhälle där buller håller på att bli ett stort hälsoproblem och en ekonomisk belastning, är ljudutsläpp en allt viktigare aspekt för fordonstillverkare. Då ungefär en fjärdedel av den europeiska befolkningen bor nära vägar med tung trafik, är åtgärder för minskat trafikbuller i stadsmiljö en hög prioritet. Introduktionen av elfordon på marknaden och behovet av ljudsystem för att varna omgivningen kräver också ett nytt synsätt och tekniska angreppssätt som behandlar bullerproblemen ur ett bredare perspektiv. Buller bör inte längre betraktas som en biprodukt av konstruktionen, utan som en integrerad del av den. Att utveckla mer hållbara marktransporter kommer att kräva en bättre förståelse av det utstrålade ljudfältet vid olika realistiska driftsförhållanden, utöver de nuvarande standardiserade kraven för förbifartstest som utförs i ett fritt fält. En viktig aspekt för att förbättra denna förståelse är utvecklingen av effektiva numeriska verktyg för att beräkna ljudalstring och ljudutbredning från fordon i rörelse. I denna avhandling föreslås en metodik som syftar till att utvärdera förbifartsljud som alstras av fordons akustiska källor i en förenklad stadsmiljö, här med fokus på strömningsgenererat ljud. Även om det aerodynamiska bullret är fortfarande en liten del av de totala bullret från vägfordon i urbana miljöer, kommer denna andel säkerligen att öka inom en snar framtid med införandet av tysta elektriska motorer och de bullerreducerande däck som introduceras på marknaden. I detta arbete presenteras en komplett modellering av problemet från ljudalstring till ljudutbredning och förbifartsanalys i tre steg. Utgångspunkten är beräkningar av strömningen kring geometrin av intresse; det andra steget är identifiering av ljudkällorna som genereras av strömningen, och det tredje steget rör ljudutbredning från rörliga källor till observatörer, inklusive effekten av reflektioner och spridning från närliggande ytor. I det första steget löses flödet genom detached-eddy simulation (DES) för kompressibel strömning. Identifiering av ljudkällor i det andra steget görs med direkt numerisk lobformning med avfaltning med hjälp av linjärprogrammering, där källdata extraheras från flödessimuleringarna. Resultatet av detta steg är en uppsättning av okorrelerade akustiska monopolkällor. Steg tre utnyttjar dessa källor som indata till en ljudutbredningsmodel baserad på beräkningar punkt-till-punkt med Greensfunktioner för rörliga källor, och med en modifierad Kirchhoff-integral under Kirchhoffapproximationen för att beräkna reflektioner mot byggda ytor. Metodiken demonstreras med exemplet med det aeroakustiska ljud som genereras av ett NACA-luftintag som rör sig i en förenklad urban miljö. Med hjälp av denna metod kan man få insikter om ljudalstringsmekanismer, om källegenskaper och om ljudfältet som genereras av källor när de rör sig i en förenklad stadsmiljö. / <p>QC 20170425</p>

Neste trabalho foi realizado um estudo utilizando os modelos de turbulência Simulação das Grandes Escalas, Large Eddy Simulation (LES), e Simulação dos Vórtices Desprendidos, Detached Eddy Simulation (DES), para simular o escoamento compressível interno em um duto contendo válvulas controladoras na saída dos gases de combustão de um reator de craqueamento catalítico fluido, com o objetivo de comparar o desempenho numérico e computacional de ambas as técnicas. Para isso foi utilizado um programa comercial de dinâmica dos fluidos computacional, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), que possui em seu código os dois modelos de turbulência. / In the present work a study was conducted using Large Eddy Simulation (LES) and Detached Eddy Simulation (DES) turbulence models in order to simulate the internal compressible flow in a duct containing the flue gas discharge control valves of a fluid catalytic cracking reactor so as to compare the numerical and computational behavior of both techniques. A commercial Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software, which includes these turbulence models in its code, was used.

本研究主要探討電源供應器產業之突破式創新的可能性。透過文獻了解創新的涵意和學者對創新的分類,深入比較「維持性創新」(Sustaining Innovation)與其高階入侵(High-end encroachment),以及「突破式創新」(Disruptive Innovation)之三種低階入侵(Low-end encroachment)方式,分別為:即刻市場入侵(Immediate low-end encroachment)、邊緣市場入侵(Fringe-market low-end encroachment)、分離市場入侵( Detached-market low-end encroachment)。 首先探究電源供應器之技術、產業現況、供應鏈結構及電源供應器的應用分類;將無線充電器歸類為新科技,針對無線充電技術的市場、聯盟、應用、未來機會做深入的剖析。為驗證無線充電技術之突破式創新的可能性分析,本研究採取學者Schmidt(2008)所提之「辨別創新的三步驟」進行突破性創新的驗證,以「無線方便性」與「充電速度」為關鍵指標。現有充電器的消費者比較重視「充電速度」,而新市場的消費者比較在意「無線方便性」,兩者的需求曲線不同,無線充電科技因提供與既有市場不同的新功能,所以被歸類為「低端突破式創新」之「分離市場」入侵。分離市場的消費者願意為無線的方便性付出較高的價格購買新產品。在新產品推出初期不會侵蝕主流市場的銷售,但經過一段時間,當價格下降及充電速度性能提升後,新產品會「低端突破」原有市場;到最後,新產品會往主流市場及高階市場擴散而影響既有產業和原來的市場結構。 本文藉由與產業專家的深入訪談得知目前既有企業對於新科技尚未開始準備,著實也驗證了Christensen(2005)提過主流企業常常因為過度著重現有技術,而忽略突破性科技的存在。最後,本文建議既有電源供應器產業應多留意突破性科技的入侵且適時跨入新科技,才能在突破性科技崛起時做好準備。 / The main purpose of this research is to examine the potential of disruptive innovation on the power supply industry. This article investigates the definitions and the classifications of innovation by various scholars. It identifies sustaining innovation with its high-end encroachment and disruptive innovation with its three approaches of low-end encroachment which are immediate, fringe-market, and detached-market. This article reviews the power supply industry and its technology, applications, market status, supply chains and then investigates the wireless charging industry and its technologies, evolutions, standards, and market opportunities. To identify the potential of wireless charging becoming disruptive technology, the article refers to the three-step framework of Schmidt (2008) to assess the potential diffusion pattern. The primary attribute of the incumbent is the charging time whereas the primary attribute of new technology is its wireless convenience. The results classify wireless charging as a low-end detached-market encroachment. The current and new products initially sell to the two opposite ends of the market and the highest willingness to pay for each market in the beginning are different, which are “detached “from one another. Over time, charging time would be expected to improve and cost would be expected to decrease, wireless chargers will be more favorable to high-end users of the wired chargers, and eventually current market will be encroached by the new technology. The interviews with incumbents present that current power supply firms have not initiated the development of wireless technology. Companies usually pursue sustaining innovations at the higher tiers of their markets because this is what has historically helped them succeed and they often missed the chances to disruptive innovation. (Christensen, 2005) The results suggest the established organizations to take more efforts to start looking into the disruptive technology so that established organizations will not be displaced by the new firms.

Analýza realitního trhu v regionu Strakonicko

The aim of this thesis is to proces a digest about a status of real estate market in the region of Strakonicko. While proceeding the given topic I first made a literary background research, which is above all engaged in the explanation of basic terminology connected with the real estate market and also in the theoretical description of individual segments of the market. Furthermore, I prescribed a methodology, which I later acted upon during a creation of my own thesis. In the practical part of the thesis I first of all created a detailed characteristics of the researched area and identified characterisctics of a full area. I focused especially on unemployment, job opportunities, population, infrastructure and other elements which can influence the prices of real estates. I divided the researched area into three parts according to the biggest towns in the region. In each of these I observed the prices of real estates in the individual segments. Concretely what is discussed here is the market with flats, detached houses, building ground and commercial real estates. I stated qualitative, build-technical, urbanistic and economic characteristics of agents for individual segments. Afterwards I numerically represented a price range of individual groups of real estates and analysed a real estate market.

Riktvärdet på tomtmark : En jämförelse mellan lantbruk och småhus som visar orsaker till värdeskillnaden / The guide value of plots of land : A comparison between farms and houses showing causes of the difference in value

I Sverige taxeras alla fastigheter vart tredje år (förutom industri och elproduktion som görs vart sjätte år) med antingen en allmän eller förenklad fastighetstaxering. En arbetsgrupp bestående av personer från Skatteverket, Lantmäteriet och ett värderingsföretag arbetar tillsammans med förberedelsearbetet inför en taxering. Där massvärderas alla fastigheter och olika tabeller, riktvärden och värdefaktorer upprättas. Det framkom i en jämförelse av taxeringsvärden för lantbruk 2017 och småhus 2018 att det fanns värdeskillnader i riktvärdet på tomtmark för lantbruk jämfört med tomtmark för småhus på landsbygd. Riktvärdet för lantbruken var högre inom många värdeområden i Sverige, vilket det ibland ska vara på grund av olika bakomliggande orsaker. När sådana orsaker saknas vill Lantmäteriet ha en förklaring till varför dessa skillnader i riktvärdet uppstått. Syftet är att undersöka bakomliggande orsaker till, att riktvärdena på tomtmark kan skiljas åt så mycket som de gör på många platser i Sverige. Målet är att klargöra om det geografiska läget på värdeområdena har någon påverkan. Vidare är en förhoppning att resultatet ska kunna bidra till en mer likvärdig värdering i framtiden, och därmed minska de geografiska skillnaderna. Studien har avgränsats till att jämföra länen som hade flest värdeområden med värdeskillnader. Det var Västra Götalands-, Stockholms- och Skånes län. Ytterligare avgränsning har gjorts genom att bara ta med värdeområden som har en skillnad på minst 20%. Metoderna som använts är en kombination av arkivstudie, intervjuer och kartläggning. Många möjliga orsaker till skillnader i riktvärdet grundar sig på, hur taxeringssystemet är uppbyggt, hur värderingen genomförs av de olika fastighetstyperna samt hur det geografiska läget påverkar värdeskillnaderna. Det är orsaker såsom hur så kallade “hästgårdar” taxeras, litet ortsprismaterial för lantbruken, tillförlitligheten på taxeringsuppgifterna, brist på lokalkännedom, de olika metoderna som används, hjälptabellernas inverkan och värderingsteknikernas olika utbildning och specialisering. Även läget i Sverige, nära tätort eller strandnära lägen samt lantbrukens ofta högt belägna lägen, spelar roll i värderingarna,och kan vara en orsak till värdeskillnader för riktvärdet på tomtmarken. / In Sweden, all properties are assessed every three years (except industrial and electricity production properties that has every six years) with either a general or simplified property assessment. A team consisting of persons from Skatteverket, Lantmäteriet and a valuation company works together with the preparation work for a tax assessment where all properties are mass valued and different tables, benchmarks and value factors are established. A comparison of farm rateable values in 2017 and single-family houses in 2018 showed that there were differences in the benchmark of plots of land of farms compared to land for detached houses in rural areas. The benchmark for farms was higher in many value areas in Sweden, which they should sometimes be due to different underlying reasons, but when such reasons are missing, Lantmäteriet wants an explanation for why these differences in the benchmark have arisen. The aim is to investigate the underlying reasons why the guide values on plots of land can separated as much as they do in many places in Sweden. The aim is to clarify whether the geographical location of the value areas has any impact and connection with each other. Furthermore, it is hoped that the result will contribute to a more equal valuation in the future and reduce geographical differences. The study has been limited to comparing the counties with the most value areas with value differences, which was the counties of Västra Götaland, Stockholm and Skåne. Further delimitation has been made by only include value ranges that have a difference of 20% or more. The methods used are a combination of archival study, interviews and mapping. Many possible reasons for differences in the benchmark are based on how the assessment system is structured, how the valuation is carried out by the different property types and how the geographical situation affects the differences in value. These are reasons such as the assessment of so-called 'horse farms', the small local price material for farms, the reliability of the assessment data, a lack of local knowledge, the different methods used, the impact of aid tables and the different training and specialisation of valuation techniques. The location in Sweden, close to urban- or beachfront locations and the often high locations of farms also play a role in the valuations and can be a cause of differences in the value of the benchmark on the plot of land.

Návrh udržitelné městské struktury 21.století v rámci České republiky / Design of sustainable urban structure of the 21st century in the Czech Republic

The topic of the thesis is a design of an urban structure fitting into the 21st century amidst former military barracks in Brno Černá Pole. The area is square-shaped and defined by the borders of the streets Provazníkova, Mathonova, Bieblova, and Generála Píky. The area is currently divided among three owners: Ministry of Defence & Armed Forces, Resort of Justice, and National Cyber and Information Security Agency (NÚKIB). The premise of the thesis is to build a new city quarter which would provide Brno's citizens with housing solutions, job opportunities, cultural and leisure centres not only for the new but also for the current inhabitants. The design includes also several blocks which aggregate multiple functions: housing, commercial premises, and administrative buildings. Generous volume of space has been given to public spaces, most prominently a square with a new town hall for Brno-sever, culture centre and a park. The examined area is situated between two busy roads which is why designing a suitable connection of the area and the overall traffic situation within the area was essential. This thesis aims to unify the area, cut short the traffic connections and create a compact city quarter close to the centre of Brno.

Designed object is situated on a plot no. 1684/21 on the U penzionu street, in the northern area of the city part Brno-Starý Lískovec . I tis a detached, fiwe-flored blocko of flats without cellar. External and internal carier walls are made of Porotherm blocks, the ceiling is monolithic, joined, reinforced concrete board. The roof is solved as singlepallial, flat roof. Thermal insulation of the facade is made of contact thermal insulation system ETICS. Height object corresponds with the height surrounding buildings.
