Dube, Kaitano 11 1900 (has links)
M.Sc.(Geography) / This study aimed at examining the social and economic impact of rural irrigation schemes with a particular focus on the Lower Gweru Irrigation scheme. The general objective of this study was to assess if rural irrigation schemes can act as livelihood security assets in transforming rural livelihoods, reduce poverty and attain food security in light of climate change. Results are based on findings from self-administered questionnaires directed at farmers and irrigation stakeholders, and face to face interviews involving farmers and stakeholders. Using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, Microsoft excel and Health 24 web BMI calculator it was concluded that; Lower Gweru schemes, is a source of livelihood security securing food security, reduce poverty and creates rural employment. Regardless of various challenges faced by rural irrigation farmers, irrigations act as poverty and climate change buffers, providing an opportunity for communities to raise their Human Development Index and attain sustainable development. / Department of Geography

Nerovnomoměrný rozvoj světové ekonomiky / Uneven Development of the World Economy

Bílý, Boris January 2016 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with inequalities within the Word economic development. The development is conceived in the context of world systems theory for the proper evaluation of this development. The question, whether there is a convergence or divergence across countries and groups of countries is an important question of contemporary studies of globalization. While proponents of modernization theory tend to say that countries converge, adherents of world systems theory mostly think the opposite. Another contribution of this work is the evaluation of economic development not based only on the production capabilities and growth. The approach is more complex and includes the development of the society as a whole. Therefore, Human development index was used for analysis and the researched period was set to 1980-2014 due to data availability. The analysis deals not only with inequalities between the parts of the world system, but partially also with inequalities within these parts. The theoretical part consists of discussion of the existing studies of world systems and economic development and explains the necessary terms and context. Practical part is made of own regionalization of the world into three parts of the world system (core, semiperiphery and periphery) based on criteria chosen according to...

For it is clear the influence of PMIES (Small and Medium Higher Education Institution) to local and regional development, with a tendency to increase per capita income and economic of each region, where they are installed.

Throughout the development of the study, the results of the application of the tool were cornplemented with the analysis of the urban expansion pattern to verify its influence on the city's travei behaviour in order to establ?sh a correlation between expansion and urban mobility. The definition of the urban mobility scenario for Campinas allowed to determine how the guidelines establ?shed until then influenced rnobitity, as well as to enable the identification of criticai indicators that more broadly address the guidelines regarding mobllity, complementing the guidelines defined by the public administration. It was to identify, in Campinas, an evident dependence on the use of cars, as a result of the settlement pattern, which requires the car for travelinq, since there is no prioritization of collective transportation, in addition to the incentive to acquire cars. The cross-checking of the data showed the dose relationship that urban planning and transportation system planning should have in order to harmonize the relationship between settlement patterns and travei behaviour, highlighting the role of prioritization of collective medes and non-rnotorized medes, in order to democratize access to urban space.

Azevedo, Jacy de Araújo 31 July 2013 (has links)
This dissertation examines the relationship between PDE-School and the evolution of the Index of Basic Education Development (IDEB) in Maceió, in the years 2007 to 2011 The IDEB was instituted as an index that measures the quality of Brazilian education, and PDE-school constitutes a management strategic planning process, aimed at providing financial support school units, and is coordinated by the school's leadership and developed in a participatory manner by the school community, with the goal of improving the management of the school improve the quality of education it offers and ensure greater efficiency and effectiveness in the processes it develops. In this research, we sought to answer the following question: schools that are receiving PDE-School feature are raising your IDEB? Thus, the work was characterized by a qualitative approach, with the object of study of the evolution of the relationship IDEB with PDE-School. The methodology used to collect data was the analysis of bibliographic and documentary analysis. Systematization of data as a parameter had drawn up by the MEC / INEP, among them, laws, decrees, orders, manuals, reports and plans. The organization of the study was structured into four sections: the first deals with the State Reform and its impact on Brazilian Educational Policy, in 1990; the second, the issue of quality in education policy in Brazil; the third addresses the PDE-School and IDEB: concepts and implementation in the school context, and the fourth section discusses the Education Policy in Maceio elements for analysis of PDE-School and IDEB. This work shows to be relevant to the area of policy and management education, the extent of explicit contradictions own educational policy and quality of education within the school units. The results demonstrated that it can not join the rising IDEB Public Schools Maceió, in the years 2007-2011, the receipt and application of resources of the PDE-School.

Bibliography practically does not exist and academic entities seldom discuss the subject because it is still under development. References are found in lectures, newspapers and magazine articles. This is an exploratory and analytical search, approaching evidence basis and sources. The Programa Bolsa Família (PBF) is a Brazilian Family Aid Program granted under conditionality rules. It can be considered a unique tool for income distribution, working towards an effective solution for families surviving under extreme poverty. The program started by the merger of three other poverty aid programs of dubious effectiveness Scholarship Aid, Cooking Gas Aid and Food Card. The PBF benefits families surviving under poverty conditions, with R$ 70 to R$ 140 monthly of per capita income and under extreme poverty conditions, below R$ 70 monthly of per capita income. Also, the PBF establishes conditional participation rules associated to education and health prevention for children. Presently the PBF supports 13 million families that fit rules and are enrolled in the Cadastro Único (Central Control Registration Roll). That registration roll practically covers the totality of the population under poverty situation line as defined by PNAD - 2006 (National Household Survey - 2006).The PBF control methodology allows income transfer to regions left under poverty conditions in past history. The PBF formed a new consumer community, new entrepreneurs, moreover, attracted investors. In regard to education there is reduction in illiteracy. The Human Development Index (HDI) shows vegetative growth, Brazil is the 84th country ranked among the 187 nations controlled by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 2011. The dimensions that compose the index for Brazil had poor growth lately, in particular the expected years of schooling for children at school enrollment age (in Brazil, 6 years old) declined during the last decade (2000-2010). It is likely that there is a structural issue with the Brazilian education sector. There is a socio-economic growth in regions where poverty has been endemic, in particular Northeast Region. The findings also reveal migration reversal that in past were North/Northeast Regions to Southeast Region as well as fecundity rate reduction, which are remarkable advantages. Brazil entered into the demographic bonus , a situation when the economically active population exceeds the dependent population , this is also an advantage because attracts investments and is a push towards economic growth. Despite of positive improvements, they appear to be insufficient, the human development in Brazil is far from excellence, presently a HDI of 0,718, with a growth of 0,769% annually (2000-2010) it will take 35/36 years to meet the Australian HDI of 0,943%. Unless chances help us, dreams to join the winners are unlikely. The Programa Bolsa Família , however, proves to be a social front towards inequality; the participants of the plan, originally classified under poverty line were rescued.

Abstract: The study and analysis regarding the organization of the pedagogic work from schools with a high IDESP (State of São Paulo's Index of Education Development) appears to be an important way to comprehend which qualities of the education are inserted into these schools and how they are able to reach such high index values on the external evaluation. In this contest, the current research was created due to the desire of exploring the pedagogical work of an institution with results above average in the education indexes. The objective of the study is to analyze the organization of the pedagogic work in a school that belongs to the Estate of São Paulo and presented a high IDESP, identifying elements that may lead the students to perform better. Furthermore, as a secondary objective, intra and extra school factors were investigated and analyzed, which could be modifying the results. The criteria to select the school unit was the fact that it had to be ranked amongst the best Estadual schools, considering the IDESP, reaching since 2008 grades above the targets set by the index. The methodological choice was the qualitative approach, and as the studied phenomenon has been shown a complex nature, the case study was the option chosen. The data collected by surveys and documental study, application of questionnaires containing open and closed questions, semi structured interviews and observation were processed by the content analysis, and encompassed analytical dimensions: educational evaluation, school management, school contents and social and familiar factors. The extra and intra school factors found at the chosen school that could be influencing the grades of the external evaluation are: high socioeconomic levels of the school clientele; strict rules and discipline regarding the management of the school; practice for the tests; traditional evaluation methods, and so on. / Mestrado / Ensino e Práticas Culturais / Mestra em Educação

Index environmentální demokracie podle Aarhuské úmluvy: východiska, rámec a indikátory / Environmental Democracy Index based on the Aarhus Convention: foundation, framework and indicators

Macurová, Miriam January 2021 (has links)
The focus of this master thesis is the concept of environmental democracy at the level of the Aarhus convention. Environmental democracy rights which are the rights to access to information, public participation in decision-making and access to justice in environmental matters were mentioned for the first time at the global level in Principle 10 of the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development in 1992. With this Principle the main role of public participation in decision-making in environmental matters was acknowledged and it had a significant impact on fulfillment of sustainable development goals. To these days the most important elaboration of Principle 10 in international law is Aarhus Convention signed within the framework of United Nations Economic Commission for Europe in 1998. Main research question of this thesis is if it is possible to measure environmental democracy on the level of the region of UNECE, so the implementation of the Aarhus Convention provisions by its member states. Therefore, the research problem is the creation of the theoretical framework and the methodological procedure for building of composite indicator which will measure environmental democracy rights at the level of Aarhus convention. That will be demonstrated on the first pillar of the Convention. This thesis...

The effects of international trade on human development: a comparative analysis of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC)

Angeles, Joseph Gerard Bacani 01 1900 (has links)
This study analysed the effects of international trade on human development in two developing regions, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC). The choice of comparing SADC and ASEAN is motivated by the many similarities between both regions half a century ago, and the stark divergence of their respective development pathways which has led to different development outcomes half a century later. Annual data from 2000 to 2018 and dynamic panel data econometric techniques were used in this study, controlling for individual country characteristics, endogeneity, serial correlation, heterocedasticity and interdependencies between the countries in each region. Two estimations were done in this study; sample wide estimations and country specific estimations. In the sample wide estimations the Generalised Method of Moments of Arellano and Bover (1995) with forward orthogonal deviations, and Feasible Generalised Least Squares of Parks (1967) and Kmenta (1986) were used, whilst Swamy’s Random Coefficients were used in the country specific estimations. Trade is measured using the current account balance as a percentage of GDP, whilst human development is captured by the United Nations’ Human Development Index (HDI). In the sample wide estimations, the study found that trade openness enhances human development for both SADC and ASEAN as measured by the Human Development Index (HDI). Gross fixed capital formation, economic growth and technological progress all had positive effects on human development in both regions. Unemployment had a counter intuitive positive effect on human development. This raises issues on the nature and quality of employment, including concerns on cheap production labour and vulnerable employment. The ASEAN region had a higher mean level of economic growth, a trade surplus and higher level of technological progress than SADC. This is consistent with the manufacturing focus of ASEAN, compared to the primary commodity exporting nature of SADC which had a trade deficit. However, in each region there were country specific differences in terms of what drives human development. The country specific disparities in drivers of human development have implications for the regional trade and development nexus. In particular, these disparities must be considered in the conceptualization and implementation of the SADC Industrialisation and Strategy Roadmap, and the most recent African Continental Free Trade Area. The policy implication is that such regional trade agreements should accommodate countries’ specific heterogeneity as the policy pathways will differ between countries. / Business Management / D.
