Distributed directory services are an evolving paradigm in the distributed computing arena. They are a shift from the centralized directory that causes delay and does not scale well to widespread peer-to-peer networks. With networking becoming more pervasive, there is a need to integrate the heterogeneity of device, data and network with the applications that are built on them. SyD or System on Mobile Devices is a middleware that is being used to implement such a distributed directory service. To provide a persistent global view of data, we serialize and synchronize the distributed directories. The SyD APIs provide a high-level environment to rapidly develop collaborative applications for such networks in a systematic manner. An intervehicle communication application that notifies the driver of a vehicle of the available parking spots in the vicinity, allows us to see the practical working and benefits of the distributed directory paradigm.

The implementation of multiple processors on a single chip has been made possible with advancements in process technology. The benefits of having multiple cores on a single chip bring with it a new set of constraints for maintaining fast and consistent memory accesses. Cache coherence protocols are needed to maintain the consistency of shared memory on individual caches. Current cache coherency protocols are either snoop based, which is not scalable but provides fast access for small number of cores, or directory based, which involves a directory that acts as the ordering point providing scalability with relatively slower access. Our focus is on improving the memory access time of the scalable directory protocol. We have observed that most memory requests follow a pattern where in one of the processors, which we will dub the Producer, repeatedly writes to a particular memory location. A subset of the remaining cores, which we will dub the Consumers, repeatedly read the data from that same memory location. In our implementation we utilize this relationship to provide direct cache to cache transfers and minimize the access time by avoiding the indirection through the directory. We move the directory temporarily to the Producer node so that the consumer can directly request the producer for the cache line. Our technique improves the memory access time by 13 percent and reduces network traffic by 30 percent over standard directory coherence protocol with very little area overhead.

Detta kan visa sig bland annat genom att problem kan uppstå och att medarbetarna inte kan göra sitt arbete på ett effektivt sätt.</p><p>Detta projekt har som mål att skapa riktlinjer för hur val av en katalogtjänst bör gå till. Riktlinjerna är tänkta att stödja valet från det att katalogtjänster identifierats som möjlig lösning till att några produkter som uppfyller verksamhetens grundläggande behov tagits fram. Som utgångspunkt för valet används det tjänstestöd som erbjuds av katalogtjänster. I både kravframställning och produktspecificering används tjänstestöd som utgångspunkt. Detta ger fördelen att produktutvärderingen, dvs. jämförelse mellan kravspecifikation och produktspecifikationer, kan ske utan på ett naturligt sätt och utan misstolkningar.</p>

One thing that everyone seems to be worried about when it comes to his or her computer is security. If your computer is not secure then private information could be stolen. Many people now use passwords to protect themselves though they are discovering that using multi-factor authentication is much more secure. It allows you to use multiple different proofs of who you are. Biometrics is one of the ways to prove identity. Using it, you could log into a system with just a fingerprint, which is something that is very difficult to steal. We present a suite of software tools that allows you to log into a network using multi-factor authentication. This thesis describes our design of a multi-factor authentication solution, the problems we encountered realizing this design, and Microsoft's own biometric system.

The refugee population within the United States is very dynamic, creating new challenges for county boards of health every day. To assist refugee groups in their transition to life in America, their needs must be thoroughly understood. County officials must also recognize their own limitations and be able to overcome them. Appropriate coordination with community resources relieves boards of health of some of the burden. However, county officials must also ensure that services provided in their domain are exceptional. This project aims to aid in this process for the DeKalb County Board of Health (DCBOH) and incoming refugees. A physician directory was created to improve the coordination between the DCBOH and community resources. In addition, a health manual geared towards informing refugees was updated and prepared for distribution.

Wird der ökologische oder chemische Zustand der Gewässer nach EG-Wasserrahmenrichtlinie bewertet, können für die Metalle geogene Hintergrundwerte berücksichtigt werden. Sächsische Gewässer weisen regional unterschiedliche Schwermetall- und Arsengehalte auf. Ausschlaggebend dafür sind die natürlichen geogenen Gehalte. Die Anwendung deutschlandweiter Vorgaben ist daher nicht möglich. Für das Erzgebirge und das Vogtland wurden in den Teileinzugsgebieten der Freiberger und Zwickauer Mulde, der Bobritzsch und des Johanngeorgenstädter Schwarzwassers die natürlichen Hintergrundwerte erhoben. Das Untersuchungsgebiet umfasst ein Drittel der Landesfläche Sachsens. Für eine breite Palette von Metallen wurden sowohl im Schwebstoff als auch für die gesamte und gelöste wässrige Phase nach einer neuen Methodik Hintergrundkonzentrationen abgeleitet.
