Content and Focus of Dissertations in the College of Education at North Texas State University from 1975 through 1986Sharmsar, Behrouz 08 1900 (has links)
The problem of this study was to determine the degree and level of research activity in the College of Education at North Texas State University through an examination of the doctoral dissertations produced by its graduates.
The study had three basic purposes. One purpose was to analyze the dissertations in terms of types of study, focus of each study, subject headings of each study, design characteristics, statistical treatment of data, general results of experimental studies and data collection techniques. The second purpose was to synthesize the data of the present study with that obtained by Novak in her study, in order to provide an overall description of the characteristics of dissertation research in the College of Education from 1953 through 1986. The third purpose was to examine the research activity taking place in the College of Education in terms of the quality of dissertations produced by its graduates.
Seven hundred and ninety-five dissertations were the sources of data for this study. The format developed and validated by Novak in her study of dissertation research from 1953 through 1974 was used in the analysis of the dissertations completed from 1975 through 1986.
Based on the findings of this study, the following conclusions were drawn.
The format developed by Novak in 1975 can be used to analyze dissertations completed during the years from 1975 through 1986.
The degree and level of research activity in the College of Education can be assessed through an analysis of the dissertations produced by its graduates.
Doctoral candidates are using statistical methods and computers to analyze and manipulate data more often.
There is an indication that doctoral candidates are beginning to use a wider variety of data-gathering techniques.
Four recommendations are drawn from the study.

光復後臺灣省級機關(構)檔案之博碩士論文引用分析研究 / The Citation Analysis of Doctoral Dissertations and Master's These on Archives of Taiwan Provincial Institutions:After the Retrocession黃偉訓, Huang, Wei Hsun Unknown Date (has links)

The study analyzes the citations of the archives of Taiwan provincial level institutions in post Taiwan Retrocession from the National Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations in Taiwan using Bibliometrics. The purposes of the study are divided into the following two: 1. analyze the distribution of the archives of Taiwan provincial level institution Taiwan Historica in post Taiwan Retrocession, cited by Taiwan’s theses and dissertations with different degree, schools and departments, year of publication, and period of research content through the different sources of collection; 2. analyze the distribution of the archives of Taiwan provincial level institutions Taiwan Historica in post Taiwan Retrocession, cited by Taiwan’s theses and dissertations with different degree, schools and departments, year of publication, and period of research content through the various general archives.
The study reaches the following six points of conclusions: 1. the majority of the archives of Taiwan provincial level institution Taiwan Historica in post Taiwan Retrocession by cited theses and dissertations are books (49.4%) and books and digital archives (20.5%);2. the majority of theses and dissertations (52.3%) cite from the preparation of the archives of Taiwan Historica;3. the majority of schools citing the archives of Taiwan provincial level institution Taiwan Historica in post Taiwan Retrocession include National Taiwan Normal University (15.4%), National Cheng Chi University (10.3%), National Taiwan University (10.3%), and National Central University (10.3%), and National University of Tainan (9.6%);4. between 2006 and 2011, about 74.4% of Taiwan’s thesis and dissertations published with citation of the archives of Taiwan provincial level institution Taiwan Historica accounts for 74.4% while the citation for the archives of Taiwan provincial level institution Taiwan Historica shows an upward increasing trend; 5. for the period of research content in theses and dissertations, about 56.2% of them cited the archives of Taiwan provincial level institution Taiwan Historica in post Taiwan Retrocession.;6. the majority of our theses and dissertations come from history institutes, accounting for 51.9% with most citations of the archives of Taiwan provincial level institution Taiwan Historica in post Taiwan Retrocession.
The study makes the following five suggestions: 1. expand archives citation in these and dissertations from different departments and schools in Taiwan; 2. increase the theses and dissertation topics with citations of the archives of Taiwan provincial level institution Taiwan Historica; 3. increase collection that promotes the archives of Taiwan provincial level institution Taiwan Historica in post Taiwan Retrocession; 4. advocate digital archival query and citations; 5. strengthen the breadth of digital collection archives.

Den statsvetenskapliga diskursen : En innehållsanalys av statsvetenskapliga doktorsavhandlingar 2000-2013 / The Discourse of Political Science : A Content Analysis of Doctoral Dissertations in Political Science 2000-2013Nilsson, Stefan January 2014 (has links)
A possible "discursive turn" is believed to have been observed within Swedish political science in later years. The purpose of this study is to examine whether or not such a turn has actually taken place, in order to further determine if a resulting theoretical homogeneity poses a risk to the ability of Swedish political science to identify and respond to its full width of possible research problems, and to determine its perspectives on both these problems and the results that are later communicated to the general society. To do so, the study poses the following primary research question: "Has a discursive turn occurred within Swedish political science?" This question is then broken down into two specified research questions. "Has discourse analysis become a more common approach for doctoral dissertations in political science during the period of 2000-2013?" "Have ideas corresponding with discourse theory become more common within doctoral dissertations in political science that are not pure discourse analyses during the period of 2000-2013?" These questions are then answered by examining all known 406 doctoral dissertations in political science published in Sweden during the 21st century up until (and including) the year of 2013, using two forms of content analysis, one manual and one computer-assisted. The study finds no clear evidence of a discursive turn in Swedish political science since the turn of the century. The results demonstrate, however, that while ideas corresponding with discourse theory do not appear to have become unambiguously more common in recent times, they do appear in some form in a majority of the examined dissertations, albeit most often on the margin. The study finds no significant indications of a theoretical homogenisation that might impede upon the ability of political science to identify and respond to its full width of research problems. Discourse analysis appears to have a stable presence within Swedish political science, but does not appear to risk contributing to a homogenous research climate that might damage the plurality of research. Instead, it might be seen as a contribution to this plurality.
