O processo de industrialização paulista: os casos de Botucatu, Avaré e Ourinhos / The process of industrialization in São Paulo state: the cases of Botucatu, Avaré and Ourinhos

Silva, Washington Soares 16 December 2015 (has links)
This research intends to analyze the industrial process in the municipalities of Botucatu, Avaré and Ourinhos, all of them parts of the São Paulo state. To achieve this goal it will be used as theoretical references the conceptions from the geographers such as Milton Santos (2004 [1977]) on the category of socio-spatial formation and analysis, André Cholley (1964) geographic combinations, since both articulate dialectically nature and society. On the Brazilian economy, specifically industrialization, we adopt, without disregarding other interpretations, the conceptions of Ignacio Rangel (2005 [1957, 1985]) that basically addresses the power of dialectic through half revolutions, or the dualities of the Brazilian economy; pacts internal and external power. According to this view, Brazil being a peripheral social formation, that reacts dynamically to the impulses coming from the system center (Kondratiev cycles) always combining different production methods throughout their historical development stages. Regarding the process of industrialization in São Paulo state, the addressed theoretical perspective emphasizes the role of small commodity production in the socio-economic dynamics (internal process of accumulation, industrialization via immigrants and not via the Paulista oligarchy). The reasons behind this choice of subject are due the fact that has been given little emphasis in the capacity of initiative / entrepreneurial innovation, which exist in different parts of the country that and needs to develop a favorable economic policy. In short, we assume that the Brazilian entrepreneurship is huge, however, lacks an economic policy that could continue to give support to these enterprises. In fact, certain decisions taken in the governmental level, such as the entitled \"Instruction 70\" (Getulio Vargas) and \"Instruction 113\" (Juscelino Kubitschek) were fundamental for economic growth, since import substitution policies were also protectionist and developmental policies. That is, without them, as Rangel would affirm, the domestic industry would have a contingency to born in the international crisis and to disappear in the stages of economic recovery. Therefore, it seeks to contribute to the study of geography and resume an old theme, which are the studies about industrial activities, intending to understanding the São Paulo state industrialization process.

Algebraic approach to modal extensions of Łukasiewicz logics / Approche algébrique d'extensions modales des logiques de Łukasiewicz

Teheux, Bruno 16 February 2009 (has links)
This dissertation is focused on an algebraic approach of some many-valued generalizations of modal logics. The starting point is the definition of the [0,1]-valued and the Ł_n-valued Kripke models, where [0,1] denotes the well known MV-algebra and Ł_n its finite subalgebra {0, 1/n, ... , (n-1)/n,1} for any positive integer n. Two types of structures are used to define validity of formulas: the class of L-frames and the class of Ł_n-valued L-frames. The latter structures are L-frames in which we specify in each world u the set Ł_m (where m is a divisor of n) of the possible truth values of the formulas in u. These two classes of structures define two distinct notions of validity. We use these notions to study the problem of definability of classes of structures with modal formulas. We obtain for these two classes an equivalent of the Goldblatt-Thomason theorem. We are able to consider completeness problems with respect to these relational semantics thanks to the connections between relational and algebraic semantics. Our strongest results are about Ł_n-valued logics. We are indeed able to apply and develop algebraic tools (namely, canonical and strong canonical extensions) that allow to generate complete Ł_n-valued logics.

Strong coupling in 2+1 dimensions from dualities, holography, and large N

Niro, Pierluigi 13 July 2021 (has links) (PDF)
The goal of the original research presented in this thesis is to study the strong coupling regime of Quantum Field Theories (QFTs) with different methods, making concrete predictions about the phase structure and the dynamics of these theories, and on their observables. The focus is on (gauge) field theories in three spacetime dimensions, which are an interesting laboratory to understand the properties of strong coupling in setups that are usually simpler than in the more familiar case of gauge theories in four dimensions. Importantly, topological effects play a relevant role in three dimensions, thanks to the presence of the so-called Chern-Simons term. The thesis contains a short introduction to QFTs in 3d, principles and applications of infrared dualities, large N techniques, and holography. Indeed, the web of infrared dualities, the large N expansion, and the holographic correspondence between QFT and gravity are the main tools which we use to investigate the strongly coupled regimes of 3d QFTs.Then, the original material is presented. In a first line of research, we focus on the study of the phase diagram of a 3d gauge theory making use of conjectured infrared dualities, extending such dualities to the case where more than one mass parameter can be dialed. In a second line of research, we study a class of 3d gauge theories by engineering their gravity dual in a string theory setup. We prove the existence of multiple phase transitions between phases characterized by both massless particles and topological sectors. In a third line of research, we use holography as a tool to explore the interplay between the physics of 4d QCD and 3d gauge theories. In particular, we analyze the properties of 3d domain walls, which appear as soliton-like solutions of 4d QCD in specific parametric regimes. Finally, we propose a boundary construction of 3d large N vector models, which appear as critical points of theories obtained by coupling degrees of freedom localized on a 3d boundary to a 4d bulk theory. This construction allows to prove new dualities and uncovers a new computational tool for 3d vector models.

Dupuis, Éric 08 1900 (has links)
In strongly correlated systems, gauge fields can emerge as collective excitations coupled to fractionalized quasiparticles. In particular, certain frustrated two-dimensional quantum magnets are described by a Dirac spin liquid which has a U(1) gauge symmetry. The infrared description is given by a conformal field theory, namely quantum electrodynamics in 2+1 dimensions with 2N flavours of massless fermions. In typical magnets, N=2 or 4. The compact aspect of the gauge field also implies the existence of topological excitations corresponding to instantons, which are created by monopole operators in this context. This thesis focuses on quantum phase transitions out of a Dirac spin liquid and the properties of monopoles at the corresponding critical points. These transitions are driven by activating various types of Gross-Neveu interactions. In all the cases studied, the scaling dimension of monopoles are obtained using the state-operator correspondence and a 1/N expansion. The confinement-deconfinement transition to an antiferromagnetic order produced by a monopole condensate is first studied. A degeneracy lifting is observed at the critical point, as certain monopoles have their scaling dimension reduced in comparison with the value in the Dirac spin liquid. This hierarchy is charactized quantitatively by comparing monopole scaling dimensions in distinct magnetic spin sector at leading-order in 1/N, and qualitatively by an analysis in representation theory. Critical exponents of various other operators are obtained in the non-compact model. Transitions to two topological spin liquids, namely a chiral spin liquid and a Z2 spin liquid, are also considered. Anomalous dimensions of monopoles are obtained at sub-leading order in 1/N. These results allow the verification of a conjectured duality with a bosonic model and the value of a universal coefficient in U(1) gauge theories.

T-Duality Invariant Higher-Derivative Corrections for Cosmology and D = 2 Black Holes

Codina, Tomas 14 February 2024 (has links)
In this thesis we study duality-invariant higher-derivative (alpha') corrections to string low energy effective theories. We restrict to the universal massless sector, consisting of the graviton, B-field and dilaton, and specialize to backgrounds with d abelian isometries, which enjoy O(d, d)-invariance and contain scenarios such as cosmology and black holes as particular cases. The O(d, d)-symmetry is expected to be preserved to arbitrary orders in derivatives, a fact that motivated Hohm and Zwiebach to arrive at the cosmological classification. Such construction parameterizes a large class of purely-time dependent duality-invariant theories to all orders in derivatives in terms of a countable infinite number of coefficients. String theories represent single points in this theory space, determined by specific configurations of these coefficients. We compute the first coefficients by following two methods: compactifications and beta-function computations from a worldsheet action already in cosmological backgrounds. We then study the Hohm, Siegel, and Zwiebach (HSZ) theory in cosmological backgrounds, which encodes the massless string modes plus novel massive fields. We integrate out the latter to arrive at an effective theory for the massless fields and read the corresponding coefficients. We then keep the massive fields, find a two-derivative reformulation of the theory, determine alpha'-exact Friedmann equations and explore the tensionless limit. Coming back to generic duality-invariant theories, we revisit the classification for FRW backgrounds and find that all corrections are trivial. We extend the classification to two-dimensional backgrounds with time-like isometry, a space that admits black-hole solutions. We prove that the dual of a solution with a regular horizon must have a curvature singularity, and find alpha'-deformed black holes with and without singularities. The latter correspond to regular cosmologies.

We discuss various aspects of D-branes in string theory and holography in string theory and loop quantum gravity. One way to study D-branes is from a microscopic perspective, using conformal field theory techniques. For example, we investigate the question of how D-branes can be introduced into orbifolded theories. Another way to study D-branes is from a space-time perspective. An example is provided by unstable D-branes, where we compute an effective action describing the decay of a bosonic D-brane. The holographic principle is a proposed duality which suggests that a theory in any region has a dual description on the boundary. We explore two examples: (1) The area law for the entropy of a black hole in the framework of loop quantum gravity, related to particular regularizations of the area operator. (2) The AdS/CFT correspondence proposal, where we investigate a string pulsating on AdS using spin chains.
