Existence of Solutions for Boundary Value Problems with Nonlinear Delay

Luo, Yu-chen 05 July 2007 (has links)
In this thesis, we consider the following delay boundary value problem egin{eqnarray*}(BVP)left{begin{array}{l}y'(t)+q(t)f(t,y(sigma(t)))=0, tin(0,1)/{ au}, y(t)=xi(t), tin[- au_{0},0], y(1)=0,end{array} right. end{eqnarray*}, where the functions f and q satisfy certain conditions; $sigma(t)leq t$ is a nonlinear real valued continuous function. We use two different methods to establish some existence criteria for the solution of problem (BVP). We generalize the delay term to a nonlinear function and obtain more general and supplementary results for the known ones about linear delay term due to Agarwal and O¡¦Regan [1] and Jiang and Xu [5].

An Attempt To Make The Definitions Of Different Concepts Of Existence And Constructing A Foundation For An Axiomatic System Of Ontology

Cagatay, Hasan 01 June 2007 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis aims to make an analysis of the concepts of &amp / #8216 / existence&amp / #8217 / . It also constructs four new definitions based on the concept of &amp / #8216 / effect&amp / #8217 / for different concepts of beings. By reasoning based on these definitions and some pre-suppositions, a foundation for an axiomatic system of ontology is tried to construct.

The Use Of Memory In Harold Pinter&#039 / s Landscape, Silence, Night, Old Times, And No Man&#039 / s Land.

Ayken, Edibe Serra 01 June 2007 (has links) (PDF)
Harold Pinter&rsquo / s concern with memory and the verification of the past have been ever-present since his early writings. Although these themes have been explored by Pinter in his early works, they have become dominant in his interim plays, which have been named by critics as his memory plays. In these plays, the characters evoke the past to such an extent that the past virtually co-exists with and influences the present. The characters&rsquo / recollections of the past may be real, or they may be partially or even completely altered during the process of remembering. However, since verification of the past is impossible, whether these memories are real or confabulated remains unknown. The motives underlying these characters&rsquo / utilization of memories deserves investigation. This paper ventures to examine the reasons why the characters in the memory plays exploit recollections of the past. It focuses on the characters&rsquo / use of memory with the aim of asserting and perpetuating identity and existence, of exerting dominance over others, and of coping with their dissatisfaction with the present. To this end, the characters in Pinter&rsquo / s Landscape, Silence, Night, Old Times, and No Man&rsquo / s Land will be studied respectively.

Users Attitudes Towards Products: Effects Of Ownership And Software Existance

Isik, Erol 01 September 2007 (has links) (PDF)
Technological developments cause products to include more software which become a part of products and a determiner of product characteristics. Today&amp / #8217 / s way of life surrounded by technological developments caused users to engage in inevitable interaction with products. By means of that interaction, users&amp / #8217 / way of meeting their needs and attitudes towards products shaped in both functional and emotional dimensions. Although users&amp / #8217 / attitudes seem to be governing this process, the nature and the characteristics of the products affected the manner of this interaction. Consequently, the existence of the software as a product characteristic would affect the users&amp / #8217 / attitude towards products. This thesis focuses on the effects of the software existence on users&amp / #8217 / attitudes. The empirical study conducted in the thesis explored the effects of different levels of software existence in products. This empirical study analyzes three product groups and the results of that analysis indicated that the existence of software affects users&amp / #8217 / perceptions about products in a way that it causes the bond between the user and the owned product to get weaker in hedonic aspects.

A Discussion On How To Formulate The Question Of Contingency In Leibniz&#039 / s System: A Logical Approach

Besler, Arman 01 June 2008 (has links) (PDF)
The main objective of this study is to shed light on some difficulties involved in the formulation of the problem of contingency in Leibniz&rsquo / s philosophical system. Leibniz&rsquo / s mature philosophy is characterized by the solutions he proposes for this problem, and the ontological ideas underlying or assisting them. &lsquo / The problem of contingency&rsquo / refers to the tension between his conceptual containment theory of truth and his claim that true existential propositions &ndash / that is, propositions which concern actual individuals &ndash / are all contingent. Though Leibniz does not seem to have one definite theory of contingency, two general lines of thought can nevertheless be discerned from his fragments on propositions and propositional truth. The first one is the infinite analysis theory, which is regarded in general as Leibniz&rsquo / s real theory of contingency, and the other is a theory of necessity, providing a division between absolute and hypothetical modalities. This thesis is not a study on the question whether Leibniz did really manage to solve the problem, but rather an attempt to trace the problem to its logical and ontological origins, and redefine it under a relatively simple form. It is first shown that Leibniz&rsquo / s theory of propositions relies heavily on his ontological conception of modalities, which covers the idea of a division between pure possibility and actuality / and then this idea is shown to be reflected on the logical level as a division between essential and existential truths. Finally it is argued that the two lines of thought and some peculiar characteristics of Leibniz&rsquo / s conception of modalities bring us to the conclusion that his real problem is the (deliberate) inability of his propositional calculus to express the difference between truths of reason (essential truths) and truths of fact (existential truths) as a logical structural one.

A Study Of Existentialproblems Faced By Kafkaesque And Pinteresque Characters

Yapar, Seda 01 April 2010 (has links) (PDF)
The aim of this thesis is to discuss the similarities between Kafka&rsquo / s The Trial, &ldquo / The Metamorphosis&rdquo / and &ldquo / The Judgement&rdquo / , and Pinter&rsquo / s plays namely, The Birthday Party, Old Times, Ashes to Ashes and The Dumb Waiter, in terms of their characters&rsquo / problems concerning their existence and their manners of dealing with these issues. The thesis argues that, as a consequence of being thrown into a meaningless world, characters created by Kafka and Pinter have to deal with existential problems like being alienated, having a limited freedom due to their facticity, and being subject to menace, the source of which is beyond their knowledge. It is also discussed that the characters of these writers apply similar methods / such as dominating the others and resorting to inauthentic existence, concerning their manner of dealing with the problems they face. In other words, this study intends to highlight the fact that both Kafka and Pinter reflect the situation of man, looking for a meaningful, secure existence in an absurd world, filled with disillusionment, loss of faith and failure of communication. Das Leben im Lexikon

Schneider, Ulrich Johannes 15 June 2015 (has links) (PDF)

Topological Degree and Variational Inequality Theories for Pseudomonotone Perturbations of Maximal Monotone Operators

Asfaw, Teffera Mekonnen 01 January 2013 (has links)
Let X be a real reflexive locally uniformly convex Banach space with locally uniformly convex dual space X* . Let G be a bounded open subset of X. Let T:X⊃ D(T)⇒ 2X* be maximal monotone and S: X ⇒ 2X* be bounded pseudomonotone and such that 0 notin cl((T+S)(D(T)∩partG)). Chapter 1 gives general introduction and mathematical prerequisites. In Chapter 2 we develop a homotopy invariance and uniqueness results for the degree theory constructed by Zhang and Chen for multivalued (S+) perturbations of maximal monotone operators. Chapter 3 is devoted to the construction of a new topological degree theory for the sum T+S with the degree mapping d(T+S,G,0) defined by d(T+S,G,0)=limepsilondarr 0+ dS+(T+S+ J,G,0), where dS+ is the degree for bounded (S+)-perturbations of maximal monotone operators. The uniqueness and homotopy invariance result of this degree mapping are also included herein. As applications of the theory, we give associated mapping theorems as well as degree theoretic proofs of known results by Figueiredo, Kenmochi and Le. In chapter 4, we consider T:X D(T)⇒ 2X* to be maximal monotone and S:D(S)=K⇒ 2X* at least pseudomonotone, where K is a nonempty, closed and convex subset of X with 0isinKordm. Let Phi:X⇒ ( infin, infin] be a proper, convex and lower-semicontinuous function. Let f* isin X* be fixed. New results are given concerning the solvability of perturbed variational inequalities for operators of the type T+S associated with the function f. The associated range results for nonlinear operators are also given, as well as extensions and/or improvements of known results by Kenmochi, Le, Browder, Browder and Hess, Figueiredo, Zhou, and others.

Fullständighetsprincipen i hållbarhetsredovisningen : En fördjupning samt en tillämpning

Zimic, Aldin, Wrigsell, Josefine January 2013 (has links)
In recent decades, demands has emerged that the companies shall take a greater social responsibility for the impact that they have on their environment and that this impact shall be reported, which is known as Sustainability Reporting. The Sustainability Report is based on a number of general principles that ensure the content and the quality of the Sustainability Report. One of these principles is the principle of completeness. In the research, this principle seems to have been interpreted in terms of number of reported aspects and indicators, which can be a limited view where only the existence of the aspects and indicators is observed. By including the degree of the reporting in terms of full, partial and no reporting as well as a comparison between the real and the alleged reporting, our intention is to extend the principle of completeness and to develop a tool that we also apply through an empirical survey in a particular area. This creates not only a deeper understanding of the principle of completeness, but also an understanding of how the completeness in reporting in the area of human rights seems to be in large Swedish companies. In this paper, a quantitative content analysis has been used. This was done either on the corporate sustainability report or on the annual report in the case the sustainability report was included there. The conclusion that can be drawn is that there are deficiencies in the completeness both in terms of the existence of aspects and indicators, but also in the degree of the reporting. Additionally, the completeness also deficiencies in the comparison between the real and the alleged reporting.
