The psychomotor practice promotes and enhances the individual's harmonious adaptation to the environment and their relationships with others with space and time, essential elements for success in school learning. This study investigated the influence of an educational program on psychomotor applied to teachers in their knowledge about the subject and the motor performance of their students in an experimental study, diagnosis of a longitudinal, with a qualitative and quantitative approach. Was held on 5 Public Schools of the city of Maceió, AL, divided into two groups: control (CG) and experimental (GE). At GE, the teachers participated in an educational program on psychomotor, organized from data obtained in semi - structured interview that explored concepts and practices on the subject. 27 teachers participated in the survey, 14 CG and 13 GE and 140 students from 1st and 2nd year of primary school (70 in each group). All students were assessed with the Scale of Motor Development of Rosa Neto (2002), with a delay of one year and five months in the average age of general motor for the chronological ages of 4 and 6 elements psychomotor (fine motor, scheme bodily, spatial and temporal organization). 49% of students had a profile of normal psychomotor ranging down to the very bottom. The teachers' knowledge of psychomotor before the interv iews were very elementary, reaching in some cases of ignorance, demonstrating the need for specific guidelines for the early diagnosis of the weaknesses of their students and organizing their daily schedules. After participating in the educational program, reports of lack disappeared, occurring better understanding of the subject. This reflected positively in the improvement of psychomotor skills of GE, with motor age usually exceeding 1 month in chronological age and improves psychomotor profile in virtual ly all elements. The psychomotor impaired, although proven as a cause of delay in learning, has not been fully disseminated among elementary school teachers. The use of health education in schools on the subject shows up as a form of early detection of pos sible delays in children through the guidance of appropriate activities for teachers in order to optimize the motor and cognitive development of students. / TEDE / BV UNIFESP: Teses e dissertações

Technology integration : tracing in-service primary teachers' technological, pedagogical and content knowledge development

De Silva, Chamelle Rene January 2015 (has links)
Thesis (DEd (Education))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2015. / The past decade has witnessed the proliferation and use of computer technologies or ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies) in varying levels in the traditional classroom within the South African context. The policy on e-Education (DoE, 2004) refers to the significance of e-Education and expects schools to be developed into e-Schools, consisting of a community of both teachers and learners. This policy also foregrounds how new models of learning are radically changing and challenging current conceptions of learning. As schools acquire technological infrastructure, teachers are expected to become technically skilled in order to deliver the curriculum utilising technology as a tool. Practising primary school teachers are generalists who subscribe to a more holistic approach of teaching. Specialised knowledge influences the in-service primary teacher's perceptions with regard to technology in the classroom. Technology integration, therefore, represents particular challenges for teachers as they search to construct a coherent, technological content base to inform their teaching. Learners with diverse ranges of learning abilities and needs are also present in classrooms, which may further compound the challenges teachers face within the confines of a rigid curriculum and emergent technologies. This study follows and documents the trajectory of a purposive sample of ten practising primary school teachers who had no specialised training in technology. A qualitative ethnographic research design, underpinned by an interpretive paradigm is employed. This research is premised on the argument that teachers can acquire the technical skill, underscored with the relevant pedagogical aims, needed for the seamless integration of emerging technologies required to enhance teaching and learning. "Without skilled pedagogical application of educational technology, technology in and of itself cannot provide innovative school practice and educational change" (Levin & Wadmany, 2006:158).

The influence of learning support on foundation phase learners’ self-esteem

Kriel, Carike January 2017 (has links)
Thesis (MEd (Inclusive Education))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2017. / A need for learning support in mainstream schools has come to the fore with the implementation of the inclusive education policy in South Africa. Learners who experience barriers to learning are withdrawn from the mainstream class in small groups in order to receive extra support in their home language and mathematics. The purpose of this mixed-method convergent study was to determine the influence of withdrawal from the mainstream classroom, for learning support, on the foundation phase learners’ self-esteem. The phenomena were studied from the perspective of mainstream and learning support teachers as well as the learners. In the quantitative phase, surveys consisting of open and closed questions were distributed to seventy mainstream and seven learning support teachers. The qualitative phase used Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) to analyse data gleaned from the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale which had been adapted into an interview schedule in order to determine the perceptions of self-esteem, of five foundation phase learners, who were withdrawn from the mainstream classroom for learning support. This study found that learning support did not seem to have a negative influence on the global self-esteem of the learner participants in this study. It was found that the school culture and mainstream teachers’ attitudes had a negative influence on learners’ self-esteem. Other variables that had a negative influence on self-esteem were family relationships and the learners’ social competence and acceptance, and non-academic competencies were shown to have a greater effect on self-esteem. Overall, both the teachers and learners indicated that they perceived that LS had a positive influence on learners’ self-esteem.

Viecheneski, Juliana Pinto 08 February 2013 (has links)
The objective of this study is to propose a didactic sequence that contributes to the initiation of scientific literacy of students in the literacy process of language. We started from the assumption that the epistemological orientations of focus STS (Science, Technology and Society), contribute to the scientific literacy of students in the early years, but also provide activities for reading and writing larger context and meaning. From this perspective, was applied didactic sequence, based on the theme "human food". We opted for a qualitative methodological approach, interpretative, with the children of 1st year 1st Cycle of Basic Education in a public school in Ponta Grossa - PR. Data were collected through application of diagnostic testing, observation, audio recordings, photographs, written records, illustrations performed by children and post test. The results indicate that the activities of the modules of the didactic sequence, contributed to the progressive advancement of knowledge of the students, both in relation to the issues underlying the teaching of science and the initiation of scientific literacy, as compared to the literacy process of mother tongue demonstrating that it is possible, from the initial stage of schooling, effective interdisciplinary work and contextualized, centered on citizenship training. Remember that the implementation of this proposal requires collective effort and commitment inherent in the implementation of pedagogical action - research practice, reflection and continuing education. With the purpose of sharing teaching knowledge with other professionals in the field, as a final product of this work, we designed a notebook containing the activities, as well as reflections and guidelines for the initiation of students to the process of scientific literacy.

Rabe, Marie 20 February 2014 (has links)
D.Ed. / The purpose of this study was to devise a reading strategy programme to support ex aid class pupils presently placed in standard four who are beginning to manifest reading problems. To attain this goal an in-depth study of learning in general was undertaken. The ultimate goal of emediation is to lead the child to self-regulated learning. The literature study revealed that learning-disabled pupils also experience cognitive, affective and social problems which, in turn, influence their learning activities. These problems inhibit their ability to become self regulated learners. Reading is a complex activity and reading problems are the most common learning problem manifested by learning-disabled pupils. The inability to read-to-learn is the cause of their poor academic progress. The study focused on the presentation of reading strategies, as part of learning strategies, to improve reading comprehension. The researcher made use of a metacognitive approach and by so doing, attempted to lead the pupils to problem solving reading behaviour. A needs-analysis of ex aid class pupils with reading problems in Johannesburg confirmed this negative tendency. The pupils' language background, general knowledge and reading ability varied. The researcher thus decided to undertake a qualitative research project in the form of a case study. This decision was supported by the literature study concerning remediation of learning-disabled pupils. For the above reasons it was decided to observe the reading behaviour of the pupils as well as the development of the intensive programme in a small group situation. By so doing, the data would clearly reveal the reading behaviour as well as the development of the programme.

An evaluation of the implementation of curriculum 2005 in grade 7 in the Motherwell primary schools

Rulashe, Brenda Lavisa January 2004 (has links)
This study focuses on the effective implementation of C2005 by the Grade 7 teachers in the Motherwell area. For teachers to meet the demands of the new curriculum, in-service training is needed to develop them to be competent in all the aspects required for the use of the OBE approach. The main research question is: How have Grade 7 teachers in Motherwell implemented C2005 in their classrooms? Questionnaires and interviews were used as tools to collect the data. The data was collected from five selected primary schools in the Motherwell area. The teachers’ responses obtained from questionnaires and interviews were analyzed both statistically (using tables) and descriptively (telling teachers’ stories). Responses determined the competence of teachers in four areas, namely, teaching methods, content, classroom organization and assessment of learners. An account of inservice training courses attended by teachers is provided. These courses revealed the problems encountered by teachers during the implementation process and the subsequent assisstance they received. The data provided in this study is in line with the research done by the Review Committee (Chisholm, 2000) in the Eastern Cape. Recommendations of the Review Committee gave rise to the establishment of the Revised National Curriculum Statement (RNCS). The responses from this study confirmed the need for retraining of teachers to develop their competences. This study urges the Department of Education to focus on establishing methods of training that will develop teachers in their teaching experience. The SMTs should also be able to assist teachers with the problems they encounter in their schools. Teachers should be able to take responsibility for their learners’ competence and take ownership of changes in their schools. The financial assistance of the National Research Foundation towards this research is hereby acknowledged. Opinions expressed in this thesis and conclusions arrived at, are those of the author and not necessarily to be attributed to the National Research Foundation

An evaluation of the problems of equivalence and non-equivalence in the Intermediate Phase (IP) IsiXhosa home language workbooks of the Department of Basic Education

Styoshwana, Ntombenani January 2017 (has links)
Language plays an important part in our lives and the effects of language are remarkable and include much of what people believe. This study is about language and seeks to evaluate the extent of the problems of equivalence and non-equivalence in the texts translated from English into IsiXhosa by identifying those problems in the translated text. Translators strive to carry the meaning across from one language to another, as much as they can. Sometimes a translation shows non-equivalence and therefore the meaning gets lost. There are a number of reasons why this occurs. This study will examine some of them and propose solutions to address them.
