Community college faculty experiences with learner outcomes and the influence on professional practiceDavis, Marilyn Ellen 22 July 2002 (has links)
The study was designed to determine how learner outcomes, one
aspect of a comprehensive assessment plan at an urban community college
in the Northwest, may have influenced professional practice. Research
subjects were selected from a group of forty-four faculty who participated in
a college sponsored professional development activity. The purpose of this
activity was to provide resources for faculty to develop curriculum from a
learner outcomes perspective. The researcher was interested in how the
adoption of learner outcomes may have influenced pedagogical methods,
instructional content, classroom assessment, or other aspects of
professional practice.
Research participants responded to open-ended interview questions
administered by the researcher. The shared phenomenon being
investigated was the experience of community college faculty who were
directly involved with transforming instructional objectives to learner
outcomes and/or assisting other faculty with the conversion. Data were
analyzed following a five-step process based on phenomenological
research methods. Five themes were evident in the data: 1) importance of
the process (writing outcomes and designing curriculum); 2) changes in
classroom instruction; 3) classroom assessment modifications; 4) the
integrative nature of the experience; and 5) changes in the classroom
experience for students. The data indicated that participants shared two
common experiences--writing outcomes and changing the syllabi as a
result of incorporating learner outcomes.
The findings indicated that learner outcomes influenced professional
practice. However, the degree of influence was not at the same level of
intensity for all participants and the degree of influence was not related to
the number of years a participant had been teaching. Experienced faculty
with twenty or more years of experience were distributed among three
subgroups which denoted the degree of influence on professional practice
or the amount of change evident from lower to higher levels of intensity. / Graduation date: 2003

The effectiveness of dual branding in the agricultural sector / by Hendrik Lodewyk van StadenVan Staden, Hendrik Lodewyk January 2008 (has links)
The study deals with the concept of competing in the market with a dual branding strategy against mono-brands. The research, more specifically, examines the market awareness of the brand regarding the company versus the product. Monsanto SA, as a company, deals in the market as DEKALB. The study is based on the principles of the Burrows model of corporate identity. A tailor-made questionnaire was used as the measuring instrument. A total of 281 respondents completed the questionnaires. Data analysis was done by means of descriptive statistics and a Varimax rotated factor analysis. The reliability of the data was verified by determining the Cronbach's alpha coefficient. In this investigation, for the brand DEKALB, only one factor contributes to the brand image identified as dynamism. For Monsanto SA, two factors contribute to the organisation image. These factors are identified as dynamism and visual identity. The research concludes that although brand identities are similar to a large extent, the market views Monsanto SA more defined. A second factor is identified in addition to the common factor in both identities. The final and most important conclusion is that dual branding in the marketing strategy influences corporate identity and image, and vice versa. Monsanto SA should, therefore, take care not to confuse the market. Currently, agreement exists between the two identities, but it could easily result in confusion. Marketing strategies of Monsanto SA and DEKALB should purposefully dovetail to ensure that market confusion does not set in. / Thesis (M.B.A.)--North-West University, Vaal Triangle Campus, 2009.

Effectiveness of Eco-label? : A Study of Swedish University Students' Choice on Ecological FoodDu, Qian, Nguyen, Lien Quynh January 2010 (has links)
ABSTRACT The recent years mark the appearance of many Eco-label schemes in the attempt ofhelping consumer to recognize the products with less harm to the environment, forexample: Euro flower, Nordic swan, Blue Angle, Krav. These labels belong to the thirdparties, which get supports from government with object of achieving sustainabledevelopment. However there is still lacking a clear understanding about theeffectiveness of Eco-label in consumer consumption activities due to the lack ofresearch working on that field. We take this challenge as an opportunity to do the studyof investigating about the role of Eco-label in the process of leading consumers topurchase Eco-products. The research focuses on Swedish university students‘ choice onecological food. A number of Swedish students in Umeå University, Umeå, Sweden are selected as thegroup of respondents for this study. In order to understand the effectiveness of Eco-labelin students‘ food products choice, four key factors are taken into account to invest igate:students‘ awareness on Eco-label, students‘ knowledge on Eco-label & ecological food, students‘ environment motivation, and the availability of ecological food & Eco-labelinformation. The demographic characters including gender and education backgroundsare known as the influence factors among these four factors. The results proved the effectiveness of Eco-label as the guiding instrument for students‘product choice towards ecological food. It provided the evidence that three of these fourfactors above (accept the only one external factors: availability) can encourage students‘attention to Eco-label. In additional, student‘s attention to Eco-label can actually leadtheir purchase behavior on ecological food. With findings and recommendations, thestudy is expected to contribute to the field of ecological consumer behavior marketingresearch. However, the representative of the results is risky because of the limitedcontext and sample of the study.
