Syftet med vår uppsats är att undersöka och jämföra de två TV-programmen Veckans Brott och Efterlyst utifrån semiotiska samt medieanalytiska teorier. Metoden vi använder oss av för att analysera är den klassiska retorikanalysen då vi tittar på begreppen Ethos, Pathos och Logos som handlar om hur TV-programmen når ut till tittaren och påverkar denne. Vi tittar på de press- och yrkesetiska reglerna som finns för journalister för att se om TV-programmen förhåller sig till dem. Vi väljer att titta på hur kriminalitet framställs och hur de olika teorierna går att hitta i de båda programmen. Vi avgränsar oss till två svenska TV-program och tittar på tre avsnitt av vartdera av programmen. Därefter följer bakgrundsfakta om TV-programmen och kanalerna de sänds på, samt deras utländska föregångare. Vi redogör också för en antologi som handlar om brott i media samt tre uppsatser med liknande ämnesområden som vår uppsats behandlar. Dessa tre uppsatser skiljer sig dock från vår i perspektiv och teori. Vidare redogör vi för olika teorier vi kommer att använda oss av samt nyckelbegrepp vi kommer att utgå ifrån. I vår programstudie som finns bifogad som bilaga skriver vi sammanfattningar av avsnitten vi sett, dessa är skrivna utifrån våra teorier inom semiotik samt retorik. Efter det följer analysdelen där vi besvarar våra olika frågeställningar med hjälp av det vi fått fram av sammanfattningarna. I vår slutdiskussion beskriver vi bland annat vilka alternativa metoder vi kunde ha använt samt andra perspektiv som också hade passat inom vårt ämnesområde.

<p><p>The purpose of this study is to compare the representation of criminals in the Swedish television show “Efterlyst” regarding ethnical background between the year 1998 and the year 2006. The aim is to determine if and how the representation of ethnicity have changed over the examined years. We have then examined 13 shows from each year and categorized the criminals by ethnicity, type of crime and length of each segment. We have come to a conclusion that the show has a noticeable overrepresentation of criminals with non-Swedish ethnical background. We have also concluded that the show delivers better and more precise descriptions of the criminals in the episodes from 2006 compared to those from 1998, making it easier to determine the suspects’ ethnicity. We believe that ”Efterlyst”, together with other media, contributes to how we, in Sweden, look upon criminality and criminals in terms of ethnical background. With that said we believe the show, as well as other media, has a responsibility not to over represent any ethnical group.</p></p>

Efterlyst är brottsbekämpning på bästa sändningstid, ett program där nyheter och fiktion vävs samman och resulterar i underhållnings-TV. Syftet med uppsatsen är att titta på hur man i tv programmet Efterlyst förhåller sig till de brott programmet tar upp och hur de människor som kopplas ihop med brotten framställs. Vi gör en ansats att genom en diskursanalytisk metod finna det väsentliga i hur människor framställs i Efterlyst. Vi är särskilt intresserade av att titta på hur brottslingar och offer med icke-svensk bakgrund framställs i programmet samt om det kan påvisas någon skillnad mellan hur dessa presenteras jämfört med de personer som har svensk bakgrund. / A study of the popular Swedish TV-show "Efterlyst".
